I-Witness: The Last General By Kara David

When I watched the video of General Simeon Ola I was amazed and thought how Filipino is
resourceful when it comes to fighting. Especially during the time of the Spanish and American
war in the Philippines. Meanwhile, watching the video of the documentary I felt like I also had a
virtual trip with them to Malimbot Cave, one of the hiding places of General Ola and with other
guerillas. When I observed the cave, it was not allowed for the public. It is perilous and dark
because of the depth of the water inside the cave.

As we can see in the video the cave had a small entrance going inside but once when you're
inside it has a big chamber. For General Ola and other troops this cave was the safest hiding
place for them. I’m just thinking how this person, General Ola, escaped fighting the Americans
during that time and Ola has also the longest time in fighting, during the time of the American
war. For me, if I stay inside the cave for as long as they did Hen Ola, I won't be able to think
about where I am and how I can get out of the cave where many opponents are chasing Ola
outside but even so they don't give up. Ola still continued his fight in the day and hid in the night
inside the cave. I don't believe that General Ola used an amulet during that time, instead he used
his brain to be intelligent, and courage in fighting his enemies.

In addition to that, As a youth it was my first time knowing the history of General Ola and it is a
good reminder to me that the journeyed that our General Ola had before it wasn’t ordinary but it
is extraordinary in fighting the Americans almost three years sacrificed his life in a risky way of
fighting and wanted to the American but this General still fighting until he voluntarily
surrendered to the American in 1903. After exploring inside the cave, I enjoyed listening to the
history, the life of General Ola and sacrifices for the country. I’ve learned in life of General Ola
that we should have courage and be wise when it comes to fighting all our circumstances in life.
We have to overcome it and still fight until we succeed.
