Using Exercise #6. Discuss how the circuit operates using the shuttle valve and limit switch
1.3 as indicated on the circuit.

Shuttle valve is a unit that allows two input signals to the combined in a function. It
consists of three openings one on each end (A and C), and one in the middle (B) .A ball moves
freely within the tube, blocking air pressure depending on the control.

When any of the opening on each end (A and C) is under fluid pressure, there will be a
supply from outlet or opening in the middle (B). In other words, when any one or both of input
signals is actuated there is output signal. When pressured to any inlet port, the ball within the
tube will close the other inlet port and fluid flows to outlet (B).

Exercise 6 Circuit Diagram
Based on my understanding:
Violet color line= High pressure air
Cyan color line= Low pressure air
I think the function of the shuttle valve and limit switch should be explain as a whole
circuit diagram. The initial state of the circuit diagram is where the compressed air supply
produces the compressed air for the system following the required volume and pressure. After
the initial step, it goes to Air service unit where it store and stabilize the compressed air and
compensate the pressure fluctuation then releases high pressured air. In our Circuit Diagram
above, the air service unit is connected to three valves: two 3/2-way valve with push button and
3/2-way roller lever valve.
3/2-way valve with push button
Pressing any push button of 3/2-way valve against the valve return spring will cause it to
actuate. After the actuation of any 3/2-way valve with push button high pressurized air will enter
the shuffle valve and outlet of the shuttle valve will release pressurized air into the 5/2-way
impulse valve then to the Double acting cylinder. Due to the high pressurized air the Double
acting cylinder will push the piston forward until the limit switch (1.3) senses its set maximum
extension and automatically push it back to its initial state with the help of 3/2-way roller lever
valve after releasing any 3/2-way valve with push button.
Actuation of 1.2 or 1.4
Release of any 3/2-way valve with push button

3/2-way roller lever valve(1.3)

When air service unit released the pressurized air the 3/2-way roller lever valve can be
actuated, but 3/2 way roller lever valve has its limitation.Due to the direction of release
pressurized air the circuit diagram will not change. Its only function is to automatically push the
pressurized air on the piston to get it back to its initial position when the limit switch sensed the
set maximum extension. In this manner the circuit diagram would be in cycles.
