Harry Susilo Background - 

 Born in Indonesia in 1991


 Father-Fisherman-Fijian Province,China
 Mother-Third generation- Chinese Indonesian
 Family moved to Sidarjo - fishing village in Surbaya
 Family business - selling homemade food such as prawn crackers and biscuits
 Attended primary school at 11 years of age
 IN 1965 - father died at the age of 51 - Susilo quit university and took responsibility of
10 younger siblings and his mother

Establishment of Sekar group - 


 1966 - Father’s friend gave money to buy and deliver some pomfret and threadfin to
singapore
 With his father’s friend's help he hired 5 workers, rented a warehouse and
established Harry Susilo Pvt. ltd.
 2 years later - Japanese businessman - Mr. kikuchi from Toyo Menka Company
offered Susilo to become agent of Toyo Menka
 1968 - Harry Susilo Pvt. Ltd. renamed as Sekar Pvt. Ltd.
 3 years later, Toyo Menka and Sekar Pvt. Ltd. opened joint venture known as PT
Sekar Bumi to build cold freezer facilities that went public in 1993
 1980 - Sekar Pvt. Ltd. started shipping partially processed shrimp chips to Japan’s
Marubeni Corporation
 1990 - Sekar Pvt. Ltd. become Sekar Group - expand gradually towards Prawn
Cracker processing
 Sekar Group became the largest prawn cracker in Indonesia and prawn cracker
supplier globally
 The Sekar group was involved in breeding, planting, animal feed, logistics, trading,
real estate, tourism and nickel processing.

Social Responsibility - 
 Sekar Group established small to medium sized food processing companies in
collaboration with civil society and co-operatives
 Created more than 24000 jobs to farmers
 1970 - invested in cashew nut business - but was not much profitable - distributed
free seeds to farmers and improved their livelihood
 Serve local communities by donating in schools and providing scholarships
 Made multiple donation Singapore Indian Development association and - 2007 -
sponsored the construction of retirement center - Bukit Timah Singapore
 He was elected to the group for ‘promoting the restoration of Diplomatic Relations’
 Won 2 Upakarti Award in 1987 and 1991
 Won Upapradhana in 1992
 Received highest honor for 4 consecutive year
 1995- appointed as consultant to ‘Association of Indonesia- China Economic, social
and Cultural Relations”
 2008 - donation to relief fund for earthquake in Wenchuan, China
 2008 - Contribution to Beijing Summer Olympics
 2009 - appointed to the China Overseas Exchange association (COEA)
 2014 - Sekar group build Monumen Jayandaru (prawn cracker monument) which was
inaugurated on May 29, 2015

About susilo - 
 Married Hui Qin Cai 
 He was like a mentor, guardian and motivator to his siblings
 Susilo supported his siblings in life, education and work considering it as “investment
in love”
 Susilo always encouraged his siblings to contribute to company and later divided his
50% share among his 4 siblings who joined susilo Group
 He was the source of encouragement and was the role model for his family because
his experience was extensive and unique
 His devotion to principled leadership led to the foundation of Susilo Institute for Ethics
in Global Economy as the center for education and research in 2014
