Teacher Leadership Goals

1. I will develop my leadership in Academic Freedom


GOAL: Provide students the skills necessary to identify, interpret and argue
differing perspectives on political and social issues and ideas respectfully.
RATIONALE: This will help students develop their skills to communicate ideas,
provide evidence and rationale while respecting differing perspectives. Teaching
Kids to Argue—Respectfully
NBPTS: Proposition 1: Teachers are committed to their students and their
learning
TLMD: Domain 1: Fosters a Collaborative Culture to Support Educator
Development and Student Learning
OBJECTIVE: Develop a tool for students to refer to as they develop their ability to
conduct research and present their ideas in their argumentative writing and
debating their views. (Short term)
Create content spanning curriculum that other colleagues can use to assist
students in developing these skills across differing subjects.
Teacher Inquiry: I will develop my ability to apply varied assessments for students
in how I assist them in presenting their differing perspectives.

2. I will develop my leadership in Media Literacy


GOAL: Provide students the skills necessary to understand information and how
bias and obfuscation can be used to obscure the facts.
RATIONALE: This will help students develop the necessary skill to avoid falling for
the messaging of media that is used to present confirmation bias on viewpoints
based around differing political and social issues. History Content Standards
12.8.3. Explain how public officials use the media to communicate with the
citizenry and to shape public opinion.

Assess the extent to which the reasoning and evidence in a text support the
author's claims.
NBPTS: Proposition 3: Teachers are responsible for managing and monitoring
student learning.
TLMD: Domain 4: Facilitates Improvements in Instruction and Student Learning
OBJECTIVE: Create a school wide framework to assist teachers in evaluating the
media literacy of students for research-based assessments and interpreting
student data (Long term).
Establish a rubric for students to evaluate their developing skills in understanding
messaging, interpretation, bias and identifying facts (short term).

3. I will develop my leadership in Facilitating Professional Learning among


Colleagues
GOAL: Develop as a leader in working with new and experienced teacher in
improving their approach to planning, instruction, and student interactions.
RATIONALE: Studies have shown that students tend to benefit from positive
relationships with teachers. I find that not all of my colleagues have built
connections with students and this has impacted their students’ success and

NBPTS: Proposition 5: Teachers are members of Professional Communities
TLMD: Domain 3: Promotes Professional Learning for Continuous Improvement
OBJECTIVE: Create a school wide culture that encourages teachers and students
to involve themselves in after school activities, show off school spirit and take
responsibility for their campus (Long term).
Work with colleagues to develop an agreement on how teachers should engage
with students in the classroom, at events and in the community. (Short term).
