General objectives:
1. Learners will come to know the facts and principles of science and its
applications, consistent with the stage of cognitive development.
2. Learners will be able to acquire the skills and understand the methods and
processes that lead to generation and validation of scientific knowledge.
3. Learners will be able to develop a historical and developmental perspective
of science and to enable her to view science as social enterprise.
4. Learners will be able to relate to the (natural environment, artifacts and
people), local as well as global and appreciate the issues at the interface of
science, technology and society.
5. Learners will acquire the requisite theoretical knowledge and practical
technological skills to enter the world of work.
6. Learners will nurture the natural curiosity, aesthetic sense and creativity in
science and technology.
7. Learners will imbibe the values of honesty, integrity, cooperation, concern
for life and preservation of environment,
8. It will cultivate ‘scientific temper’- objectivity, critical thinking and freedom
from fear from prejudice.
Specific Objective
The student will be able to:
Determine which materials are magnetic and which are not.
Observe that magnets have two sides—north and south.
Predict the motion of magnets, based on knowledge that they
repel and attract.
Describe the basics of magnetism and magnetic poles.
Previous Knowledge
The students should be able to:
recall the basic functions of a magnet.
Visualize the materials those are attracted to magnet
List few uses of magnet.
Introduction: -
Q- As we know magnets creates a force that can ______ some objects?
EA- Attracts
Q- What kind of objects do they attracts?
EA- Object which are made up of iron.
Q- And what kind of object they don’t attract?
EA- Objects that are not made up of irons such as plastics, wood, etc.

1. Materials PPT, Activity Activity
Use your magnets and try to stick it
on the materials around you. What
are the materials where your
magnets remain stucked, Name
them?
Summary
Materials like Iron, Cobalt, Nickel
which gets attracted towards a
magnet are called magnetic
material, each have some
components of iron.
Observation
The tip pointing towards the
geographical south is known as its
south pole. The tip pointing towards
the geographical north is known as
the north pole.
Summary
Magnetic poles are the tips of a
magnet and contain the highest
magnetic strength. When a magnet
is freely suspended, the tips point
towards the north and south.
Conclusion
(1) When we place two magnets in
such a way that the north pole of
one magnet faces the north pole of
other magnet, they repel (push
away) each other. Similarly, when
the two magnets are placed near
each other in such a way that south
pole of one magnet faces the south
pole of the other magnet, even then
they repel (push away) each other.
Since north-north poles and south-
south poles are like poles, we can
say that like poles (or similar poles)
repel each other.
Recap-
What are the 4 properties of magnets that we studied till now are?
Home Work
Q- Q- What will happen to your magnet if it brakes
into half?
