孔子学院 Confucius Institute
截至2011年底，已建立孔子学院358所，比去年新增36所；建立孔子课堂500个，比去年新增
131个。分布在105个国家和地区。340所孔子学院、430个孔子课堂开始运营，注册学员50万人，
开办各类汉语教学班2.4万班次，举办各种文化活动1.3万场，参加人数达722万。共有专兼职教师1
万余人，其中，中方人员2200人。
By the end of 2011, 358 Confucius Institutes have been established, with an increase of 36
over the previous year, and 500 Confucius Classrooms have been established, with an increase
of 131 over the previous year. The Confucius Institutes/Classrooms are distributed over 105
countries and regions. 340 Confucius Institutes and 430 Confucius Classrooms are currently up
and running, with over 500,000 registered students. 24,000 Chinese classes have been opened
and 13,000 cultural activities were held, with up to 7.22 million participants. There are more
than 10,000 full-time and part-time teachers, 2,200 of whom were dispatched by Hanban.

9612 local Chinese language teachers in 78 countries have been trained on how to use
teaching materials and have attended 158 workshops all year around.
向110个国家1767个机构赠送教材272万册。统一为孔子学院和孔子课堂配送教材133万册。
About 2.72 million volumes of teaching materials have been donated to 1,767 institutions in
110 countries. Approximately 1.33 million volumes of teaching materials have been provided to
Confucius Institutes and Confucius Classrooms by Hanban.
国际交流 International Exchanges

邀请美、英、法、日等国1944名中小学校长和教育官员访华，邀请来自70个国家的6382名青少
年学生来华参加“汉语桥”国际学生夏令营、冬令营。

1944 elementary and secondary school principals and educational officials from foreign
countries, such as the US, the UK, France and Japan, were invited to visit China, and 6,382 for-
eign students from 70 countries were invited to China for the “Chinese Bridge” Summer/Winter
Camp for International High School Students.
汉语考试 Chinese Tests

全球汉语考试考生达到201万人次，与上年同比增长近2倍。
The number of examinees taking Chinese tests amounted to 2.01 million around the world,
almost tripling that of last year.
全球考点达488个，分布于88个国家和地区。其中孔子学院考点215个，分布于77个国家和地区。
Currently, there are 488 Chinese test centers in 88 countries and regions, 215 of which are
located at Confucius Institutes in 77 countries and regions.
孔子学院奖学金 Confucius Institute Scholarships

全年各类奖学金生规模达6895名，其中招收新生3205名，来自118个国家。在校奖学金生
3640人。
By the end of 2011, Confucius Institute Scholarships have been awarded to 6,895 foreign
students, among which 3,205 are new recipients from 118 countries and 3,640 are on-campus
students.
网络孔子学院 Confucius Institute Online

完成网站改版工作，实现45个外国语种版本上线试运行。网络孔子学院注册用户数超过30万
人，140个国家（地区）。新增注册用户18万人，网站访问量为8566万多次，是前3年总量的154%。
Confucius Institute Online has completed its revision, and the brand new website available
in 45 foreign languages has been built up preliminarily and put into a pilot run. The number of
registered users of Confucius Institute Online has amounted to 300,000 from 140 countries and
regions. Among which, 180,000 are newly registered users. And web visits have reached over
85,660,000, representing 154% of the total hits recorded in the last three years.

12月12日，第六届孔子学院大会开幕式在北京国家大剧院举行。

孔子学院继续稳步发展，办学规模不断扩大，综合文化交流平台作用日益凸
现。截至2011年底，已在105个国家和地区建立了358所孔子学院和500个孔子课
堂。其中，孔子学院在亚洲30国(地区)83所，非洲20国25所，欧洲34国122所，美
洲13国112所，大洋洲3国16所。孔子课堂在亚洲12国40个，非洲5国5个，欧洲14
国102个，美洲6国324个，大洋洲2国29个。全年新建孔子学院36所，新建孔子课
堂131个；注册学生50万人，同比增长39%；开设汉语课程2.4万班次。各国孔子
学院深入社区，举办各类文化活动1.3万多场次，参加人数722万。
Thanks to its firm development and continuous expansion, the Confucius
Institute has been playing an increasingly important role as the platform for
comprehensive cultural exchanges. By the end of 2011, 358 Confucius Insti-
tutes and 500 Confucius Classrooms have been established in 105 countries
and regions. Of which, there are 83 Confucius Institutes in 30 Asian countries
and regions, 25 in 20 African countries, 122 in 34 European countries, 112 in

13 American countries, and 16 in 3 Oceania countries. There are 40 Confucius

Classrooms in 12 Asian countries, 5 in 5 African countries, 102 in 14 Euro-
pean countries, 324 in 6 American countries, and 29 in 2 Oceania countries. In
2010, 36 Confucius Institutes and 131 Confucius Classrooms were added. The
number of registered students reached 500,000, an increase of 39% over the
previous year, and 24,000 Chinese classes were offered. Confucius Institutes
worldwide held more than 13,000 cultural activities in local communities with
7.22 million participants.

In 2011, the total funds provided by both Hanban and its foreign partners
(the ratio of both sides’ financial input approximately remains at 1 to 1) were
USD 275 million, a year-on-year increase of 12.9%. The total area of the ex-
clusive teaching venues used by operating Confucius Institutes and Confucius
Classrooms reached 208,000 square meters, an increase of 54% over the pre-
vious year, with an average of 525 square meters for each Confucius Institute or
Confucius Classroom. Currently, there are over 10,000 full-time and part-time
faculty and staff members, including 2,200 teachers and directors dispatched

a total circulation of over 40,000 copies, have a readership of 500,000 in 102
countries and regions.

Joint Conference of Confucius Institutes in North America, Europe, Asia,
Africa, Latin America and Confucius Institute Conferences in Russia, Japan,
France and Germany were held, thereby, facilitating the exchanges and coop-
eration among the Confucius Institutes around the world.
2011年春节期间，组织国内35所高校分赴46个国家，开展中华文化巡讲、文
艺巡演、教材巡展活动500多场，观众40万人，受到当地热烈欢迎。
During the Spring Festival of 2011, teams were selected from 35 domestic
universities to work with Confucius Institutes in 46 countries, jointly launching
more than 500 cultural lectures tours, performance tours and teaching materials
exhibition tours in local communities with 400,000 participants involved. These

In mid December, the Assembly of the Council of the Confucius Institute
Headquarters and the 6th Confucius Institute Conference were held in Beijing.
Mr. Li Changchun, a member of the Standing Committee of the Political Bureau
of the CPC Central Committee attended the Conference and presented the
prizes to the winners of Confucius Institute Outstanding Contribution Award and 伊比利亚美洲地区孔子学院联席会在阿根廷召开。
The Joint Conference of the Iberia-American Confucius
Confucius Institute Individual Performance Excellence Award of the Year 2011. Institutes is held in Argentina.
After the prize-awarding ceremony, Mr. Li Changchun watched the wonderful
performance of “I SING BEIJING” Concert. Mdm. Liu Yandong, Chinese State
Councilor and Chairwoman of the Council of the Confucius Institute Headquar-
ters, also attended these conferences and the concert, awarding prizes to the
winners of Confucius Institute (Classroom) of the Year 2011 and delivering a
speech.

The Joint Conference of Confucius Institutes in Asia is
held in South Korea.
美国芝加哥佩顿中学师生应胡锦涛主席访华，在泰州中学受到师生们的热烈欢迎。

加大教师派出力度，2011年共向123个国家派出教师3343 人，比2010年增
加11.43 %。
More emphasis was given to dispatch more teachers. In 2011, 3,343
teachers were sent to 123 countries, an increase of 11.43% from that of 2010.
进一步加强汉语国际教育专业硕士学位培养工作。全国汉语国际教育专业硕
士学位研究生教育指导委员会完成换届工作。培养院校增至83所，共招收3903

人，在校生总数为9715人。举办“中华文化与传播”课程研修班，40名汉语国际
教育硕士培养院校教师参加。
The program for Master of Teaching Chinese to Speakers of Other Lan-
guages (MTCSOL) has been further enhanced. Election for the new session of
National MTCSOL Education Steering Committee was completed with great
success. In 2011, the numbers of the total training academies increased to
83, recruiting a total of 3,903 regular graduate students, which made the total
number of students 9,715. And 40 teachers from the universities responsible for
the program of MTCSOL attended the training and workshop entitled “Chinese
Culture and Promotion”.
扩大外国本土汉语教师培养培训规模。2011年招收1036名外国学生来华攻
读汉语国际教育专业硕士学位。与奥地利维也纳大学签订合办汉语师范专业协
议。已在美国密歇根州立大学、美国陶森大学、德国哥廷根大学、奥地利维也纳
大学合作建立4个汉语师范专业。2011年共培训外国本土汉语教师32319人。
The scale of training local Chinese language teachers has been enlarged.
In 2011, 1,036 foreign students were admitted to pursue the program for Mas-
ter of Teaching Chinese to Speakers of Other Languages. An agreement was
signed with University of Vienna in Austria to jointly set up a major in Teaching
Chinese as a Second Language. Such partnership has also been established
with Michigan State University in USA, Towson University in USA, and the Uni-
versity of Göttingen in Germany. In total, 4 partnerships for such a major have
been established. Up till now, about 32,319 local Chinese language teachers
have been trained in the year of 2011.

进一步修订《国际汉语教师标准》和《国际汉语教师培训大纲》，并先后在
孔子学院亚洲、欧洲、拉美地区联席会议和世界汉语教学学会第八届理事会第四
次全体会议上征求意见，拟修改完善后公布实施。
Standard for International Chinese Language Teachers (SICLT) and The
Training Syllabus for International Chinese Language Teachers (TSICLT) were
further revised. By widely soliciting inputs at Joint Conference of Confucius In-
stitutes in Asia, Europe and Latin America and the 4th Plenary Session of the 8th
Council Meeting of the International Society for Chinese Language Teaching,
the SICLT and TSICLT (discussion draft) were planned to be promulgated and
put into implementation after further perfection.
志愿者派出人数稳步增长，2011年共向81个国家派出志愿者3472人，比上
年增长11%。其中孔子学院（课堂）志愿者983人，比上年增长54%。其中，聘用

的当地志愿者62人。至此，已累计向91个国家派遣志愿者14125人次。
The number of volunteers dispatched witnessed a steady increase. In
2011, a total of 3,470 volunteer Chinese language teachers were sent to 81
countries, up by 11% year-on-year. Among them, 983 volunteers were sent to
Confucius Institutes (Classrooms), representing a year-on-year increase of 54%;
62 volunteers are overseas volunteers. So far, altogether 14,125 volunteer Chi-
nese language teachers have been dispatched to 91 countries.
提高志愿者选拔标准，完善心理测试系统，严格筛选程序，人选质量大幅提
高。全年共组织20次志愿者选拔面试，候选人4922人，录取2911人。
Thanks to the higher selection standards, an improved psychological test-
ing system and the stricter selection procedures, the competence of candidates
has been greatly improved. 20 interviews were organized for a total of 4,922
candidates, among whom, 2,911 were recruited.

Training program for teachers teaching Chinese to speakers of other languages is organized. The photo
shows a group discussion of trainees at the "Chinese Culture and Promotion" Workshop.
制定《关于加强案例教学，提高志愿者培训针对性的措施》，通过加强案例
教学、增加教学实践课、建立课程选修和免修机制、研制培训大纲实施细则、国
内国外培训相结合等方式对培训进行改革。全年共组织志愿者集中培训9期，培
训人数3460人。
Measures for Reinforcing Case-Teaching and Improving Pertinence of Vol-
unteer Trainings was formulated. Training reforms were carried out in various
fields, such as enhancing case teaching, adding more teaching practice cours-
es, setting up optional course and course exemption structure, studying on the
rules on implementing the training syllabus, as well as conducting trainings both

at home and abroad. Three thousand four hundred sixty volunteers were inten-
sively trained in 9 rounds throughout the year.
完善对志愿者的服务和保障，为志愿者提供志愿者手册、教学资源包、电子
期刊等。
Services and support for volunteers were improved, providing Volunteer
Manual, teaching resource kits, teaching aid kits and e-magazines to the volun-
teers.
举办“志愿者风采”2011年国际汉语教师志愿者摄影大赛和首届国际汉语教
师志愿者海外教学大赛。
International Photography Competition for Volunteer Chinese Language
Teachers 2011 entitled “Volunteer Glamour” and the first Chinese teaching
competition among volunteer Chinese language teachers were held with great
success.

加大教材使用培训力度，共举办各种培训活动158场，对78个国家9612名本
土教师进行教材使用培训。
Training on using teaching materials has been strengthened. 158 intensive
training sessions were held for 9,612 local Chinese language teachers in 78
countries.
教材开发取得新突破。采用市场机制，组织出版社编写孔子学院通用教材
《新概念汉语》、多媒体视听教材《中国好人》、
《孔子动漫读物》等教材及读物。
年度报告
完成《中国蒙学经典故事丛书》、《中外文化交流故事丛书》10个语种翻译，完成
《中国历史常识》、
《中国地理常识》、
《中国文化常识》30个语种翻译。
New breakthroughs have been made in the development of Chinese teach-
ing materials. Market mechanisms were employed to organize publishing hous-
es to compile teaching materials and reading materials, such as mainstream
teaching materials of Confucius Institutes New Concept Chinese, multi-media
& audio-visual teaching materials and reading materials Chinese Good Fellows,
and Confucius Animation Reading Materials. Tales from China’s Classic Essential
Readings, Roads to the World have been translated into 10 languages. Com-
mon Knowledge about Chinese History, Common Knowledge about Chinese
Geography and Common Knowledge about Chinese Culture have been trans-
lated into 30 languages.
拓宽教材推广渠道。组织出版社参加巴黎语言展、西班牙高等教育展、伦敦
书展、北京国际图书博览会、法兰克福书展、英国语言展、美国全美外语教学学会汉语视听教材《中国好人》广告画

Under Hanban’s organization, publishing houses participated in 7 language
teaching resource exhibitions such as Expolangues Paris, Spanish Tertiary Edu-
cation Exhibition, London Book Fair, Beijing International Book Fair, Frankfurt In-
ternational Book Fair, London Language Show, and Annual Session & Exhibition

reading materials. Hanban also held over 200 cooperation talks and 113 activi-
ties including promotion conferences, symposiums, demo classes and cultural
activities which attracted more than 130,000 visitors. In addition, the Interna-
tional Exhibition of Chinese Language Teaching Materials was held during
the 6th Confucius Institute Conference. Over 150 local Chinese language teach-
ing materials developed by over 70 Confucius Institutes (Classrooms) were on
display.

The Research and Training Base for International Chinese Language Teach-
er Examination was established in Northeast Normal University. Developing on
a steady track, 20 Bases for International Promotion of Chinese completed 88
training programs and fostered 7,381 Confucius Institute directors, teachers,
and volunteers. In addition to training programs, more than 100 projects for
other promotion purposes were undertaken.

汉语考试规模成倍增长。全球汉语考试考生达到201万人次，比前一年同比
增长近2倍。孔子学院组织考生突破35万人次，占全球考生的14%。全球考点达
488个，遍布88个国家和地区。新汉语水平考试HSK网考顺利开展，在中国、美
国、加拿大、韩国参加网考考生达4893人。
In 2011, the number of test takers witnessed an exponential growth. Glo-
bally, the number of examinees taking Chinese tests amounted to 2.01 million,
almost tripling that of the previous year. Confucius institutes made a break-
through with 350,000 people (14% of total test takers worldwide) having reg-

and regions. HSK online test was well under way and there were 4,893 people
registered for online tests in China, the US, Canada and South Korea.

On December 12, 2011, the Fourth Plenary Session of the 8th ISCLT Stand-
ing Council & the Fourth Plenary Session of the 8th ISCLT Council were held in
Beijing. Xu Jialu, President of ISCLT and Vice-Chairman of the 9th & 10th Stand-
ing Committee of the National People’s Congress of PRC, attended the confer-
ence and delivered a keynote speech. The Conference featured the participa-
tion of more than 50 council members from Egypt, Peru, France, South Korea,
Canada, the US, Portugal, Japan, Switzerland, Thailand, Singapore, the UK,
Vietnam, Mainland China, Taiwan and Hong Kong.
