Instructions: You are tasked to write at least 20 items per category the names of brands of
products that you are using, have used, and/or familiar with.
1. Would you choose local products over products from these foreign companies? Why?
. There are certain factors that need to consider in choosing products. It depends on
the quality if it is applicable and safe or not. I can choose local products over from
foreign companies because it helps to boost our economic growth by supporting
our own products. Aside from this, local products are high quality. Hence, local
products should be promoted and supported, it is our bare minimum effort to help
small businesses grow.
2. With what you have listed, do you have ideas where and when these companies started to
produce goods?
Food & Beverages - Out of twenty (20) companies that I’ve listed in the table, I
choose two (2) most popular companies to share when and where they started as a
company.
First one is the Starbucks. They started by selling coffee beans roasted by Peet's, a
gourmet coffee company in Berkeley, California, then began roasting their own.
The first Starbucks to sell brewed coffee opened in 1982.
Next one is the Jollibee which is the most popular fast good chain here in the
Philippines that also reached in others continents in the world. Jollibee Foods was
founded by Tony Tan Caktiong in 1975 and is headquartered in Pasig City,
Philippines. Tony Tan Caktiong is the founder and chairman of Jollibee Food, it's
one of the world's fastest-growing Asian restaurant chains. Jollibee operates more
than 3,300 eateries in the Philippines and more than 2,500 stores overseas.
Shoes & Clothes - Out of 20, I choose these brands because base on my own
experience it's comfortable to use. One of them is a shoe brand and clothing these
are NIKE and UNIQLO.
Based on Nike "Nike, Inc., formerly (1964–78) Blue Ribbon Sports, an American
sportswear company headquartered in Beaverton, Oregon. It was founded in 1964
as Blue Ribbon Sports by Bill Bower man, a track-and-field coach at the University
of Oregon, and his former student Phil Knight. They opened their first retail outlet
in 1966 and launched the Nike brand shoe in 1972. The company was renamed
Nike, Inc., in 1978 and went public two years later. By the early 21st century, Nike
had retail outlets and distributors in more than 170 countries, and its logo—a curved
check mark called the “swoosh”—was recognized throughout the world.
Beauty Products - I chose these two brands of beauty products because based on
my experience I usually used these two brands which are the Maybelline and Ever
Bilena.
Maybelline New York is the world's leading cosmetics brand, with a presence in
over 129 countries. Thomas Williams, a young Chicago chemist, faced a dilemma
in 1913. Maybel, his older sister, was madly in love with a man who was madly in
love with someone else. Maybel Williams did her best with what she had,
enhancing her lashes and brows with petroleum jelly. Her brother decided to assist
her in increasing her allure by adding carbon dust to the petroleum jelly, which
dramatically darkened her lashes and brows. The product was effective. Maybel got
her man in 1915, and Thomas founded Maybelline, the global industry behemoth
named after the bride and her favorite beauty aid.
First, Food Panda is founded on year 2012 by Delivery Hero which was first
launched in Singapore until it reached variety of markets in Asia, therefore, it is
currently considered as the largest food and grocery delivery platform in Asia.
Second, Grab Express was launched by Grab Philippines which also specializes in
door-to-door delivery or same day delivery through online booking. They are
known to be the emerging middle-class logistics solution of choice for they ensure
that their riders are well-trained to deliver thousands of parcels in a day. Well, in
fact, last July 2019, they managed to accept and deliver up to 10,000 parcels.
Next is the Netflix. It was established in Scotts Valley, California, USA on August
29, 1997 and founded by Reed Hastings and Marc Randolph. The Company started
sales and rental DVDs and that’s where its career began.
The latest is Shanghai Moonton technology Co. ltd. It is widely known as the
International video game developer and publisher of the famous mobile game,
Mobile Legends: Bang Bang. It is founded by Jing Yuan or Justin Yuan from
Shanghai, China. Moonton name Nuverse the subsidiary of ByteDance is now
owned by another company
4. What is the difference between the standard of living and the quality of life?
The standard of living pertains to what is available to a certain geographic area.
Whereas the quality of life is a subjective term important to understand that our
standard of living refers to what we needed in a socioeconomic that allows us to
survive. It is necessary to re-assess the value of life rather than living in a world
where negativity can be found.
5. What are some ways you can assess the standard of living?
There are different factors to assess the standard of living. One of these is the
availability of goods and services prior to what is needed by most of the people in
the society. Our standard of living determines what we have right now. Having an
education is a standard of living. Knowing your rights is also a standard of living.
Hence, it focuses on measuring the amount of a certain goods that will be allocated
to the people without harming any situation.
