Let’s Explore and Discover

We have a very wide meaning of "ART". If you get a brush paint and start with your pallette and begin to express in the
canvass, it is an Art. If you get a wood and start carving which is something expressive, is an Art. If you sing a song expressed with all
your heart, it is an Art. If you dance according to your body's desire, it is an Art. If you learn to focus and value shots to photography,
it is an Art. If you like to act that will take good effect in the cinematography, it is an Art. If you cook well and do the designs and
make the best taste and aroma of your food, that's an Art. If you write stories, poems letters, declamation, orations and express
them all with feelings and with good delivery, it is an Art. If you want to act live on stage and be part of the theater arts, that is an
Art.

Art Appreciation is the ability to interpret or understand man-made arts and enjoy them either through actual and work-
experience with art tools and materials or possession of these works of art for one’s admiration a satisfaction.
 Art has been created by all people at all times; it has lived because it is liked and enjoyed. A true work of art is made by man
himself not imitatively. A true artist does not imitate nature but rather interprets it in his own way by selecting the essential features
of the subject and rejected he minor ones.
The term Art comes from the Aryan root ar which means “to join” or “put together”; from the Greek words, “artizein”, which
means to “prepare”, and arkiskien, meaning to “put together.”

Through an artist’s works, we get a glimpse of the thoughts, feeling, and beliefs of the people who lived in the period the
artwork was produced and the external factors that influence the artwork. Our aesthetic experience can change our ways and
respectable human beings. The arts can be beautifying our humanity. This explains why the arts called the humanities. It brings out
the good and the noble in us. Through the arts, we come to know the changing image of man as he journeys across the time,
searches for the reality, and strives the ideals that create the meaning of life.
One important characteristic of art is that it is not nature. Art is a man’s expression of his reception of nature. Art is a man’s
way of interpreting nature. Art is not nature. Art is made by man whereas nature us given around us. It is in his juncture that they
can be considered opposites. What we find in nature should not be expected to be present in art too. Movies are not meant to be
direct representation of reality. They may, according to the moviemaker’s perception of reality, be a reinterpretation, or even
distortion of nature.
A work of art then cannot be abstracted from actual doing. In order to know what an art is, we have to sense it, see or hear
it. To fully know the Rizal monument in Luneta,one must go to Luneta and see the actual sculture. In order to know Beyonce’s music,
one must listen to it. One must have heard her songs and actually experience them.
