Single Acting Cylinder with Normally Closed 3/2 Values

(Yes Logic Direct Control)

Name: Date:
Instructor: Schedule:

I. Discussion

1. A single – acting cylinder is to outstroke and clamp a component when a N.C.

manually operated, 3/2 push button control value is pressed.

2. As long as the push button is pressed, the cylinder is to remain in the extended
position.

3. Once the push button is released, the cylinder is to return to the retracted position.

INSTRUCTION:

Draw out the circuit below complete with names of components, and correct
numbering of ports. Include a parts list and notes of the basic operation of the circuit for
the study purposes. Remember to draw the circuit the “At rest” state.

SINGLE ACTING CYLINDER

II. MATERIALS

1- Single Acting Cylinder

1- Normally Closed 3/2 Value
1- Compressed Air Supply

III.

1. Set up the materials, Single Acting Cylinder, Normally closed 3/2 value and the
compressed air supply. Align the materials vertically so that the ports will easily be
connected.
2. From the compressed air supply connect the tube to the port number 1 of the
normally and closed 3/2 value and a tube should be connected from port number 2
of the value to the Single Acting Cylinder.
3. When the N.C. manually operated, 3/2 push button control value is pressed the
Single Acting Cylinder is to outstroke and clamp a component. As long as the push
button is pressed, the cylinder is to remain in the extended position.
4. Once the push button is released, the cylinder is to return to the retracted position.

V. CONCLUSION

The outstroke and clamping of a component is clearly controlled by pushing the push
button on a direct controlled single acting cylinder with a usually closed 3/2 valve. The
piston rod will remain extended as long as the button is pushed, then retract when the
button is released.
