GENERATOR A GAS TURBINE
R
S
The lube oil system is designed to supply cooled and filtered oil to
the turbine, gearbox and alternator from a tank in the bedplate.
The system is monitored by the PLC to maintain the oil
temperature and pressure within preset limits.
The lube oil tank within the bedplate contains 1000 litres of turbine
oil.
Average consumption is 1.2litres per day.
Oil specified is Mobil Jetoil II

Oil Tank
The lube oil tank is built into the bedplate and contains 1000litres
of Mobil Jetoil 2
The tank may be topped up while the machine is running through
the bedplate external filling valve using the manual lever pump.
A dipstick is included in the filler cap within the enclosure
A level Transmitter provides the following signals to the control
system
Lube Oil Tank Level Low - oil tank level below 770litres (Alarm);
612litres (S/D)
The Centrax Oil Control Module combines all the regulating and
control devices for the supply of lubrication oil to the generator set
within a single module.
These include the pressure regulators for the engine and the
gearbox/alternator supply; the temperature regulator; the filter
mounting; and tappings for temperature and pressure transmitters.

TRAINING GAS TURBINES
Oil is initially pumped into the valve via the priming pump inlet port
through a check valve which cracks open when the pressure
exceeds 0.3 barg and will allow 150 Ipm into the system.
After priming the main pump delivers 350 Ipm into port MP where
the oil is regulated by the poppet-type cartridge main stage valve
and sequence pilot valve.
A pilot feed is taken down stream of the filters to sense the
gearbox oil pressure and connects to port S1.
The oil pressure on the sensing line is dependent on the set relief
pressure of the sequence pilot valve.
The oil flow is split through the thermostatic element and cooler
supply port CS which allows the warm oil to mix cool oil from port
CR before flowing into the filter port FI.
After the oil has been filtered, the oil enters port FO and splits out
to the gearbox port G and into the second regulator.
A normally open spool type cartridge valve and direct acting relief
valve reduce the pressure, prior to the oil flowing out of port T
towards the engine.
The pressure at port T is equivalent to the set relief valve vent
pressure.
The vents for the pressure control valves are housed within the
module where the oil is relieved through 3 holes in the base of the
module into the reservoir.

TRAINING SCHEMATIC OIL CONTROL MODULE GAS TURBINES
To Alternator
On initiation of a start the Priming Oil Pump feeds oil through the
Oil Control Module (OCM) to the turbine, gearbox and alternator
When priming oil pressure (0.68bar) is achieved, the starter is
engaged and the set starts to rotate and the main gearbox driven
oil pump starts to pump
At 6,000rpm the main oil pump is providing sufficient system
pressure and the Priming oil pump is switched off.
At 13,000rpm the oil cooler fan is switched on.
Oil passing through the OCM is filtered and maintained at 2.1bar
and 55°C by the internal regulating devices.
Supply to the engine is maintained at 0.35bar to the engine's
auxilliary gearbox where the internal oil pump boosts the pressure
to 3.8bar

The lube oil tank is built into the bedplate and contains 1000litres of
Mobil Jetoil II
Oil consumption is approximately 1.2 litres per day and the oil tank
is normally topped up during routine maintenance shutdowns either
through the filler cap (which incorporates a dipstick) or through the
external filling valve, mounted in the bedplate.
Oil tank level is displayed on the HMI Lube Oil screen and if the oil
level becomes critical, the control system will display a low level
alarm and shutdown
Lube Oil Tank Level Low - oil tank level below 770litres (Alarm);
612litres (S/D).
If necessary, the oil tank may be topped up while the machine is
running through the bedplate external filling valve using a manual
lever pump.
The synthetic lube oil contained within the tank should be be sent
for analysis by your oil supplier every 3 months.
The sample is analysed for Total Acid Number (TAN) and viscosity.
The TAN should not increase by more that 1.0mg KOH per gm
over that of new oil.
Viscosity should not increase by more than 15% to 25% over
that of new oil.
In the event that these levels are reached or exceeded the oil
should be changed/filter treated at the earliest opportunity.
Oil should always meet the following conditions:
Viscosity at 100°F (38°C) 25 to 32 CS minimum
TAN (mg KOH/g) 1.5 maximum
