Starter Unit: Hello!

Colour Bingo! (p. 2)

Aim: To consolidate colours.


The pupils choose six of the eight colours they know and colour in the circles. Call out
the names of the eight colours in random order. The pupils circle the colours they hear.
The first pupil to circle all his/her colours, says Bingo! and wins.

A World of Colours! (pp. 3-10)

Aim: To consolidate colours.


Point to the pictures on each activity page and elicit the colours. Ask the pupils to colour
in the paintbrushes accordingly. Allow them some time to colour in the pictures. The
pupils then use the space provided to draw and colour in another item that is usually the
same colour, e.g. a duck (yellow), a crocodile (green), a heart (red), ballet shoes (pink),
sea (blue), an orange (orange), lavender (purple), a spider (black).

Optional Extension Activity: Write the title: A World of Colours! on a big piece of card.
Assign a colour to each pupil or to a pair of pupils. The pupils draw and colour objects
that are usually that colour and stick them onto the card to make a collage.

How many? (p. 11)

Aim: To consolidate numbers.


The pupils count the items and colour in the correct numbers.
Optional Extension Activity: Ask a pupil to come to the board. Draw a simple sketch of
a sun. Point to it and say a number, e.g. five. The pupil draws five suns. Repeat with
different items and numbers.

Number Maze! (p. 12)

Aim: To consolidate numbers.


The pupils join the numbers 1-10 to help the alien go to the planet.

Module 1: My School
What’s in your schoolbag? (p. 14)

Aim: To consolidate school items.


The pupils look at the school items and their outlines on the schoolbag. They colour in and
cut out the school items. Then they stick them onto the corresponding outlines. Have the
pupils present their schoolbags, e.g. This is my schoolbag. Look! A red book, a blue pen, a
yellow pencil and a green rubber!

Get ready for school! (p. 15)

Aim: To consolidate school items.


The pupils colour in the things they usually take with them to school.
Optional Extension Activity: Say: I’m ready for school. This is my book. Ask a pupil to
repeat your sentence and add one more school item from the worksheet, e.g. I’m ready for
school. This is my book and this is my rubber. Repeat as many times as you feel necessary.

In Action! (pp. 16-17)

Aim: To consolidate classroom language.


The pupils cut out the pieces in each set and arrange them to make a picture. Ask the pupils
to say what classroom instruction each picture shows.

Spin the wheel! (p. 18)

Aim: To consolidate classroom language.


The pupils make a spinner by cutting out the circle and attaching the arrow. Then, in pairs,
they play the game. The pupils take turns spinning the arrow. The pupil who spins the arrow
each time, calls out the classroom instruction they land on for their partner to mime.
e.g. Pupil A: (spins the arrow and it shows, stand up) Stand up!

Module 2: Every Kind of Family!

My Family Chain (pp. 20-21)

Aim: To consolidate family members.


Show the pupils the example of a family chain (p. 20). Explain that this is a family chain.
Hand out as many photocopies of the family chain outline on p. 21 as necessary, so that
each pupil can make their own family chain. They can add (glue) or remove (cut out) family
members accordingly. As an extension, the pupils present their family, e.g. This is my
daddy, my mummy and me!
Optional Extension Activity: Put up some of the family chains the pupils have created on
the board. Ask a pupil to come to the board. Describe one of the family chains, e.g. This is
my mummy, my sister and me! Ask the pupil to point to the correct family chain. Repeat with
different pupils.

This is my family! (p. 22)

Aim: To consolidate family members.


The pupils colour in and cut out the family members. Then they play in pairs. They each
shuffle the pieces and give them to their partner. The pupil who puts the pieces together to
form the family first, wins.

Follow the happy faces! (p. 23)

Aim: To consolidate adjectives.


The pupils colour in only the happy faces to exit the maze.

My Colour Feelings! (p. 24)

Aim: To consolidate adjectives.


Elicit the adjectives (happy, angry, funny, thirsty, hungry, sad). Ask the pupils to think of a
colour they associate with each adjective and colour in the faces accordingly. The pupils
then present their drawings.
e.g. Orange for happy!
Red for angry!
Green for funny!
Yellow for thirsty!
Purple for hungry!
Blue for sad!

Robot Fun! (p. 26)

Aim: To consolidate toys.


The pupils colour in and cut out the parts of the robot. Then they glue them together to
make their robot.

The Toy Box (p. 27)

Aim: To consolidate toys.


The pupils match the toys around the toy box to the ones inside the toy box. Explain to
them that there are two extra toys in the toy box. Then the pupils use a different colour for
each pair of toys and colour them in.
Optional Extension Activity: Draw a big toy box on the board. Draw simple sketches of
three toys, e.g. teddy bear, kite and doll inside the toy box. Ask the pupils to look at them
for a minute and then close their eyes. Erase a toy. Ask the pupils to open their eyes and
say which toy is missing.

What’s wrong? (p. 28)

Aim: To consolidate things in a room.


The pupils look at the picture, find the things that are not usually found in a bedroom and
colour them in using any colour they like.

My Funny Sofa (p. 29)

Aim: To consolidate things in a room.


The pupils choose one or more of the designs and draw them on their sofa. Then they
colour them in and present their sofas to the class.
e.g. This is my (funny) sofa. It’s blue.

My Face (p. 31)

Aim: To consolidate parts of the face.


The pupils draw and colour in their face. Then they present their drawings to the class.
e.g. Look! I’ve got red hair, blue eyes, a small nose and a big mouth!

Pretty Faces! (p. 32)

Aim: To consolidate parts of the face and adjectives.


Point to the face icons and elicit the adjectives (happy, funny, angry, sad). The pupils cut
out the different parts of the face, match, and stick them onto the correct faces.

Roll a face! (p. 33)

Aim: To consolidate parts of the face.


The pupils play in pairs. The first pupil rolls the dice. On a piece of paper, he/she has to
draw the face shape that corresponds to the number on the dice. Then, the other pupil rolls
the dice and the activity continues until both pupils have completed their drawings.

My Body (pp. 34-35)

Aim: To consolidate parts of the face/body.


The pupils colour in and cut out the parts of the face/body on p. 35. Then they stick them
into the correct circles on p. 34.

The pupils cut out the fruit and vegetable halves. Then they match and stick them together.

Aim: To consolidate food and drinks.

Animal Dice (p. 43)

Aim: To consolidate animals and actions.


The pupils colour in the animals. Then they make a dice by cutting, folding and gluing the
template. Then, in pairs, the pupils play a game. They take turns rolling the dice and
saying a sentence about the animal shown on the dice, e.g. (duck) A duck can swim. Each
correct sentence gets a point. The pupil with the most points wins.

Back to Front (p. 44)

Aim: To consolidate farm animals.


The pupils colour in and cut out the picture halves. Then they put the halves together and
name the farm animals.

Farm Animals (p. 45)

Aim: To consolidate farm animals.


The pupils look at the pictures and colour in the farm animals.

Picture Dictation (p. 46)

Aim: To consolidate farm animals.


The pupils work in pairs. Pupil A says what animals there are on his/her farm for Pupil B to
draw. Then they swap roles and repeat the activity. When they are done, the pupils
present their drawings to the class.
e.g. Pupil A: This is (Mike)’s farm. Look! A cow, a horse and a duck!

Let’s go! (p. 48)

Aim: To consolidate means of transport.


The pupils complete the picture by drawing lines. Alternatively, they can cut out the
missing parts and stick them in the correct place on the picture.

Transport race (p. 49)

Aim: To consolidate means of transport.


The pupils play in pairs. They take turns rolling a dice and colouring in the corresponding
parts/numbers in the means of transport. The pupil who colours in both means of transport
first, wins.

Jobs (p. 50)

Aim: To consolidate jobs.


The pupils cut out and shuffle the pieces. Then they stick the pieces together to form the
correct pictures and colour them in. Name a job, e.g. farmer. Ask the pupils to hold up the
corresponding picture.

How do I travel? (p. 51)

Aim: To consolidate jobs and means of transport.


Revise jobs. Ask: How do they travel? Elicit answers from around the class. The pupils
look at the pictures and colour in the correct ones (i.e. postman on the bike, farmer on the
tractor, police officer in the car).

Aim: To consolidate clothes.


Explain to the pupils, in L1 if necessary, that they will go away for the weekend. What clothes
will they take? The pupils choose the items of clothing they will take with them and draw them
in the suitcase. Then they colour in the clothes.

I’m wearing … (p. 54)

Aim: To consolidate clothes.


The pupils draw lines and match the clothes to the parts of the body we wear them on.
Optional Extension Activity: Point to a part of your body, e.g. feet. Ask a pupil to name an
item we wear on our feet (shoes, sandals).

At the playground (p. 55)

Aim: To consolidate playground equipment.


Point to and elicit the playground equipment. The pupils cut out the missing parts and stick
them onto the correct place in the picture. Then they colour in the picture.

Find the differences! (p. 56)

Aim: To consolidate clothes and playground equipment.


The pupils look at the pictures and circle five differences in picture B (boy under trampoline,
woman wearing a hat, slide, boy wearing trousers, girl wearing shoes).
