VISUALIZATION AND CLASSIFICATION OF MATTER

In this activity, models will be used to illustrate that matter is made up of

particles. A shaded circle will represent an atom of an element, and a combination of
shaded circles will represent a compound. A collection of single or combined shaded
circles will be used to show the difference between pure substances and mixtures.

PROCEDURE;

1.

BOX A BOX B BOX C BOX D

2. You are given four sets of boxes (B0x A, Box B, Box C, Box D) in number 1
with shaded and unshaded circles inside it. Shaded circles is assigned as letter A
and unshaded circles is assigned as letter B.
3. Try to examine each box and answer the following:
a. Are the balls the same or different?
b. Do the balls represent a pure substance or a mixture?
c. Do the balls represent an element or a compound?
4. Make a possible formula for:
a. the monoatomic element
b. the diatomic element
c. the compound
