GENERAL DESCRIPTION

Single Skid Design - machinery train and associated systems and

equipment mounted on a light weight baseplate.
Close Coupled Unit - turbine/reduction gear and generator are
close coupled , torque reaction being transmitted through the
casings rather than the baseplate - simplifies installation, reduces
maintenance and maintains alignment
Drop over enclosure provides acoustic reduction and controlled
ventilation for the equipment within.

ACOUSTIC ENCLOSURE

Constructed around a welded steel frame, to which are attached

acoustic panels and acoustic access doors.
The enclosure is divided into two at the turbine intake plenum to
segregate the hazardous turbine section (which contains gas and
liquid fuel, high temperatures etc) from the alternator section.
Each section is served by four contra-rotating ventilation fans
mounted in the intake of the vent system to create positive
pressure within the enclosure to maintain a cooling airflow and
also prevent the ingress of sand.
Apertures are provided in the roof for turbine intake, alternator
and turbine enclosure ventilation intake and discharge.
A further aperture is provided in the rear of the enclosure for the
turbine exhaust
Acoustic performance of fully enclosed generator set is 80dBA @
1m, 1.2 m above floor level

ENCLOSURE VENTILATION SYSTEM

Each section of the enclosure is pressurised by 2 pairs of

contra-rotating ventilation fans
Alternator section airflow: 378m3/min
Turbine section airflow: 279m3/min
The enclosure and turbine intake system share the same filters.
Solenoid operated shut off dampers are mounted in each of the
intake ducts after the fans for fire protection - auto-reset.
Each duct (turbine enclosure, turbine intake and generator
enclosure) is fitted with a differential pressure switch to trigger
pulse cleaning and provide an alarm/shutdown signal if the
enclosure ventilation system fails.

Do not attempt to change filters whilst the turbine is running!!!! Wear a dust mask whilst changing filters.
Isolate and vent off compressed air supply to pulse filter system before changeout.
Starting from the top of the filter house, vacuum off any dust accumulated on the filters that might enter the
cleanside before removal.
Starting from the top of the filter house, remove the retaining nuts and washers for each of the top row of filters
Replace each row at a time.. ..
Inspect filters at least every three months for tears, holes, leaks etc.

MAINTENANCE

All filters should be changed as soon after the ALARM signal is

indicated on the HMI as possible.
Compressed air manifold should be drained initially on a monthly
basis and, then as conditions dictate.
Check the pressure regulator setting, operation and gauges
mounted on the exterior of the filter housings regularly
Inspect filters for tears, holes, leaks etc at least every three
months.
Change filters when when pulsing fails to restore the filters to the
clean condition. Always change all the filters together.
The set MUST be shut down for air filter maintenance and extreme
caution must be taken not to drop anything into the intake ducting.

Turbine Air intake Filters - Maintenance

Filter houses should be regularly cleaned to prevent a build up of

dust beneath the filters. The preferred cleaning method is with a
vacuum cleaner on a weekly basis or as conditions dictate.
The function of the turbine intake filters is to minimise compressor
fouling by airborne pollutants. The better the filtration, the longer
the compressor operates at maximum efficiency. A fouled
compressor will result in a loss of power and an increase in fuel
consumption. This in turn will increase the frequency of
compressor washing to maintain the efficiency of the engine.

(continued)

Changing filters for a cheaper type may be a false economy if filter

efficiency is reduced. Always consult Centrax before changing the
specification or type of Turbine Intake Filters from those originally
supplied.
Some air filters have lifetimes in excess of 12 months. These
include pulse filter cartridges and high efficiency filters in multi
stage systems.
Centrax recommend that these filters are replaced after no more
than 3 years - this is particularly important with high efficiency
panel filters where mechanical degradation of the media can occur,
leading to significant reduction in efficiency and even breakup of
the element with potentially damaging results to the compressor.

(continued)

Where filters have been in service for more than two years and are
showing low pressure drops, this may be indicative of mechanical
failure of the filter media or frame seals, with a reduction in filtering
efficiency. Visual inspection is recommended with replacement as
necessary - always replace all the intake filters at the same time.
