REFLECTIVE WRITING

First of all, I would like to express my profound gratitude towards my tutors for not
only teaching but also making us understand the in-depth concept. When I first heard the
briefing lecture during our first week I could not understand a bit and it was completely new
for me as the teaching system was much more different from what it was in bachelor’s
degree. Mahara, weekly diaries, mind maps, literature reviews everything was completely
new for me and I was scared that how could I learn all this but once I have reached out to
personal tutors they have not only explained me everything but also made sure that I had
understood everything and helped me set up my Mahara portfolio. In the first week, we are
provided with guidance on how to access our moodle and teams, how to make mind maps
and we had lectures on the literature review. As I could not access the teams at first I had to
go back and revise all the lectures and meetings that have been completed during the past few
weeks and had to set up the Mahara portfolio and once I could access the module I have
uploaded the weekly notes and literature reviews.

During the second week of our moodle, we have been divided into teams and each team has
been given a business challenge. The business challenge that was given to our team was
RSPB[Royal Society For the Protection of Birds]where Jayesh Makwana, Dachapallyguna
Shekar, Oluwaseyi, Amandeep Kaur, and myself has to work as a team. We have been given
an assessment task on effective meetings and trust. Where we get to learn how we can bring
up effectiveness among the group or teams while we are working together and how we must
build trust on each other on the team members while ascertaining tasks to each other and have
complete trust and honesty within the team members which is the basis for a successful team
effort. We had expo lectures on consultancy and problem-solving. ‘Principles of Scientific
Management[1911] by Frederick Taylor[1856-1915] also known as the grandfather of
management consultancy said that scientific management is nothing but the division of
Labour into steps. By this theory, I have understood that systematic management of any
business is the division of labor into various sectors where it gives the cause of wealth for the
organization or a business. We have been given prep sessions and also asked to at least work
for four hours on the Maharaportfolio and as a team, we must communicate with each other
via teams or any other means. By the end of the week, we had an expo lecture on resilience,
diversity, and transformation-managing change. We are asked to make mind maps based on
the expo lectures and upload them to the Mahara. While we as a team asked to work on the
project plan and start developing our group’s terms of reference and Gannt Chart. we are
asked to complete this work at the end of October. As I could not access my Mahara it was
much difficult for me to cope up with the day-to-day work and I couldn't upload the files up
to the date. We have the business challenge launch event where I was given brief information
on the RSPB challenge and the problems that are being faced by the organization.

During the third week i.e week starting 11th October, we had expo lectures on systems
thinking and complexity. By this lecture, I understood that system thinking is a holistic
approach to analysis that focuses on the way that a system's constituent parts interrelate and
how systems change over time and within the context of larger systems. Complexity
characterizes the behaviour of a system with many parts where those parts interact with each
other in multiple ways, culminating in a higher order of emergency greater than the sum of its
parts. We as team members are making meetings with the team for the discussion on the
project plan and gain chart preparation. We as a team came up with the idea of how to
ascertain and assign the work among ourselves. We have been asked to make the terms of
reference where all the members of the team are participating actively and I have taken the
responsibility of making the Gannt chart, as well as the rest of the team, are asked to gather
info based on which we can further go through to RSPB project. This week we, as a team
have asked to make a site visit to the NEWPORT WETLANDS which is a bird sanctuary that
has been under the charitable organization RSPB. The site visit was the favourite part of this
project as this, is the first time that I have visited a bird sanctuary in the UK and the whole
bird sanctuary was so peaceful and I was amused by looking at the whole thing as the sound
was so relaxing for the mind and the whole atmosphere was also so quiet and wonderful for
site seeing, felt like staying there forever and had to make back to the university. We had
noted down a few points on where to start and what are the problems being faced by this
organization physically. We are given time for a prep session for the next week at the end of
this week. We were asked to upload the project plan, terms of reference, and Gannt chart into
Mahara which we are still working on as a group.

During the fourth week i.e week starting 18th October, we had an expo on co-production and
shared values. In this lecture, I have learned that production is nothing but outcome vs
outcome. When an input is given where it comes as output and then there is an outcome from
that which creates an impact that has a public value is known as product. The production
need not be in the physical form itself. As the outcomes cannot be achieved without the
proactive involvement of those receiving service. There are four c's of co-production that are
as follows co-commissioning, co-design, co-delivery, co-assessment. This week we had a
direct meeting with our tutor where we have discussed the stage at which our business
challenge is at and some proper guidance was given on how we have to proceed further in our
project. This was a face-to-face session with the tutor along with the team members where we
get to meet again physically and discuss more the project.

We Have Divided Into Different Aspects Such That Each One Of Us Participate Individually
Which Reflects The Whole Team Work.

In This Manner, We Have Allocated The Different Task For Ourselves In The Group And
The Term Of Reference And Giant Will Be Completed By The End Of This Week. As of
now, the Giant chart has been completed and the terms of reference as well have been
uploaded to the Mahara in time.

During the week starting 25th October, we had an expo on behaviour change. In this expo, I
have learned that attitudes are evaluative statements either favourable or unfavourable about
objects or people, or events. Sometimes they reflect on how we feel about something. The
attitude that people hold determines what they do. Many variables moderate the relationship
between attitudes and behaviour, attitude importance, correspondence to behaviour,
accessibility, presence of social pressures, whether a person has direct experience with the
attitude. We have collected more info on the rules and regulations on how sanctuary can be
operated. Royal Society for the Protection of Birds (RSPB) is the leading UK charitable
organization for the conservation of birds and other wildlife species. This study has shown
how this organization confronted challenges for the decrease in retail sales. Apart from that
effective solutions based on the theoretical underpinning have been developed and the
organizational risk factors have also been identified. the RSPB NEWPORT WETLANDS
follows the automated services where the customer self-service for example issues tickets and
parking and other services are provided by RSPB volunteers and they make sure customers
are comfortable and they utilize the services provided to them. these organizations are
operated for charitable purposes but for profits and day-to-day running of the business they
charge a minimal amount as tickets and parking services that they provide for their
customers. It’s more like a usage fee. The main aim of these organizations is charity along
with the protection of the environment. These organizations use the profits or the revenue
generated in any form only for a charitable purpose but not for any other uses. this
organization has a partnership with Natural Resources Whales, which is a successor body to
the countryside council for whales. These have connections with the Newport city council as
well to protect these bird sanctuaries and also protect the environment and help to sustain the
biodiversity spots. The RSPB Newport wetlands use the resources that have been given by
the countryside council for whales as well as the land resources that are given by the Newport
city council.

The main business challenges arise due to a decrease in retail sales of the products of RSPB
including foods, beverages, and books. Another challenge confronted by this organization
was the decline of the number of visitors in the NEWPORT WETLANDS sanctuary. It has
been observed that the source catering sales decreased to 159,292 from 163,856 during the
financial year 2019-2020. In addition, the number of visitors also decreased to 101.512 in FY
2020. The mission of this leading charitable organization of the UK is to develop awareness
among the people regarding the importance of the conservation of birds and other wildlife
species. Moreover, this organization is targeted at developing networks and alliances with
different organizations to meet organizational goals

RSPB is the UK's largest charitable organization committed to protecting birds and other
wildlife species. This organization is targeted at improving wildlife by 10 percent by FY
2025. The annual report of RSPB reflects that this organization has already managed 55
percent of the land for endangered birds and other wildlife animals.

It has been observed from the critical analysis of the organizational situation of RSPB that
several challenges have been faced by this leading charitable organization. In this context,
cognitive dissonance theory can be related to changing consumer behavior. Apart from that
microeconomic theory suggests that the purchasing pattern of the potential visitors in
NEWPORT WETLANDS sanctuary relied on several facts.

As highlighted earlier that during the outbreak of Covid-19 this organization faced issues due
to a reduction in sales and number of visitors. In this respect, this organization has
implemented several strategies such as connecting with the customers through social media
platforms and making effective connections with the supply chain networks. The best
effective solution would be making connections with other similar organizations so that
effective solutions can be derived. An effective relationship with the Birdlife partner would
be the best way to enhance more customer reach. There are many famous bird sanctuaries in
the United Kingdom such as The Hudson Memorial Bird Sanctuary, Festival Park Owl
Sanctuary, and WWT London Wetland Centre and collaboration of such organizations and
ensure online social media campaign and an offline campaign would be the best way in
attracting more customers and visit

Identifying overall business conditions, the business management of RSPB has implemented
decision-making processes to attract their potential customers. The Eco-friendly approaches
have been developed in the biodiversity spot of NEWPORT WETLANDS sanctuary so more
visitors can be attracted.

Generally, the implementation of strategies helps to identify risk factors. Identification of risk
factors also leads to developing business strategies. The risk factors associated with this
organization are as follows.

During the outbreak of the Covid-19 pandemic, the UK government has developed several
strict rules and regulations. In this situation, RSPB has confronted strategic risk factors.
Furthermore, the consumer's preferences were changed during that period that creating issues
in making effective business decisions by the RSPB group. Apart from that, it has also been
identified that the inadequate resources of this organization also developed strategic risk
facts.

The financial conditions of this leading charitable organization of the UK have developed
tactical risk factors. During the outbreak of the Covid-19 pandemic, RSPB experienced
several challenges due to additional costs of business operations. Moreover, the decrease in
retail sales of this organization and reduction of the number of visitors in NEWPORT
WETLANDS sanctuary created tactical risk factors. If all those risk factors are not identified
properly then rapid organizational goals cannot be achieved.

Decrease in organizational performance generated reputational risk factors. It has also been
identified that during this pandemic RSPB organization experienced unfavourable feedback
from the public and that also decreased the brand values of this organization.
The organizational success largely hinges on the flexibility and strategic planning of that
business organization. In implementing strategic decisions in the business process of RSPB,
this organization aims at focusing on all aspects. In general, the organizational success of this
organization can be observed through a comparison of profits of the present year with the
previous year. In measuring risk factors associated with the business operations of the RSPB
need to be developed and tracking of organizational growth record will be highly required.

Its critical analysis of the annual report of this organization and overall discussion of this
study has reflected that the RSPB organization faced issues regarding the organizational
process as retail sales and the number of visitors decreased during the outbreak of Covid-19.
However, several strategies have been implemented to smooth the business process of this
charitable organization and meet its aims and objectives

Analyzing socioeconomic factors RSPB organizations need to focus on several strategies so

that adverse business conditions can be mitigated. At the end of the week, we had an expo on
the tragedy of commons where we learn how in economics that occurs when individuals
neglect the well-being of the society in pursuit of personal gain. the pursuit of personal gain
leads to overconsumption and ultimately depletion of the common resources to everybody's
detriment. For the tragedy of commons to occur a resource must be scarce rivalrous in
consumption and non-excludable. This week there was a Mahara review by our tutors where I
have been given some suggestions on how I can improve better and give my best way of
presentation in the writing weekly notes and mind maps.

During the week starting 1 st November, we had the expo on business sustainability where I
learned that in any business we have five capital models in the economic concept of wealth
creation or capital. The five capitals are as follows natural capital, human capital, social
capital, manufactured capital, financial capital. We had a face to face session with our tutor in
the university, we are asked to make a have finalized the business solution to the RSPB
challenge where I have finalized my part of the work which is As mentioned earlier, sales of
this organization also decreased during the outbreak of the Covid-19 situation. This
organization implemented several strategies. Firstly, an international conservation
development program was introduced by this organization so that more visitors could be
attracted; this also ensured some positive results. However, strict rules and regulations made
by the government created hindrance and demotivated visitors. Therefore, fruitful results
could not be achieved as expected. Secondly, this organization is also targeted at launching
new products to catch its potential customers' attention. However, this cannot be an effective
choice to attract consumers because the inflow of visitors in NEWPORT WETLANDS
sanctuary was not higher. In such cases, only marketing activities can enhance the
productivity of the business operations. Only marketing activities can help to improve
community relationships. An effective community relationship can enhance the brand’s
values. New customers may come in contact with this brand.

In the post-pandemic conditions, RSPB targeted opening the store and cafe shops that were
closed down during the pandemic. However, there was uncertainty in increasing sales of their
products such as foods and beverages. Generally, the people have become more health-
conscious; therefore, the UK government's implementation of the Covid-19 protocol may
discourage them from visiting any biodiversity spots. Therefore, this initiation was not
fruitful to attract visitors and potential customers. As mentioned earlier, launching new
products without brand promotion can be preferred by the customers. Generally, this
organization does not have a good connection with the supply chain and other networks to
attract more customers. Therefore, the management team of RSPB found new way-outs to
connect their potential customers through developing networks via social media. Social
media platforms can also be treated as an important tool in making strong relationships with
clients and other charitable organizations. The best effective solution would be making a
connection with other similar organizations so that effective solutions can be derived. The
best way of developing effective relationships with the birdlife partner is to enhance more
customer reach. Apart from that, there are many famous bird sanctuaries in the united
kingdom such as the Hudson Memorial Bird Sanctuary, Festival Park Owl Sanctuary, and
WWT London Wetlands center. The awareness towards environmental conservation, such as
endangered birds and other species, can also be protected through a strong connection with
other charitable organizations that are connected in protecting the environment and
government of regional and international territories. The rationale behind choosing to adopt
social media network would be an effective advertisement of products and services of this
organization and catch the attention of the visitors who want to visit any bio-diversity spots in
the post-pandemic situation. A strong connection with the other organization will increase
awareness among the people regarding nature conservation.

The presence and visibility of this business organization can be increased by improving
community relationships. Sponsorship of events among the communities can also enhance the
engagement of the target and potential customers. In general, effective community
relationships will also help increase the sales figure of food and beverage products of this
UK's largest charitable organization for birds and other wildlife species. An effective way to
enhance community relationships is to develop effective communication relationships with
other business organizations to establish strong customer reach. Connecting with other
domestic and international charitable organizations that are associated with conserving
natural resources. And to have a better customer reach they have to set up branded stalls in
the sanctuary, where they can use the highly reputed organization names by collaborating
with them which eventually helps to increase the sales and profits of these organizations and
insure to get optimum profits. This organization has to use their resources fully such as land,
which is adequate and can be used for different purposes such as developing a children's
playground or exhibition or renting for private events so that it can gain profits from those.
Conducting eco-friendly events can help to attain maximum reach to the customers and
introducing new products on a high level of advertising can create maximum profits.

In the long-term growth of an organization strong connection with diverse communities plays
an important role. In developing products, the experience and feedback of the customers have
a great influence. Hence, co-relation with the brand's community also helps to meet the aims
and objectives of the business organizations. It has been observed that in adverse business
conditions, authentic marketing programs can only be an effective tool to increase sales of
this organization. In developing authentic marketing programs, social media platforms can
develop a strong market reach. Therefore, this organization has diversified its marketing
spend to attract more customers. Therefore, making a connection with the communities can
also help for the retention of customers and drive sustainable and organic growth.

Moreover, this organization also targeted availing more opportunities for the long term. The
broad range of connections will help to give advertisement of their sustainable approach
towards their business and present conditions of the biodiversity spots so that a good
impression among their potential customers can be created. Generally, social media platforms
will provide several advantages to this organization to promote their brand through content
development, blog posting, live steering of the cafe shops, and conditions of the biodiversity
spots they are associated with. We have finalized the business solution and also the other
things are being discussed with our group members. I had a lecture on biodiversity and
complex adaptive systems where the human enterprise is not external to nature as we
consume we produce waste. We are embedded in nature.
Natural capital is vital for -consumption of things, production of things, wellbeing.
Biodiversity is the diversity and abundance of living organisms and the ecosystem within
which they live.

Biodiversity is the key to governing ecosystems. When misused or overconsumed ecosystem

depreciates.

During the week of Nov 15th, it was an enhancement week and we are given enough time to
finalize the business report.

In the next week we had a meeting with the tutor on the business plan and terms of reference
we have submitted. At the starting of the week, I had an expo on third sector culture and
ethos where we have noticed that the third sector organizations are independent of
government, value-driven, nonprofit organizations. The segments or the characteristics
involved in the third sector. Mostly are dependent on charities to deliver many of their
activities. At the end of this week, we had an expo on the operations perspectives which is
nothing but about the resources that create the actual products or services. Operations
management is managing the resources that produce or deliver products and services. This is
what makes the inputs into the outputs. We all know that the RSPB organization is a
charitable organization that is aiming to increase its sales of food and beverages to gain some
profits which can be helpful for the running of the business. This organization is operating in
Newport wetland sanctuary which helps in the conservation of birds and the ecosystem. It is
to be noted that the RSPB organization also comes under the third sector organization which
does not work as a profitable organization. As we discussed earlier the sales have been
decreased due to the outbreak of the covid and this organization has taken some measures to
tackle the covid situation but as that could be given expected results. They have introduced
many programs such as international development programs to find a strong reach among the
customers but this has not given enough fruitful results. I was not sure on how to gather our
team members together and come to a conclusion as there was a covid and new virus called
omicron has been identified in the UK and the cases were rapidly increased in the UK and all
the team members so terrified but we have kept in touch through the social media which
helped us communicate with each other and help each other in the work assigned ourselves as
we need to submit the report on time.

During the week starting 22nd November, we had an expo on the well-being, health, and the
environment, where the human-nature connection has the physical well-being, psychological
well-being, spiritual well-being, and also social well-being. a recent investigation revealed
that being outdoor reduces stress by lowering the stress hormone cortisol. This week we had
our second meeting with our tutor where I had submitted our business report. we as a team
are asked to make a presentation based on the challenge we have been given that is on the
RSPB challenge. From the whole module, I have learned that every problem in any business,
can be managed by following some basic particular methods and ascertaining a solution to
the problem that is being faced by the business organizations. And here we are at the end of
December where we had a PowerPoint presentation with our respected tutors. As a team, we
are not prepared so the presentation was not good as we expected it to go. This is where the
team morale has gone down but after listening to the tutors and the suggestions given by
them, we got to see the mistakes we have done and we are trying to rectify those and hope we
give better results than the last time.
