Rev-3.0
This document generated to provide a general overview for the design and implementation of
Long Distance Network. Kindly be informed that additional work apart from the one mentioned
in the guidelines can be applicable based on site conditions and this will be discussed and
agreed during the course of design. Further any changes needed as per the local authority
request will also be discussed and agreed up with design prior to implementation.
2. Construction standards:
2. 1 Trench:
2.1.1: Network inside and till city limits: Inside the city contractor shall perform the
normal metro standards for the design and implementation. Contractor’s design team shall
coordinate with ITC Design team to know what type ducts and trench will be designed and
installed.
Contractor shall use primarily use Mini Manholes and in special case Round cover or 2 cover
ductile iron Handholes. Note all Manholes or Handholes will have HINGABLE covers.

2.1.2.1 : Main trench: The trench is dug as per the specification provided above. The armored
cable is installed with soft sand bed 10cm at the bottom and 20 cm at the top. It is preferred to
have two warning tapes with one on the top as metallic (for easy location by metal detector)
and one above the sand bed as nonmetallic as double layer protection.
Backfill material on top of the soil is usually the excavated material but without out big
boulders or rocks. That must be removed.
2.1.2.3: Mole plough is generally used in soft sand areas which stretches for kilometers
together.
The cable is installed along with the trench process.
2.1.2.4: Crossings: Diagrams below highlight the different scenarios that will be encountered
during the construction, where ducts will be needed to provide extra protection to the
network.

Wadi Crossing
One of the important requirement for the project is marker post. It identifies the network and
provides details to the O&M team for future works. Marker posts are usually installed at a
distance of 150mtr. Gap for a route without any hindrance in line of site or without any bends
and curves.
ITC uses both Concrete and Fiber glass marker posts. The selection of type to be used, will be
done during design stages.
Note: All Dimension in following drawings are in mm, unless specified otherwise.
Construction notes:
Bridge attachment are important for the network building. It is primary option in building the
long-distance network especially for the areas such as WADI crossing. Following options make
BRIDGE ATTACHMENT as primary option for design and implementation:
• WADI is too deep,
• Length of the wadi is too long, for the connectivity,
• WADI which is susceptible to heavy flash floods and can cause damage to buried
network through it.
Prior to any design and implementation permission to use this is confirmed from the concerned
authority.
Casing:
Cable Tray:
The Holder is created using the angular steel rods with width of 10cm and thickness of 5mm,
with Minimum of 4 holes to fix Holder with the Bridge Wall using 20mm bolts. (Galvanized
Steel).

Sequential length marking in meters
All Splicing works will be done inside the chambers, either Mini MH or Handholes. Based on site
conditions. Further modular Manholes can also be considered if Contractor is able to present a good
reliable solution.
Note covers for all Manholes / Handholes will be Hinged with locking mechanism. Concrete covers
might also be considered in special cases based on approval from ITC.
Following standard will be maintained for the cable loops inside the Mini MHs and Round cover HH.
Note# The loop length mentioned in the Splicing column is the cable distance between duct exits till
entry to the closure. Additional 1.5 mtr cable will be left inside the closure from both sides for splicing
and looping works.
