IA Chemistry - Project Plan

RQ: what is effect of temperature on the oxidation rate of Iodide Ions in Iodine clock reaction.
AIM: This experiment determines the rate expression for iodine clock reaction.

Requirements of Chemicals

Three trails are required to find the order of reactants and coefficient (k at 20 deg Celsius) using
the rate law.
T= 20 deg C 3% Hydrogen 0.01M KI 2.5 M Sulfuric 0.05 M Starch Deionized
Peroxide Acid Sodium water
Thiosulphate
Trial 1 5 mL 5 mL 10 mL 10 mL 5 mL 80 mL
Trail 2 5 mL 10 ML 10 mL 10 mL 5 mL 75 mL
Trail 3 10 mL 5 mL 10 mL 10 mL 5 mL 75 mL

Four more trials at 5, 35, 50, and 65 degree Celsius are required to calculate different rate
coefficient values using Arrhenius equation.
Temperature 3% 0.01M KI 2.5 M 0.05 M Starch Deionize
degree C Hydrogen Sulfuric Sodium d water
Peroxide Acid Thiosulphate
Trial 4 0 5 mL 5 mL 10 mL 10 mL 5 mL 80 mL
Trail 5 35 5 mL 5 ML 10 mL 10 mL 5 mL 80 mL
Trail 6 50 5 mL 5 mL 10 mL 10 mL 5 mL 80 mL
Trail 7 65 5 mL 5 mL 10 mL 10 mL 5 mL 80 mL

Three more trails for ignoring the erroneous observations:

Temperature 3% 0.01M KI 2.5 M 0.05 M Starch Deionize
degree C Hydrogen Sulfuric Sodium d water
Peroxide Acid Thiosulphate
Trial 8 0 5 mL 5 mL 10 mL 10 mL 5 mL 80 mL
Trail 9 35 5 mL 5 ML 10 mL 10 mL 5 mL 80 mL
Trail 10 50 5 mL 5 mL 10 mL 10 mL 5 mL 80 mL

In total, the chemicals required are

3% Hydrogen 0.01M KI 2.5 M Sulfuric 0.05 M Starch Deionized
Peroxide Acid Sodium water
Thiosulphate
Total 55 mL 55 mL 100 mL 100 mL 50 mL 800 mL

I have researched about the iodine clock reaction and found that peroxide efficiently dissociates in the
presence of concentrated acid. If instead of 2.5M of sulfuric acid, I have to use 1M sulfuric acid then I
will increase its amount by 2.5 times in my experiment decreasing the amount of Deionized water.
So my updated requirements of chemicals are as follows:

In total, the chemicals required are

3% Hydrogen 0.01M KI 1 M Sulfuric 0.05 M Starch Deionized
Peroxide Acid Sodium water
Thiosulphate
Total 55 mL 55 mL 250 mL 100 mL 50 mL 650 mL

Result:
From Trial1 to Trial2 as we double the concentration of KI, the rate doubled and time taken halved.
From Trial2 to Trial3 as we halved the concentration of H2O2, the rate halved and time taken doubled.
