Conventional tools used to day for those tasks

• Computerized paper F.PLN (CFP) for FMS initialization

• In flight update of CFP for mission follow up using FMS, or

if FMS failed, using backup data (e.g Back Up MCDU…)

• Dedicated engineering data record forms (engines, ADC..),

Tec Log Book (TLB)…

Sequence of waypoints with associated predictions
Overall mission fuel predictions
Asumptions used for predictions computation: GW, Cg, CI, Perf
Factor, Cruise Wind/Temperature …

• FMS predictions validation by comparison with CFP, if FMS

properly initialized: reasonableness check

FMS Inflight Print

• Once A/C has reached initial CRZ FL, and pilot has updated
the F.PLN / Winds / Steps … on MCDU, the Inflight Print
provides

All predictions at each downpath waypoint of the F.PLN

History values of the parameters recorded at each waypoint of

the F.PLN already sequenced

(Spd / Alt / FOB …) and all fuel information (RSV, XTRA …)

Inflight Print is available from Take Off till Engine shutdown

FMS Postflight Print

• At the end of the flight, once engines are shut down, FMS
Postflight Print provides:

History of the flight: actual data recorded at each sequenced

waypoint of the FPLN (speed, altitude, FOB, time, wind…)

Mission Fuel and Time Summary

IRSs average drift and residual GS

AIDS – ACMS Report Prints

• AIDS/ACMS generate preprogrammed or pilot programmed

reports of A/C system data acquired by the FDIMU
• All types of system data are acquired in the FDIMU such as
Engineparameters
ADC data…
• If a report is not programmed, the pilot can program it on the
MCDU; e.g this typical engine report programmed by the pilot:

• The report can be named and stored

CFDS-CMS Maintenance report print
ATSU/AOC OOOI report print

• At the end of the flight, once engines are shutdown,

following report prints can be generated:

The Post Flight Maintenance, or Last Leg ECAM report from

CMS (A330 – 340 ) or CFDS ( A320s )

The OOOI (Out - Off - On - In, times) report from ATSU/AOC

Use of those prints by aircrew:

• FMS Preflight print:

Once FMS has been initialized using CFP data amongst others,
a comparison between CFP and FMS preflight print allows to
validate the FMS predictions

All last minutes changes (T/O Rwy, SID, GW …) allow to refresh

preflight print to be included in the “after flight mission pack”

Use of those prints by aircrew

• FMS Inflight print:

Once the A/C is established in cruise and FMS is updated

with latest clearance, winds/temp … the Inflight print:

– Provides all the FMS predictions on one clean/neat sheet of

paper accessible in a single glance; if FMS subsequently fails,
those predictions may be used most benefitably
– The FMS Inflight print is the mission follow up document used
by the crew

– CFP update, which merely consists in pilot copying FMS

predictions on CFP, is superfluous and useless. Once airborne,
crew should stow CFP in “after flight mission pack”

Use of those prints by aircrew

• AIDS – ACMS prints report

AIDS – ACMS reports provide most in flight recordable data

which might be required by flight ops engineering

Even if preprogrammed reports are not available, those

reports may be easily programmed by the pilot

Hence no need for the crew to copy numerous data on

endless report forms, in various weather conditions…

Use of the prints by flight ops engineering

Amongst other tasks, such a set of print allows:

• A rapid and easy follow up of each mission using

the FMS Postflight and the OOOI prints

• A rapid and easy follow up of the performance of certain A/C

systems (typically engines, ADC for RVSM, IRSs for
ETOPS …) using FMS Postflight and AIDS-ACMS prints

• A rapid and easy assessment of the A/C Perf Factor by a

Conclusions

The proper use of the prints during a flight:

Facilitates and rationalizes various crew tasks in flight

Prevents crews from filling up endless forms in flight

Prevents crews from useless CFP updates during flight

Allows to get an efficient and neat “after flight mission pack”
