User Requirements Specification (URS)

1-Purpose
to quickly deliver sufficient water to douse a fire before it has a chance to spread. And maintain enough
pressure to keep the water flowing.

2- System description
A fire pump is a device that provides the required water flow and pressure for a fire protection system. The fire pump
unit itself consists of a pump, a drive, a driver coupling connecting the two, and a base plate. Fire pumps are normally
purchased as a complete package that includes the following:
● Pump accessories (electric drive): Including automatic air release valve, pressure gauges (suction and discharge),
circulation relief valve, and hose header complete with hose valves for outdoor use or flow meter
● Fire pump controller with remote pump panel: Including power transfer switch (where required)
● Pump accessories (diesel drive): Including automatic air release, pressure gauges (suction and discharge), fuel tank
with support legs, fuel system connections, hose header complete with hose valves for outdoor use or flow meter,
main relief valve, and waste cone (open or closed)
● Pressure maintenance pump: Including casing relief valve
3- Requirements
Pump selection:
The choice of a fire pump depends entirely on the infrastructure and the area of the building, as it requires electricity or oil
generation to a large extent, as the electric pumps that depend on electricity in their operation operate with a power estimated
at more than 460 volts, while the diesel fire pump in the system needs It operates to approximately 4 liters per 0.75 kW.
Pump location:
The location of the fire pump must be planned in advance, as most buildings need a fire pump in the event of any emergency,
taking into account placing it in an easily accessible location within a short period, and it should be noted that the room or place
designated for the fire pump Completely empty of any equipment or tools that do not belong to the pump, or that are
combustible, such as water heaters that depend on fuel in its operation, except for equipment for distributing water to the
building, such as water tanks, or water pumps.
Pump size:
It must be proportional to the size of the pump and the place designated for it, in order to fit the pump operating equipment .
provide passage:
A fireproof corridor should be designated as a suspended staircase or an external corridor, in order to facilitate access to the fire
pump when it is not accessible from inside the building, so a door must be added to match the size of the largest piece of
equipment for the pump.
Ventilation:
The location of the pump should be selected according to good ventilation; This is to keep the pump heating temperature at
least 4°C.
water drain:
To drain the water generated by the pump's vital equipment.

Providing operating equipment:

Care must be taken to secure the components for operating the pump, such as water and electricity, in addition to taking care
to prevent any interruption that may result from fire or any natural and unnatural disasters.
Additional pump mode:
It is necessary to add a fire pump to the side corridors of the building, if there is a weakness in the main water supply line.
Put an additional tank:
The pump must be equipped with a non-pressurized water tank, in case the water supply system in the pump is insufficient
