INTRODUCTION

The Human Machine Interface (HMI) to the generator set is via a panel-
mounted touchscreen providing Supervisory, Control and Data Acquisition
(SCADA) facilities for package operation. An easy to operate system of
graphic and text displays provides comprehensive information on machine
operation, present and past through the following screen displays:

Overview, Systems, Data, Alarms, and a series of Trending Screens.

Schematics of main systems are shown with component status as

appropriate. Values of certain parameters are displayed on a real-time
basis. Analogue parameters transmitted to the panel are displayed digitally.
Any alarm or shutdown message will overlay the current screen.

HMI DESCRIPTION AND OPERATION

Display Screens:
Each display screen is arranged as three panels with the banner at the top
and the function keys at the bottom of the screen remaining constant. The
main area of the screen is dedicated to the specific screen display ( ie

FUEL CHANGEOVER
Fuel changeover from Gas to Liquid fuel is automatically triggered when the
gas pressure drops to the Low Gas Pressure Alarm level. The process
takes approximately 20 seconds. The return to gas fuel is always a manual
operation using the fuel button on the Fuel screen. Manual fuel changeover
can be achieved at any time (providing both fuels are available) using the
fuel button. The control system will automatically switch from the current
fuel to the alternative fuel.

ALARM HANDLING

The HMI handles alarms in an intuitive manner that makes it quick and
easy to trace alarm conditions. The following example shows how alarms
appear within the System Views. The level of lubrication oil in the tank has
fallen below the Lo alarm level:

When the alarm occurs:

The Alarms overlay is displayed across the screen;
The Alarm siren is sounded;
The Acknowledge button starts to flash;

SYSTEMS SCREENS

Graphical symbols are used extensively on the Systems screens. Colours

are used to represent the state of process equipment. Some of the symbols
are also animated to give further indication of the operating state. RED is
used to indicate that a pump, fan or motor is STOPPED or a valve is
CLOSED; GREEN is used to indicate that a pump, fan or motor is
RUNNING or a valve is OPEN. Animated arrows are also used to indicate
flow; GREY is used where the operating state of a device is unknown or is
not monitored by the control system.

The system views use coloured symbols and animated links to show what
is happening within the particular subsystem. Analogue information and
alarm conditions are also shown in these views.

An example of a process variable displayed in the

system view. It links the process variable and all of its
associated alarm conditions into a single item. In this
case it is the Lube Oil Delivery Temperature
Transmitter

The sensing element and identifying tag indicate the

item with which the process variable is associated.

The current value of the process variable. Touch this

item will display a graph for this value to enable further
analysis.

GRAPHICAL TRENDING

The ability to graphically analyse process data over a period of time is one
of the most useful features of the HMI/SCADA. The application includes
both realtime and historical graphical trending of all analogue process
variables.

The two types of trending are very similar and share many common
features, such as the pen assignment functions. In each trend, four
coloured pens are available for assignment to process variables. The pens
are common to both trends, so if for instance, the red pen is assigned to
the oil temperature (GT_TI-314) process variable, then it will trace this
process variable in both the realtime and historical trend graphs.
Each of the pens can be allocated to a process variable from a data
window or the analogue tools window for a process variable.

Realtime Trending

Select the
Realtime
trending button in
the selection area
to display the
realtime trending
tool. It will remain
visible even if other
pages are selected
The realtime trend
tool provides fixed axis, moving charts of the four selected process
variables. The window is split into two trending displays. The first has a
timebase of 15 minutes and the second displays data from the past 2
minutes. In addition to the graphical representation of the data, the live
values of the four selected variables are displayed at the bottom of the
window. If the window is closed, the trended data is cleared. Realtime
trending will only restart if the window is opened again.

HISTORICAL TRENDING

Historical trending offers the ability to examine data gathered over a period
of time. Comprehensive tools are available on the historical trending page
to giving full control of the data to be viewed. It is also possible to export
this data onto disk for examination using other software, such as a
spreadsheet.

Select the Historical trending button to select the historical trending

page.

The upper section of

the historical page is
occupied by the
graphical display that
plots the process
data. The lower
section contains the
tools that can be
used for the
manipulation and
analysis of the
historical data.

The time selector tool is a special tool that has two useful
functions. The blue pointer can be used on it's own to display
the values of the selected process variables at specific points
in time. Both pointers can be used together to select and zoom
in to specific periods.
