TECHNOLOGY IN THE 21ST CENTURY

(T. Subia)
Technology has been very rampant in this generation. People of all ages would use it for
several purposes.
Filipino children use mobile and computer technology in their daily lives for numerous
activities including surfing the net, playing DOTA, Mobile Legends and other computer games,
logging into Facebook, Twitter, Instagram and other social networking sites, and doing homework, the
question of how this can affect their well-being and lifestyle becomes even more relevant in the present
time. There are studies which identify the positive and negative effects that could possibly arise from
the early exposure of Filipino children to these technologies specifically in the areas: physical, social
and educational. It follows that the current trend also evaluates the advantages and disadvantages of
computer exposure tackled and recommended use of such devices.
More often than not, positive effects on physical well-being associated with mobile and
computer technology are not direct results of their actual use, but are brought about when these gadgets
are utilized as a medium by programs and software dedicated to promoting overall physical wellness.
Example of which are activity promoting, gaming systems and mobile games that promote healthy
eating. (Tatel, 2014)

SOLILOQUY
Excerpt from Romeo and Juliet
Act 2 Scene 2 Lines 3-18

But, soft! what light through yonder window breaks?

It is the east, and Juliet is the sun.
Arise, fair sun, and kill the envious moon,
Who is already sick and pale with grief,
That thou her maid art far more fair than she:
Be not her maid, since she is envious;
Her vestal livery is but sick and green
And none but fools do wear it; cast it off.
It is my lady, O, it is my love!
O, that she knew she were!
She speaks yet she says nothing: what of that?
Her eye discourses; I will answer it.
I am too bold, ’tis not to me she speaks:
Two of the fairest stars in all the heaven,
Having some business, do entreat her eyes
To twinkle in their spheres till they return.
