1. We cannot actually inherit or catch a disease such as cancer or heart disease from a family
member. How, then, does genetics affect our chance of developing certain diseases and
disorders? Write your response in the space below in complete sentences.
We cannot actually inherit any diseases or disorders that our family members may have.
Instead, we inherit a potential or a chance for acquiring these diseases and disorders.

2. If heart disease runs in my family, how can I prevent or prolong my chance of developing
heart disease? List five (5) factors we can control.

3. If cancer runs in my family, list three (3) preventative measures I can take to protect myself
