II. Shape up your Mind.

1. Differentiate functional art and function of art. Cite example.

Art developed for use, meant to fulfill a purpose, and with an aesthetic in
mind is referred to as functional art. It's art that serves a purpose while also being
designed creatively to display beauty and furniture is the best example and used
interchangeably to denote objects ranging from tables and chairs, to beds, sofas,
lighting, screens, dressers, and even bathroom fixtures. While Art as Function is
art performs a social function when; 1) It influences the collective behavior of
people; 2) It is created to be seen or used primarily in public situations; and 3) It
expresses or describes collective aspects of existence as opposed to individual
and personal kinds of experience. This is a common function of the creative
industries, such as film and video games. Traditional art, such as certain
paintings and sculptures, is, of course, intended to be enjoyed.

2. Differentiate direct functional and indirect functional art. Cite example.

Functional art refers to aesthetic things that fulfill utilitarian needs,
occupying the liminal region between fine art and ordinary life. Everything from
furniture and lighting to dishes and even literature falls within this genre's
umbrella. The INDIRECT function gives you a range reference. This function can
be used to generate a reference that will not change if new rows or columns are
added to the worksheet. Use it to generate a reference from letters and numbers
in other cells, or use it to make a reference from letters and numbers in other
cells.

3. Why is art a mimesis? Cite an example to elaborate the meaning.

Mimesis in art refers to an artist's tendency to imitate or copy another
artist's style, technique, form, content, or any other feature of their work. Erich
Auerbach popularized the concept in his work Mimesis: The Representation of
Reality in Western Literature. The concept is that art should mirror nature. Every
work of art is a representation of either nature or other works of art. The
representation of reality is a Platonic worldview in which the world we live in is
merely a pale image of the "true" universe, or reality. Artists become further
detached from the real world the more they mimic other artists.

4. Does art always have a function? Cite and example.

The role of the arts is always there, but it cannot be ascribed because the
function of an art form is dependent on its surroundings. However, knowing who
the artist was and what genre it belongs to is the simplest method to determine
its function. Art's functions might be classified as personal, physical, or social.
When classifying art forms, it's important to keep in mind that they exist in very
specific situations. Whether a piece of art has been around for centuries or is
brand new, it is functional in some way—all art exists for a purpose, and these
reasons are what make up the functions of art.

5. If artwork did not have any function, will it still be called an art?
The task generates ideas, growth, and learning as a result of completing
the work in a specific way. The most significant difference is that design must
serve a purpose. Art can't exist for any other cause than to be watched or
otherwise experienced. Design, on the other hand, necessitates a purpose. It
may be deemed art if the design is visually appealing.

III. React to the following statements.

1. Small is beautiful.
Enjoy the little things. I always remind myself to be grateful for the simple
things in life. They are the most beautiful thing in the sense that they teach us that
simple things make a big difference. The little things are the biggest things and
definitely the best things.
2. The philosophy of art is closely related to aesthetics.
Art philosophy, which is concerned with the essence of art and the
concepts used to understand and assess individual works of art. Aesthetics is a
discipline of philosophy that studies art and aesthetic experience from a
conceptual and theoretical standpoint. ... One concentration is on a certain type
of practice, activity, or item, such as the practice of art, the activities of making
and enjoying art, or the various objects that are works of art.

3. Beauty is in the eye of the beholder.

One must believe oneself beautiful in order to have the self-esteem to
thrive in life. It's insane how much time and money people waste trying to be
beautiful. It takes very little effort to attempt to be yourself, and you can impress
others with your unique qualities. Confidence creates positive first impressions,
which lead to relationships. The truth that no one is perfect, despite what some
may believe, leads to adaption of one's shortcomings. Beauty is subjective, and
everyone has their own view on what defines beauty.

4. All that exist on earth are but just a shadow of our imagination.
It was a magical, visionary experience that you might conjure up in your
divine imagination. Everything we see and feel is a product of our imagination.
Everything you know and see is simply a confusion of badly oriented mirrors, and
you are nothing more than a figment of a dream's imagination.

5. Art is an expression of one’s feelings.

Art is frequently created in order to inspire and connect with human
emotion. Artists may create feelings, religious beliefs, curiosity, interest,
identification with a group, memories, thoughts, or creativity in order to inspire
their audience in some way. Using dance, music, or art to express yourself is a
type of nonverbal communication that inspires others and allows others to
perceive someone for who they truly are, in their purest form. It is, in some ways,
a type of breathing.

IV. Essay
Write an essay consisting of 150-300 words on the topic “My Concept of Beauty”.
This essay will be collected by the teacher for grading. The best three (3) essays will be
read in class.

An aesthetically pleasant attribute of an object or a person is what the word

"beauty" means. When used to a person, the word "beautiful" has a unique strong
appeal. It indicates that the speaker finds the character or physical appearance of the
individual to be attractive. The concept of beauty is frequently regarded as subjective.
However, everyone's idea of beauty is distinct because everyone has their own point of
view and because everyone is different, they cannot all appreciate the same things. It
also relies on the person's degree of development and their culture.

Every human being on the planet is unique, with their own set of experiences,
views, and ideals. Each individual has a unique and complex identity that is impossible
to categorize using any means available. Many people overlook the fact that not only a
gorgeous body, but also a beautiful soul, plays a vital role. It is impossible to have a lot
of gorgeous clothes and forget that we are all human at the same time. It's also hard to
say that one person is superior to the other. This is not the case. We are all unique,
which is a wonderful thing because if we were all the same, we would not want to
improve ourselves and would not desire to change our lives.
