CLC Activity Sheet

The 2021 Impact Challenge


It is time to put the CLC terms and concepts into action and make a difference in your community! For
this activity, the team will become the case study for all of the CLC Content. The team will coordinate
this activity, and coaches can communicate with their team throughout the process. One of the highlights
of this activity is that each team has maximum control over the type of impact or difference they would
like to make. Are you ready?

Tip: Winning teams will read the entire direction sheet, the reflection sheet, and the scoring rubric. They
will then ensure everyone fully understands the challenge before beginning, outlining the problem and
listing multiple strategies for each objective. Good luck!

How to Win/Overall Objective


1. Goal - The goal of this challenge is to make an impact in your community by choosing an on-campus or
community organization aligned with one of the three CLC values: (a) diversity, equity, & inclusion; (b)
sustainability; or (c) health & wellness. This challenge will feature two leaders - each chosen by a coin flip
among the four who have not yet led an activity. One leader will coordinate a digital campaign, and another
will head the organization of a virtual event. The scoring and submission criteria for this challenge are in
this document. When the two team leaders believe that the team has accomplished the challenge, they
complete the attached scoring rubric. The scoring rubric is submitted to the team’s coach for review, and
once the coach approves the document, they forward it to CLC (info@collegiateleader.org). We will log the
time and check for completion. The team can choose its leader for each component, but they must not have
led the knowledge or spot challenges. Your three weeks begin now.

2. Cannots - Competitors cannot use an existing Facebook page as the official project page; use
money/prizes/gifts to promote or influence people to participate in either campaign.

3. Scoring - The amount of points a team receives depends on their process (reflection analysis worksheet)
and results (objectives achieved).

EST on 3/29/2021 - 100 points for completion
● Results - 500 points are available based on the five objectives described in this document

Objective One: Objective Setting and Social Media Presence (100 points)
Deadline for completion: Friday, March 12, 2021, at 11:59 pm EST
To track your progress, we need to have clear visibility and insight into each team’s project. This objective will
determine what the team will be working to achieve and lay the foundation for your social media presence, which
will ensure transparency and accountability for each team.

1. Determine the impact recipient: Choose a campus or community organization to assist.


2. Determine the values: Which of the three CLC core values does the chosen organization align with? How
so?
3. One measurable outcome: Outline one specific way the team will assist the organization. Are you helping
them build awareness, increase membership, fuel participation? Why?
a. Tip: Ask the organization to outline their needs.
4. Build a relationship: Contact the organization, set up at least one meeting, and secure its support.

5. Build social media presence: Create a new Facebook page (an existing page cannot be used--see the
“Cannots” section above) and name your IMPACT project. Connect with CLC on Facebook so we can
track your progress (@collegiateleadershipcompetition).
6. Share progress: Create four posts communicating that the first four tasks listed above have been
accomplished. You may use text format, images, and/or links to communicate these messages. For instance,
to share that you’ve built a relationship with the organization, you might screenshot a picture of a Zoom
meeting that took place and tag the organization. Each completed post is worth 25 points. Remember to
elaborate as you create the posts. For example, rather than simply stating the CLC value the organization
you’ve chosen aligns with, share why this partnership is important to your team.

Objective Two: Further Introduce your Team and the Community Partner (50 points)
Deadline for completion: Friday, March 19, 2021, at 11:59 pm EST
1. Introduce each member of your team: Use a photo, video, or text post to introduce each team member.
Ensure that each post captures why this person is interested in growing their leadership skill sets, why they
are passionate about your team’s project, and one strength they bring to the team. Each team may include
additional information if it would like to.
a. Completion of this task is worth 30 points.
2. Further introduce the campus or community organization: Use a photo, video, or text post to do so
(e.g., mission, vision, values, interesting facts, founding date, results in the community). The post must
capture: (a) founding date; (b) the organization’s mission; (c) one interesting fact about the organization;
and (d) how the team got in touch with the organization. Be creative and ensure you share new information
about the organization on your team’s Facebook page.
a. Completion of this task is worth 20 points.

Objective Three: Conceptualize and Explain your Virtual Event (50 points)
Deadline for completion: Friday, March 19, 2021, at 11:59 pm EST
1. Conceptualize your virtual event: The virtual event is intended to help you reach the one measurable
outcome the team described in “Objective One.” Clearly answer the following questions as a team:
a. What day will the event take place?
b. How long will the event be?
c. Which online platform will the event be hosted on?
d. Who is the emcee? Who else is speaking?
e. What is the agenda of the event?
f. How will you ensure the desired number of participants?
g. How will the event help you reach the measurable outcome you’ve outlined for the project?
i. Example: Your team has decided to partner with a student organization that focuses on 30
minutes of daily recreation to promote health and wellness among the student population.
The chosen measurable outcome you have for your project is to increase campus
awareness and membership by at least 50 students for the organization. Your event is
hosted on Zoom for 60 minutes and is hosted by the team. Speakers include the student
organization president and a local physician that speaks to the importance of daily
exercise. An added benefit of the session that may help with event attendance is a 30-
minute virtual yoga class. The yoga class reinforces the student organization's mission
and helps attendees get their daily workout in for the day!
2. Plan and share details about the virtual event: Now that you’ve brainstormed your event, meet with the
organization you are partnering with and begin planning all details mentioned above and any others you’d
like to include. Post the information on the event on your Facebook page by March 19, 2021, at 11:59 pm
EST.
a. Tip: Facebook likely should not be your only avenue to market the event. Where else can you
share the event to ensure participation?
b. Completion of this task is worth 50 points.

Objective Four: Host a Virtual Event (150 points)
Deadline for completion: Friday, March 26, 2021, at 11:59 pm EST
1. Host the Virtual Event: It is time to see your work in action! Host the virtual event and receive a total of
150 points for each of the following criteria:
a. Subject Matter Expert (50 points). Ensure that at least one subject matter expert is a speaker
during the virtual event. This would be the physician described in the example above.
b. Campus/Community Organization Representative (50 points). Ensure that at least one
representative from the organization is a speaker during the virtual event.
c. 200 Attendees (50 points). Ensure that at least 200 attendees are part of the session. We know
that the number of attendees can fluctuate throughout the event so use the highest number of
viewers at any given point. Screenshot that number so that you can use it to post on your Facebook
page later.
i. This is an all-or-nothing score meaning that if you do not reach 200 attendees, zero
points will be earned for this part of the challenge.
d. Note to coaches: At least one of the team’s coaches needs to be an attendee during the event. If
the coach is not present for the event, zero points can be earned by the team for this objective.
2. Share it: Communicate the success of the event by creating an individual post about (a) the subject matter
expert, (b) the organization’s representative, and (c) the number of attendees at the event. The easiest way
to do this is to create thank-you posts once the event has concluded. The post related to the number of
attendees needs to include a screenshot displaying the number of people viewing the event at a particular
time.

Objective Five: Impressions Goal (50 points)


Deadline for completion: Sunday, March 28, 2021, at 11:59 pm EST
1. Reach 500 page likes: During the course of this challenge, your team will focus on growing awareness
about the project. Your goal is to accrue 500 page likes. When you complete the performance evaluation
scoring rubric, you will need to provide a total number of page likes. This is an all-or-nothing score
meaning that if you do not reach 500 page likes, zero points will be earned for this part of the challenge.
a. Tip: Begin this step early and aim for more than 500 likes to ensure you can secure these points!

Objective Six: Performance Evaluation Scoring Rubric (100 points)


Deadline for completion: Sunday, March 28, 2021, at 11:59 pm EST
1. Evaluate your team’s performance: At least one team member needs to complete the scoring rubric for your
team. The rubric is included below.
2. Send the rubric to your coach: Once you’ve completed the rubric, send it to your coach. Once the coach
signs off on what has been stated, they will submit the rubric (info@collegiateleader.org) to CLC for a final
evaluation no later than Monday, March 29, 2021, at 11:59 p.m. EST.

Rules/Penalties:

1. All scored social media posts are simply proof of your work and ensure transparency.
2. Remember that these posts are time-stamped, so be sure to keep track of deadlines! Posts will be scored
based on completion only.
3. If you do not post, we have no way of tracking your results, and you will receive zero points for any post
that has been missed or submitted past the deadline.
4. Teams are welcome to post to their pages outside of the required posts. Additional posts may help you
generate momentum for the virtual event.
5. Deadlines are simply the end date for completion. This does not necessarily mean that the team should not
begin working on certain aspects of the Impact Challenge in advance. For instance, although Objective
Three is not due until March 19, you may not have the necessary number of visitors in attendance if you do
not begin brainstorming about this part of the project until the middle of March. SOLVE effectively in the

beginning as it will help you save time, avoid STRESSORS and CONFLICT, and ultimately complete the
challenge with excellence.
6. A team’s effort is not considered complete and cannot be evaluated by CLC until the team’s rubrics are
submitted (info@collegiateleader.org) to CLC by the team’s coach. Unless there is a significant challenge
preventing the team’s coach from submitting the final rubric to CLC by 11:59 p.m. EST on Monday, March
29, 2021. Late rubrics will result in an overall score of 0 for the Impact Challenge.
7. If the team reflection sheet is not received by 11:59 p.m. on Monday, March 29, 2021, this will result in an
overall score of 0 for the process part of the score.
8. Teams that engage in any “cannot” behaviors will receive 0 points for the Impact Challenge.
9. CLC will check the submissions and has the right to dispute any score received on any of the performance
evaluations received. We will make the final determination on all scores.
