Chapter 1
THE PROBLEM AND BACKGROUND

Introduction
The Internet was created on January 1, 1983 for the military then scientists used it
as a way of communicating. After the Internet was invented, Tim Berners-Lee created the
World Wide Web in 1989 which is a network of computers that are connected and share
information that allow communication around the world. Now in the current time, the
Internet is used as a way that allows people across the world to communicate and share
information. Many people use the Internet as a primary source of information,
entertainment, and a great way of communication. For students, the Internet is very
important because it provides the necessary knowledge and helps communicate with their
teachers and fellow students. Although the Internet helps students in their studies by
giving information, there are possible drawbacks because the internet also causes
distractions to the students and might affect their performance. Which is why we
conducted this research to determine how students can use the internet to their advantage
and what are the possible disadvantages of using the Internet.
