Chubby Bee Amigurumi Pattern

Approximately 18cm long when using two Paintbox Simply DK yarns together & 5mm hook
Chubby Bee is the name my son gave this giant bee. Squishy, smiley and super fun to snuggle
with. This simple pattern will delight the bee lover in your life. No stinger! Love shouldn’t hurt ;)

Materials: (2 dk yarns held together)
Paintbox Bee (Blue and Yellow):
Paintbox Yarn Simply DK in Paper White
Paintbox Yarn Simply DK in Banana Cream
Paintbox Yarn Simply DK Seafoam Blue
Or
White Yarn
Yellow Yarn
Black Yarn
Crochet Hook
2 amigurumi/safety eyes (9mm or bigger)
Polyfill
Tapestry Needle and scrap black yarn for smile
Optional blusher
Stitches: (US Crochet Terms)
MR: magic ring
sc: single crochet
sc dec: insert hook draw up loop in next two stitches (2 stitches on hook) , yarn over and draw
through both loops
Optional decrease:
Indiv dec in place of regular dec:
insert hook into the front loop of next st (do not yarn over),
insert hook into the front loop of next stitch (2 loops on hook, it will feel a bit awkward and tight)
Yarnover and pull through both loops, yarn over and pull through both loops and continue
pattern.
*when doing colour changes: work this into the stitch before the colour change.
Insert hook, draw up loop. With new colour: yarn over and draw through two loops.
Slip st in next stitch and continue pattern.
Wings (make 2):
With Paper White (or white):
R1: 6sc in MR (6)
R2: 2sc in each (12)
R3: (2sc in next stitch, sc in next) repeat (18)
R4: (2sc in next stitch, sc in next 2 stitches) repeat (24)
R5: (2sc in next stitch, sc in next 3 stitches) repeat (30)
FO, leave a long tail on one wing. Weave in other loose yarns.
*after making two, sew the circles together to look like the number “8” so the wings can be
attached later. (approximately sew 45 stitches together)
*Set aside.
Bee:
Starting with Banana Cream (or yellow):
R1: 6sc in MR (6)
R2: 2 sc in each (12)
R3: (2sc in next, sc in next) repeat (18)
R4: (2sc in next, sc in next 2 stitches) repeat (24)
R5: (2sc in next, sc in next 3 stitches) repeat (30)
R6: (2sc in next, sc in next 4 stitches) repeat (36)
R7: (2sc in next, sc in next 5 stitches) repeat (42)
R8: (2sc in next, sc in next 6 stitches) repeat (48)
R9: (2sc in next, sc in next 7 stitches) repeat (54)
R10: (2sc in next, sc in next 8 stitches) repeat (60)
Change to Seafoam Blue (or black): (6 rows)
R1116: sc around (60)
Change to Banana Cream ( or yellow): (6 rows)
R1722: sc around (60)
*now would be a good time to add the eyes between R6 & R7 and embroider a smile with yarn
between R4 & R5.
*sew wings with the long tail you left to the yellow section you just finished. Secure from the
inside of the bee body.
Change to Seafoam Blue (or black): (6 rows)
R2328: sc around (60)
Change to Banana Cream ( or yellow):
R29: (sc 2 together, sc in next 8 stitches) repeat (54)
R30: (sc 2 together, sc in next 7 stitches) repeat (48)
R31: (sc 2 together, sc in next 6 stitches) repeat (42)
R32: (sc 2 together, sc in next 5 stitches) repeat (36)
R33: (sc 2 together, sc in next 4 stitches) repeat (30) *start stuffing
R34: (sc 2 together, sc in next 3 stitches) repeat (24)
R35: (sc 2 together, sc in next 2 stitches) repeat (18)
R36: (sc 2 together, sc in next) repeat (12) *Stuff firmly
R 37 sc 2 together all around *leave a long tail, (6)
FO and weave in all ends.
You can add some blusher on the cheeks to give the bee some personality.
You could also use pink yarn to sew small blushers onto the stitches too.
