ANSWERS
An Explanation Of The 1.5 Sigma Shift
DPU DPMO ( ppm )
When we talk about a "Six Sigma Process", we are
referring to the process as it is now, or short-term. When
we talk about the DPMO of the process, we are referring
to the process in the future, or long-term. We choose 3.4
#DIV/0! #DIV/0! defects per million opportunities (DPMO) as our goal.
This means we would have a 6 sigma process now
(short-term) in order to have a 4.5 sigma process in the
future (long-term). The short-term process Sigma of 6
Process Sigma Level Process Sigma Level and the long-term process Sigma of 4.5, both produce a
Short-Term ( with Sigma shift )* Long-Term ( without Sigma shift ) defect level of 3.4 defects per million opportunities
(DPMO). The calculator assumes you are providing
long-term data and adjusts the short-term Process
#DIV/0! #DIV/0! Sigma Level by the value of the Sigma Shift.
