3.1. Menerapkan fungsi sosial, struktur teks, dan unsur kebahasaan teks interaksi
transaksional lisan dan tulis yang melibatkan tindakan memberi dan meminta informasi
terkait hubungan sebab akibat, sesuai dengan konteks penggunaannya. (Perhatikan unsur
kebahasaan such ... that; so ... that)
4.1. Menyusun teks interaksi transaksional lisan dan tulis yang melibatkan tindakan memberi
dan meminta informasi terkait hubungan sebab akibat, dengan memperhatikan fungsi sosial,
struktur teks, dan unsur kebahasaan yang benar dan sesuai konteks
USAGE (penggunaan)
So … that .., / such … that … is used when you want to show a fact with the result or
consequence (So … that .., / such … that … digunakan ketika anda ingin menunjukkan
fakta dengan hasil atau akibat)
Examples:
1. The toothache is so painful that I can’t bear it.
It is such a painful toothache that I can’t bear it.
(= Sakit giginya terlalu menyakitkan sehingga saya tidak dapat menahannya/tidak
tahan.)
2. Ivan Gunawan is so talented that he has become a fashion designer and presenter.
Ivan Gunawan is such a talented man that he has become a fashion designer and
presenter.
(=Ivan Gunawan sangat berbakat sehingga ia menjadi perancang busana dan
pembawa acara.)
5. Wahid is so intelligent that he always gets the first rank in every test.
Wahid is such an intelligent boy that he always gets the first rank in every test.
(=Wahid adalah anak yang sangat pandai sehingga ia selalu mendapat peringkat
pertama pada setiap tes.)
RULES (kaidah/prinsip)
1. So … that …
“So” is followed by an adjective. (=’so’ diikuti kata sifat)
“that” is followed by the effect clause. (=’that’ diikuti anak kalimat akibat)
Examples:
a) Painting is so interesting that I cannot pass a day without painting.
(=Melukis itu sangat menarik sehingga saya tidak dapat melewatkan hari
tanpa melukis)
b) He is so popular that he appears almost every on television.
(=Dia sangat terkenal sehingga dia muncul hamper tiap hari di televisi)
2. Such … that …
“Such” is followed by a noun phrase (=’such’ diikuti frase benda)
(frase benda= a/an + kata sifat + kata benda)
“that” is followed by the effect clause. (=’that’ diikuti anak kalimat akibat)
Examples :
a) “Laskar Pelangi” is such an inspiring story that the novel has becomes the
best seller.
(=”Laskar Pelangi” adalah cerita yang sungguh menginpirasi sehingga
novelnya menjadi best seller)
b) Rossi is such a best rider that he almost wins in every competition.
(=Rossi sungguh pembalap terbaik sehingga ia hampir menang di setiap
kompetisi)
Exercises : Join the sentences using so… that and such … that based on the situations.
Example :
Danny was not careful to carry the plates. He dropped and broke it.
a) Danny was not so careful to carry the plates that he dropped and broke it.
b) He was not such a careful boy to carry the plates that he dropped and broke it.
