WRITING TASK (50 points)

Write a clearly organised and well-supported 350/ 400-word argumentative essay. You
have to manipulate words in grammatically correct sentences and in linking those
sentences, form a piece of continuous writing to successfully communicate your
thoughts and ideas on the suggested topic. You will have to include the following
grammatical structures or aspects:

● Passive Voice - Impersonal expressions

● Appropriate verb tenses

● Parallel structures

● Conditional sentences

● Variety of connectors, subordinators and conjunctions

● Vocabulary related to technology, media, educational resources,

communication, and work

● Formal register

● Avoidance of sentence fragments, misplaced modifiers and dangling

modifiers

● Appropriate structures to express opinion, opposing ideas, and advantages

and disadvantages
-The overall effect on the reader (positive or negative) is also considered.

-You must write a catchy title and state the type of essay you are going to write.

Choose one of the suggested topics to write your composition:

§ Discuss the advantages and disadvantages of using social media in education.

§ It is a good idea for some teenagers to have jobs while they are still students.
Do you agree or disagree? Justify your opinion by giving details, reasons and/
or examples.

Outstanding in Life

Is working while studying a great way to be successful in life? First of all, it is

important to highlight that some teenagers have different life goals. Currently, most students
feel that they have a variety of job opportunities as well as educational opportunities, which
help them to succeed at their aims. Working while studying also makes learners feel proud of
themselves because of doing both things at the same moment. For some of them, working and
studying at the same time implies a lot of benefits to bear in mind.

To begin with, some learners have the opportunity to take advantage of multiple
reasons to be successful in life, such as saving money as well as getting work experience. In
addition, many students have the possibility of living with their families, which is a great help
for them if they want to reduce expenses. What is more, most learners gain their professional
experience in order to achieve their objectives they may have. All in all, working while
studying is the best chance for those pupils who want to make economical and working
progress.

Secondly, some students realize that they want to achieve their personal autonomy.
That is possible when they can improve their self-determination thinking about their future;
in other words, most learners need to find their solutions to problems on their own. Moreover,
most students notice that they can do both, work and study at the same time, and that is
grateful for them because that is the moment when they start to make progress. In short,
working while studying helps some learners to gain independence.

To conclude, as most learners have different objectives to reach, working and

studying at the same time allows them to actually progress as well as to improve and achieve
their aims in life. I am confident that working is the key point for those pupils to save money,
gain work experience and become independent while studying. That mainly happens because
doing both gives most students a great sense of achievement in their lives.
