Leadership Practices

There are 3 types of Leaders Servant, Authentic, and Interactive leadership.

Interactive leader are leaders who have values of inclusion, collaboration, relationship

building, and caring. Authentic leaders have a higher level of ethical values, they

empower and inspire others, and they know and understand who they are. Servant leaders

are leaders who lead by serving the needs and goals of others, and the mission of the

organization (Text Book). The VP of Miscellaneous Departments has characteristics of

an interactive and authentic leader.

Ethical Responsibility is one of the roles that any leader within the organization

must uphold. As a VP in the healthcare it’s important that not only does the leader have

an ethical responsibility to the Organizations employees, but more importantly they must

uphold a high standard of ethical responsibility to the patients. In 2003 the US

Department of Health and Human Services created the Health Insurance Portability and

Accountability Act (HIPPA). According to US Department of Health and Human

Services “A major goal of the Privacy Rule is to assure that individuals’ health

information is properly protected while allowing the flow of health information needed to

provide and promote high quality health care and to protect the public's health and well

being. The Rule strikes a balance that permits important uses of information, while

protecting the privacy of people who seek care and healing. Given that the health care

marketplace is diverse, the Rule is designed to be flexible and comprehensive to cover

the variety of uses and disclosures that need to be addressed” (HHS.gov). The VP must

make sure that all the employees are upholding to ethical standards set by the Reid.

Working with the health care it’s important that all employees protect all patients’ health

information.

Financial Responsibility is a primary function in all Leadership roles. Reid is

currently going through a collaboration with another hospital. CHNw will be providing

Electronic Medical Records hosting solutions to Reid. Even though the Vice President of

Miscellaneous Departments doesn’t dealt with the overall finical state of the hospital like

the CFO they still have to manage and have financial control of their departments. In this

project the VP had to work closely with project. The VP needs to understand the financial

analysis and be able to interpreting the numbers. This allows them to be able to helping

coming up with departmental budgets. They must provide reports on development

project, resource utilization, and production performance to the CEO and CFO.

Quality and performance are also important roles for the VP of ancillary

departments. There are different departments that report this VP. Some of the

departments have direct contact with patients other departments have an indirect patient

contact. Each department director must report quality and performance standards to the

VP. This responsibility allows the VP to make sure that all departments are keeping up

with the Reid CARE principles and VOICE standards.

Organization Structure

A leader’s values and beliefs shape the culture of an organization.  In section A1, you briefly described
the culture of the organization.  In this section, you will want to further describe the culture of the
organization.  When trying to describe the culture, think about the following:

·        How important is the vision and mission of the organization in the day-to-day operations?

·        How is the staff managed?

·        How are decisions made and problems solved?  Is the process collaborative or more individually
driven?

·        Is the organization hierarchical or flat?  Are job titles important?

·        Is there internal language used and understood only be the employees?

·        When it comes to performance, what is most valued?

·        How would you describe the work/life balance and mood of the organization?

·        What are the common stories told and what is the meaning behind the stories?

·        Why do employees stay at the organization?

Once you have described the culture of the organization, discuss how the current leadership has directly
affected the organizational culture.  You may also speak to the role past founders or leaders had on
shaping the culture.

The big deal is that you create a direct relationship between the leader's values, beliefs, and the culture of
the organization.  Provide examples to support your analysis.
