PROBLEM # 1 (20 marks)

A uniform wheel of radius R rolls without slipping on an inclined plane. Concentric with
the wheel, and fixed to it, is a drum of radius r. The drum is fastened to a spring, of
stiffness k, as shown. The total mass of the wheel/drum assembly is M and its moment of
inertia about the axis through the centre of the wheel O is = (1⁄2) . The wheel is
displaced a small angular displacement from its equilibrium position and released.
