Project 2: EEE 300 (Fall 2020)

Design a Burglar Alarm System for a single storied shopping mall of 2500 square feet
which can hold up to 200 customers at a time. A total of 20 different shops are there in the mall
and about 40 staff members are employed in these shops. It has a dessert and beverage cart
near the entrance, staff waiting room for male and female employees, 2 washrooms for male
and female customers and 2 others for male and female staff and an external room containing
a generator.

The assignment will address the following Course Outcomes of EEE 300 –

CO3: Design electrical building service systems subject to specifications and constraints considering applicable
standards and codes.
CO4: Prepare and present basic technical documentation of a new building services system.

CO5: Consider safety and societal issues in design of electrical service systems for buildings.

The students are expected to perform the following tasks under this assignment –

 Prepare a basic floorplan of the shopping mall in AutoCAD.

 Design the system with proper equipments for intruder detection, burglar alarm,
protection and safety.
 Identify the possible locations of security breach.
 Compare among different types of detectors, alarms and protection equipments.
Choose the suitable tools and give proper explanation for your choice.
 Mention brand and important specifications of all the major components.
 Construct a block diagram showing the working procedure of the entire system.
 Give a detailed tabulation sheet showing the types and numbers of equipments
required in each section of the shopping mall.

Each group will consist of 5 members and prepare a presentation on the project. Soft copy of
the presentation slide in PPT format must be uploaded in google classroom within December
28, 2020. No change can be made in the slides after submission.

Requirements for the Presentation

a. Presentation time or each group is 5 minutes.
b. Soft copy of presentation slide must be submitted to google classroom before
presentation.
c. Presentation should start with a brief introduction stating the objective of the
assignment and the description of the problem. The course outcomes being addressed
must be mentioned.
d. Technical design including the following points should be elaborated –
i. Selection of intruder detection system
ii. Selection of burglar alarm and central control system
iii. Safety measures
iv. Block diagram of the designed system
e. Brand, model and important specs of each component
Tips for the Presentation
 Presentation must demonstrate the attainment of the performance indicators as
described in the Rubrics table.
 Slides should not contain too much texts or calculation steps. The slides should appeal
to the audience primarily visually.
 Everything you show must serve the purpose of establishing your point. Do not include
any image or any information that is not directly relevant to your work.
 Do not read out either from the slides or from a note.
 Video must be ON during presentation.
 Time must be maintained strictly. Presentation must stop after 5 minutes.
 Be prepared for tough Q/A session. Every team member is responsible for knowing
every step of the work.
