Module 8 : Fluid and Solids

Course Title : Physics for Engineers
Course Number : Physics for Engineers 211
Course Description : This course provides students with a clear and logical
presentation of the basic concepts and principles of
physics through a broad range of interesting real-world
application.
Total Learning Time : 5 units (4 units lecture, 1 unit laboratory)
Pre-requisites : Calculus 1

Overview:

In this module, it will discuss the basic principles of fluids

Learning Outcomes:

At the end of this module, the student should be able to:

1. Have a working knowledge to describe what is meant by the pressure in the fluid and
how it is measured.
2. Have a working knowledge how to use Bernoulli’s equation to relate pressure and flow
speed at different points in certain types of flow.
3. To solve problems that involve fluids.

Indicative Content:

This modules discusses the following: State of Matter; Density and Pressure; Variation of
Pressure with Depth; Pressure Measurements; Buoyant Forces and Archimedes’ Principle;
Fluid in Motion; Bernoulli’s Equation; Other Applications of Fluid Dynamics; Surface
Tension, Capillary Action, and Viscous Fluid Flow; Poiseuille’s Law; Reynold’s Number.
