QUESTION:

1. CAN A TEACHER BE DISMISSED ON THE GROUNDS OF

IMORALITY?

Based on the case of Mr. Santos and Mrs. Martin, it only shows that teachers or other

faculty in the school can be dismissed from service if they show or commit immorality.

Because as a teacher we have a law to follow and come with a great responsibility in teaching

students, we serve as a role model to our fellow teachers, to students and even to our

community, the teacher plays a big role towards the learning of students. The teacher is

supposed to foster and to elevate the knowledge of the students, the teachers must adhere to

the exacting standards of morality and decency. So if you commit an immoral act, your

student may follow it and it is not good in the eyes of your fellow teachers and even in the

community. Just like in this case that the two people involved, Mr. Santos and Mrs. Martin. It

is not good to have an extra marital relationship especially within the school, it has been

proven and they have spread throughout the school. Such an issue would be extremely

damaging to the name of the school. Parents may also lose trust in the teachers of the said

school. So as a future educator, we just have to follow our code of ethics, be careful in
everything we do and decisions in life, we serve a good example to everyone and we become

teachers not only as a profession but as a passion.

QUESTION:

1. DOES THE SCHOOL HAVE THE AUTHORITY TO DISCIPLINE

STUDENTS OVER THEIR FACEBOOK POSTS?

Based on the case mentioned about Vivares and STC, my opinion became mixed as to

whether the school has the authority to discipline students in the Facebook posts of their

students. First of all, we know that Facebook is a website which allows users, who sign-up

for free profiles, to connect with friends, work colleagues or people they don't know, online.

It allows users to share pictures, music, videos, and articles, as well as their own thoughts and

opinions with however many people they like. That means we are free to do anything on

Facebook based on its terms and conditions. So I agree that the school will no longer invade

the privacy of the children because they are not the only ones who saw the said photographs.

Secondly, children are still minors so it is not pleasant and not morally correct to post such

obscene photos on Facebook. Such activities by students may damage the reputation of the

school and the teachers, because most will think that what the teachers are teaching the child

and they will not be guided by it properly. I know that the guidance will come from the

parents but the teachers also have a part in it because they are the second parents and the

children are in school almost all day. Third, I see that students violate the school's Student

Handbook so they should be punished accordingly. So in my opinion, the school can

discipline the students about their Facebook posts, they can reprimand and guide the students.

Because if the parents can't do it, the school will do it.
