Safety Calendar and Reflection

teachers to practice with students their route and location.

o September 29th at 8:45am: This drill will be in the morning, and hallway doors

will be locked along primary and intermediate corridors, so alternate paths can be

taken.

recess to test how students react to the drill.

o November 17th at 1pm: This drill will occur when students are finishing lunch

recess and are normally lining up to return to class.

from recess, and intermediate grades are getting released for lunch.

o May 5th at 8:30am: This drill will occur in the morning after students have

finished breakfast.

 Quarterly lockdown drills:

o Quarter 1: October 6th at 9am, This will be the first lockdown drill to have

teachers practice classroom safety expectations.

o Quarter 2: November 15th at 10am, a police or SRO officer will come into campus

and call for the school to be immediately locked down.

o Quarter 3: February 4th at 2pm, the principal will lockdown the school and 10

minutes into the lockdown, pull the fire alarm.

o Quarter 4: April 1st at 10:35am, this drill will happen when the intermediate

grades are out at recess.

 One full school evacuation:

o The full school evacuation will occur on March 4th at 9:30am. The reunification

point would be the LDS church east of the school campus. There would not be

any transportation needed as the students would be able to walk to the church.

Parents would be notified via school messenger and email.

 Training for teachers:

o Initial training would occur in the first week on contract before students arrive on

campus about what to do in each scenario. A refresh meeting would occur on the
second half of the school year to ensure that new staff members have the

necessary knowledge of expectations. Reminder communications would be sent

periodically by the safety committee.

 Revisiting/Debriefing after each drill: Who will be involved? What will the process be?

How will the debriefing/adjustments/positives be shared with the staff?

o A quick staff meeting will occur after school after each drill to discuss the

implications or abnormalities that occurred. This will be done by the

administration team and safety committee and any information would be

disseminated at the next staff meeting.

 Reflection

o In the development of this calendar, there was collaboration between the safety

committee and the administration to ensure that the school remains compliant

with all safety procedures. In terms of the school mission and vision, these are

upheld as the school administration ensures that students and staff members alike

know that they are safe on campus and allow for learning to thrive in the

classroom with that knowledge. The moral and legal considerations that came into

place would be the district officials that enforce the fire marshal’s safety

requirements for LEAs. If these drills and calendars did not exist, then the school

would not be able to operate.
