BUREAUS, AND AGENCIES OF THE NATIONAL GOVERNMENT;
LOCAL GOVERNMENT UNITS; GOVERNMENT- OWNED OR.
CONTROLLED CORPORATIONS; AND STATE UNIVERSITIES AND
COLLEGES
SUBJECT: Activities in Celebration of Earth Month
Earth Month celebrations started in the 1970s when organizations and
governments across the globe dedicated the month of April to mobilize communities for
a healthy and sustainable environment and a green planet.
This year, Earth Month started with Earth Hour, a world-wide effort to reduce
carbon emissions by turning off lights for one hour last Saturday, March 28 from 8:30 to
9:30 pm.
Similar concerted efforts by government entities and its 1.4 million workforce can
have an immense impact on environmental conservation. Hence, the Civil Service
Commission hereby enjoins all instrumentalities of the government and their personnel
to undertake the following Earth Month activities:
a) Hold at least one talk during a flag raising ceremony to be conducted by
DENR officials or civil society advocates to discuss environmental issues and
concerns in the country and what people can do in their respective
workplaces, houses and communities to conserve energy and resources,
reduce pollution, conserve flora and fauna and otherwise preserve Mother
Earth;
b)
Begin or expand segregation of garbage in the workplace. Offices can set up
the basic system of one bin for paper, cans, plastic, glass, cloth and other
non-biodegradables, and another bin for all other trash;
°)
Bring plants for the office. Every employee can bring at least one plant for the
office area or on the agency grounds;
