What is the relationship between Islam and science?

A group of Muslim scholars says there is no inherent conflict between Islam and science. We may think the
charged relationship between science and religion is mainly a problem for Christian fundamentalists, but
modern science is also under fire in the Muslim world.

How did Islam contribute to science?

Many creative methods of doing multiplications were developed by Muslims; methods of checking by
casting out nines, and decimal fractions (Anawati, 1976). Thus Muslim scholars contributed and laid the
foundations of modern mathematics and the use of mathematics in the fields of science and engineering
(Høyrup, 1987).

Big BANG Theory

The universe began, scientists believe, with every speck of its energy jammed into a very tiny point. This
extremely dense point exploded with unimaginable force, creating matter and propelling it outward to make
the billions of galaxies of our vast universe. Astrophysicists dubbed this titanic explosion the Big BANG.

Quran pak says;-

➢ “Do not the unbelivers see that the heavens and the earth were joined together (as one unit of creations),before
we clove them asunder”

Scientific miracles
Among these miracles said to be found in the Quran are "everything, from relativity, quantum mechanics, Big Bang
theory, black holes and pulsars, genetics, embryology, modern geology, thermodynamics, even the laser and hydrogen
fuel cells".

The Earth
How would a person view the earth at that time and place? Well the obvious thing is to “listen to your eyes” and your
eyes are telling you the world is generally flat. This is because we are tiny in relation to the world. Thus, “earth
flatness” is a good approximation at our scale.

Quranic verse:

➢ He the earth as an egg... Quran 79:30 (e.g. dahaha)shaped

Now it should be noted that the Arabic word “dahaha” is used, and it has multiple meanings, one is of which refers to
an egg or egg-like shape. Of course words and word roots are not mathematical formulae; rather, they are born of
human experiences and the interactions of people with the world around them. As such, the word “egg “seems a
perfect metaphor for suggesting the roundness of the earth. (Even the poles are flattened, unlike say a soccer ball!)
Modern Science: Of course it has been well established for a while that the world is round (actually squished a bit at
the poles). There is, for example, a wonderful picture of earth rise – which is essentially a picture of earth from space
showing the earth’s curvature. This, of course, is the advantage of perspective: if seen from a different scale, the
earth’s curvature is obvious.

Moon and Sun

A person of that time and place was likely to see lights from the sky as emanating from those points.

Quranic verses:-
➢ “Blessed be the One Who placed constellations in the sky and Who placed therein a lamp and a lighted moon.
Quran 25:61”

➢ “He it is who has made the sun a source of radiant light and the moon a light reflected Quran 10:5”

and has set up within them the moon as a light [reflected], and set up the sun as a [radiant] lamp? Quran

71:16

Modern Science:-
We now know that light does not necessarily originate from the lighted sky points; sometimes it does, and
other times it is reflected light. For example, we now know that the planets and the moon, due of their low
initial masses, do not generate light in the way the sun does.
Specifically, one needs to have enough gravitational mass16 in order to power the nuclear fusion that
produces the sun’s light. Our sun is primarily powered by hydrogen17 fusion. The moon did not have
enough mass to become a star (like our sun), so its light does not emanate from itself but is rather a
reflection of light from the sun.

Merging Seas
➢ “He is the one who has set free the two seas;One Is sweet and palatable ,and he made a barrier
between them, A Partition that is forbidden to be passed.”
[AL QURAN 25:53]

Scientists can’t solve the mistery of the merging seas why they don’t dissolve. Our creator Allah has limited our
thinking power,We cant go beyond it.All of these is planned by ALLAH Almighty.

Yes, science confirms the verses of the Quran as it always has been and proves that it is the word of Allah. It is as
follows:

The French marine scientist Captain Jacques Cousteau, who is famous for underwater research, explains

the results of his investigations about water barriers as follows:

“We were investigating of some researcher’s judgments that put forth that there were some barriers that

separated different masses of the seas from each other. As a result of various studies, we saw that the

Mediterranean Sea has a peculiar natural level of salinity and density. At the same time, it has specific life

forms.

Then, we analyzed the mass of water in the Atlantic Ocean and saw that it was completely different than the

Mediterranean Sea. However, these two seas, which merge at the strait of Gibraltar, were supposed to be

equal or at least near to equal in terms of salinity, density and life forms that they had.

However, these two seas have different structures even in places where they converge closely. Upon

our investigations, we came across with an event that amazed us. or, there was a great water curtain

at the merging point that did not allow these two seas to mix up.

The same kind water barrier was founded by German scientists at Bab al-Mandab, where waters of

Gulf of Aden and Red sea converge in 1962. In our later investigations, we witnessed the existence of

the same kind of barrier in all merging points of seas that have different characteristics.”

This amazing fact, which amazed Captain Cousteau, about the waters that do not mix up though seas

converge is explained with the following verse in the Quran fourteen centuries ago:

➢ “He has let free the two bodies of flowing water,meeting together.Between them is a Barrier
which they do not transgress” (Quran 55:19-20)

Rotation of Moon,Sun and Earth

The Moon rotates on its axis and revolves around the Earth as the Earth revolves around
the Sun. It takes about 27 Earth days for the Moon to rotate on its axis and about 29
½ Earth days (month) for it to revolve around the Earth.

According to Quran:-

➢ “It is He Who created the Night and the Day, and the sun and the moon: All (the celestial
bodies) swim along, each in its rounded course.” [Al-Qur’an- Surah Al-Anbiya 21:33]
➢ “It is not permitted to the Sun to catch up the Moon, nor can the Night outstrip the Day: Each
(just) swims along in (its own) orbit (according to Law).” [Al-Qur’an –Surah Ya-Seen 36:40]

According to Science:-
The solar system is made up of the Sun, the planets that orbit the Sun, their satellites, dwarf planets and
many, many small objects, like asteroids and comets. All of these objects move and we can see these
movements. We notice the Sun rises in the eastern sky in the morning and sets in the western sky in the
evening. We observe different stars in the sky at different times of the year. When ancient people made these
observations, they imagined that the sky was actually moving while the Earth stood still.

In 1543, Nicolaus Copernicus ( proposed a radically different idea: the Earth and the other planets make
regular revolutions around the Sun. He also suggested that the Earth rotates once a day on its axis.
Copernicus’ idea slowly gained acceptance and today we base our view of motions in the solar system on his
work. We also now know that everything in the universe.

Baby in Embryo
Blood clot (Relatively large amounts of blood present in the embryo during this stage.Doesn’t circulate until
the end of(3/52). In mother’s embryo when baby is born it look like leech like substance.In which blood
does not circulate.

➢ “Then We made the sperm-drop into a clinging clot, and We made the clot into a lump [of flesh], and
We made [from] the lump, bones, and We covered the bones with flesh; then We developed him into
another creation. So blessed is Allah , the best of creators.”

A developing baby has already gone through a few name changes in the first few weeks of pregnancy.
Generally, your baby will be called an embryo from conception until the eighth week of development. After
the eighth week, the baby will be called a fetus until it's born.

Water and cycle

Water is essential for living;water system is mentioned in holy Quran ;ALLAH Almighty himself has taken
the responsibility to provide water to every living creature ;science verified the water system after thirteen
hundred years ,because the first scientist Bernard Palsy presented his theory in1580 about the water cycle
system where as Holy Quran 1400 years ago told the humanity about this water system .Quran says:

➢ “From his signs there is a lightning that He shows you for fear and hope,and He sends down water
from the sky which revives the earth after his death with a clear water system”
➢ Science proved the fact of holy Quran

Conclusion:
Islam contribute to science with many creative methods of doing multiplications were developed
by Muslims,methods of checking by casting out nines, and decimal fractions (Anawati, 1976).
Thus Muslim scholars and laid the foundations of modern mathematics and the use of mathematics in the

by Harun Al-Rashid. By the tenth century, Baghdad had five more , while Damascus had six hospitals by the
15th century and Córdoba alone had 50 major, many exclusively for the military. The Muslim scientists
worked on Astronomy, physics and other sciences and scientist from the west consider it as start of scientific Era.

When go in to details of the Islamic scientific study, it is mostly related to Quran. Muslims scientists had followed
every step of Quran and that is why today we are able to study the whole universe.the relationship between Islam and
