GUIDELINES TO MAKE ANNOUNCEMENTS:

At IndiGo, we ensure that the experience of our passengers is consistent and


standardized. For this we lay emphasis on clear and effective communication.
Announcements form an integral part of our communication with passengers. It thus
becomes imperative to keep the following points in mind:

Smile - A cheerful and pleasant disposition adds energy and enthusiasm to your voice.
So, please always smile while making announcements.  it makes you look
approachable too.it adds to

Confidence - Being familiar with every announcement conveys your level of


confidence. A confident person owns his space.

Voice projection - Ensuring that the volume is not too loud or too low for the
announcement to be audible:
- Do not breathe into the Microphone
- Ensure that you keep your head up, while making announcements.
- Please remember, any sound made in the vicinity of the Mic. will also be heard.
Therefore, the staff should avoid talking in the area, while announcements are
being made.
- Keep the micrphone in a steady position and at an adequate distance i.e. about
1-2 inches or three lines vertically held, away from your mouth.

Diction - Clarity in speech requires clear and correct pronunciation of words. The
speech should be neutral i.e. devoid of any MTI (Mother Tongue Influence).

Pace and Pauses - Speak slowly and clearly. Avoid rushing through the
announcements. To convey the right meaning pause at the right places. Pause after
every sentence ending.

Voice Modulation - A well-modulated voice, which has rhythm and a varied intonation
pattern that is pleasing to the ears. For this, stressing on the right word is essential.

Uniformity - To ensure uniformity, it is necessary to read announcements verbatim as


published. However, at no point in time should the announcements sound
bookish/scripted, bored/monotonous or robotic.
Impactful - For impactful announcements, please ensure that you articulate well. The
announcements should be fluent without considerable or abrupt breaks in between.

Body Language – It is a type of non-verbal communication to express or convey


information. A positive body language conveys your message even before you speak.
It’s advisable to have positive body language when in public view.

1) Eye contact – Eye contact generates a connection of trust between a


customer and staff. It’s a positive way of connecting with you audience.

2) Gestures – Gestures can communicate a variety of messages. It’s in our


hand how we use them to our advantage to make our communication
stronger.

3) Posture – Correct standing posture makes you look confident and enhances
the announcement quality. Following points need to be kept in mind for
Correct standing postures :
a) Chin parallel to ground
b) Shoulders down and relaxed
c) Back straight
d) Abdomen in
e) Feet together
f) Hands in front with open palms

4) Approachability – it’s very important to portray approachability in our body


language which will in turn help the customer to feel at ease and welcomed.
