Health Lifestyle

(DEPARTMENT: PASDI)

Cess: Good nutrition, daily exercise, and adequate sleep are the foundations of
healthy living. A healthy lifestyle keeps you fit, energetic, and at reduced risk for
disease. According to WHO, Healthy living is a way of living that helps you enjoy
more aspects of your life. It is a way of living that lowers the risk of being
seriously ill or dying early. Health is not just about avoiding a disease or illness. It
is about physical, mental, and social well-being too.

Cess: Managing stress in positive ways, instead of through smoking or drinking

alcohol, reduces wear and tear on your body at the molecular level. For a longer
and more comfortable life, you should adopt a healthy lifestyle that keeps your
body healthy including your nervous, reproductive, and endocrine systems.

Kend: These are the ways to achieve a healthy lifestyle:

Kend: 1. Work Out.

Your lifestyle should support a constant healthy weight for normal daily activity.
Take part in an exercise that is appropriate for your body; aim to exercise at least
three times a week. Working out as part of an exercise regimen helps aging adults
improve their memory and brain health. A study found that exercisers showed
an increase in blood flow to the hippocampus, the region of the brain most directly
affected by Alzheimer’s disease.

Kend: 2. Monitor your eating patterns.

Did you know that your brain takes about twenty percent of your daily energy
intake? That means the food choices we make have a profound effect on the
way our brain functions. Also, your heart, muscles, bones, immune system, and
other body systems depend on a continual supply of nutrients for cell growth and
metabolism. You need to eat a varied diet to get essential nutrients in the form of
protein, vitamins, carbohydrates, minerals, and fats. Eat a balanced diet that
includes good levels of B-12 and D vitamins, as well as healthy fats. Certain foods
such as leafy greens, cruciferous veggies, avocados, and berries have all been
linked to brain health. Certain foods can help in calming and healing the nervous
system.
If you don’t enjoy going to the gym, find a creative way or a partner that can
motivate you to exercise regularly.

Kend: 3. Avoid Smoking

In women, a single stick of cigarette contains countless toxic compositions that

lead to addiction, cancer, and coronary issues. Studies have shown that smoking
can compromise the ovaries, the uterus, and other areas of the female
reproductive system. Also, smoking during pregnancy can predispose your
unborn child to congenital abnormalities.

In men, studies show that smoking can lead to DNA damage in sperm. Some
evidence shows that men with elevated sperm with DNA damage may have
reduced fertility and higher miscarriage rates. In addition, smoking is a risk factor
for erectile dysfunction (ED), which can make getting pregnant a challenge.

Cess: 4. Avoid getting stressed.

Your body responds to everyday stress with a release of hormones that prepares
you to react. Although some stress is inevitable and necessary, an excess can lead
to various health problems. If you don’t relieve this excessively stressful state
through relaxation, the effects build and can create muscular pain, headaches, sleep
disturbances, and other symptoms. A lifestyle that includes regular stress
management, breaks this cycle before it can progress to unhealthy levels. You can
achieve physical relaxation through stretching, body massage, yoga, or enjoyable
exercise. Connect with friends and family to relieve mental pressures and take time
out to read, pursue a hobby, or experience another activity that makes you feel
good.

Cess: 4. Get plenty of Sleep

Good rest is the key element of a healthy endocrine system. Rest is essential for
the hormones in your body to function naturally; lack of rest may lead to stress,
weight gain, and other serious health issues. Memory consolidation and appetite
regulation also occur during this time of reduced physical activity. Seven to nine
hours of night sleep daily is considered an optimum for most individuals for a
healthy lifestyle.
Kend: Why should you choose a healthy lifestyle?

A healthy lifestyle gives you a longer and happier life. With the increasing
prevalence of lifestyle diseases in India, one out of four Indians is at risk of dying
from non-communicable diseases such as diabetes, cardiovascular ailments, or
cancer before the age of seventy. Adopting bad habits, such as poor diet, lack of
exercise, irregular sleep patterns, and resorting to excessive smoking or alcohol use
might put you in with 38 million people, who are limited due to one or more
chronic health conditions.

Kend: How do we control our bad habits and live healthier?

Bad habits restrict us to stay healthy. Tobacco, alcohol, lack of physical activity,
and junk foods are very harmful to health. Willpower plays an important role to be
away from bad habits.

Cess: When you adopt a healthy lifestyle, you provide a more positive role model
for other people in your family, particularly children. You will also create a better
environment for them to grow up in. By helping them to follow a healthier
lifestyle, you will be contributing to their well-being and enjoyment of life now
and in the future.

Cess: Always remember that, the PASDI ensures to keep the healthiness of your
body, including your endocrine, reproductive, and nervous systems.
All: "Take a pledge to follow a healthy lifestyle, for a longer and healthier life.
Take care!"
