General objectives:
1. Learners will come to know the facts and principles of science and its
applications, consistent with the stage of cognitive development.
2. Learners will be able to acquire the skills and understand the methods and
processes that lead to generation and validation of scientific knowledge.
3. Learners will be able to develop a historical and developmental perspective
of science and to enable her to view science as social enterprise.
4. Learners will be able to relate to the (natural environment, artifacts and
people), local as well as global and appreciate the issues at the interface of
science, technology and society.
5. Learners will acquire the requisite theoretical knowledge and practical
technological skills to enter the world of work.
6. Learners will nurture the natural curiosity, aesthetic sense and creativity in
science and technology.
7. Learners will imbibe the values of honesty, integrity, cooperation, concern
for life and preservation of environment,
8. It will cultivate ‘scientific temper’- objectivity, critical thinking and freedom
from fear from prejudice.

Specific Objective
The student will be able to:
 Define Magnet
 Differentiate between Natural magnets and Artificial Magnets
 Explain How Artificial Magnets are Made
 Differentiate between Parment Magnet and Temporary Magnet
 Describe the mechanism and function of electromagnet

Previous Knowledge
The students should be able to:
 recall the basic functions of a magnet.
 Visualize the materials those are attracted to magnet
 List few uses of magnet.

Introduction: -
Q- Have you seen a magnet?
EA- Yes
Q- What have you done with it?
EA- Played
with the help of movie character shown in the ppt I will ask few
questions.
Q- From the scenes shown in the PPT can you recall the name of this
character and which movie is it?
EA- Magneto from X-Man
Q- What kind of superpower does he have?
EA- Magnetic Power
Q- What can he do with his power.
EA- Controls Metals.
Q- What kind of metals are those?
EA- Iron

Summarized by the teacher-

 Magneto can control metals like iron, steel, nickel and cobalt
because he is the mutant who is born with magnetic power within
him. A magnet is an object which attracts things made of iron,
steel, nickel and cobalt.

Deceleration of the topic

Today in this topic we will study Magnet, how it was discovered, what
are the different types of magnets, how we can develop our own
magnets. we will also discuss permanent magnets and temporary
magnets here we will discuss a few permanent and temporary magnets
like an electromagnet.

Presentation
Key Concepts Instructional Methodology
aids
1. History PPT, Story Bord Story
Magnet was discovered by an
ancient Greek shepherd; named
Magnes. Once; while he was fiddling
with his stick, the metallic end of the
stick got stuck with the rocks.

Q- Why did his stick got stuck on the

rock?
EA- The rock had some magnetic
property.

Summary-
Actually, the rock was a natural
magnet that attracted the iron end
of the Magnus stick. this Rock which
behaved like a magnet was given
the name magnetite. magnetite
Rock contains iron
2. Natural & Natural magnets are those magnets
Artificial Magnets Explanation, Ppt, which are already magnetic in
photos, from there nature and are available naturally in
experiences our environment.

Q Do you think such magnets will

have any shape?
EA- No

Summary
These magnets don’t have any
shape they are extracted as an ore
from earth like Magnetite.

Artificial magnets are those magnets

that are made by peoples by using
motels like iron, nickel steal, cobalt
or alloys that contain iron in it.

Q- Can you list few examples that

you can see around you?
EA- Bar magnet, Horse shoe
magnets, etc.

Summary
These Magnets can be made in any
shapes for example bar magnet,
horse shoe magnet, magnetic
needle, ball ended magnet, circular
magnet.
3. How Artificial Discussion, Q- Why only artificial magnets can
Magnets are Explanation with be made by us why natural magnets
Made? the help of cannot be made?
diagrams, photos
Activity EA- Because natural magnets are
present in nature and formed by
nature

Summary
Natural magnets like magnetite
which is actually an ore of iron are
found inside the earth it already
contains magnetic ability but we can
make artificial magnets like bar
magnets etc. Steps to make artificial
magnets are-
 Rub the rod with a piece of
metal that is already
magnetized.
 Hang the bar vertically and hit
it repeatedly with a hammer.
The magnetizing effect is
stronger if you heat the rod.

4. Parment Discussion, artificial magnets are of two types

Magnet & Explanation, permanent and Temporary.
Temporary pictures
Magnet Permanent magnets are those
magnets that are commonly used.
They are known as permanent
magnets because they do not lose
their magnetic property once they
are magnetized.
Q can you list few examples.
EA- Bar Magnet, Horse Shoe
Magnet, etc.

Temporary magnets are those

magnets that once made remains as
magnet only for short period of
time.

Eg- ElectroMagnet

Q- Have you seen the bell which

rings every time when your period is
over?
EA- Yes
Q- how does it work?
EA- it works on electricity, when the
person switch on the bell it ranges.

Summary
An electric bell is an electromagnet,
An electromagnet is a temporary
magnet which behaves like a
magnet when an electric current is
passed through the insulated copper
wire and loses its magnetism when
current is stopped. It has a soft iron
piece called the core with an
insulated copper wire wound on it.
That’s how the bell rings.

Recap-
Q- What is lodestone?
EA- Lodestone is a type of iron. It bears the properties of magnet.
Q- What are the properties of a magnet?
EA- It attracts iron pieces towards itself.
It always aligns itself in the same direction, if left to rotate freely.
It is composed of oxides of iron (Fe3O4).

Home Work
Q- List some examples of magnetic and
nonmagnetic materials by observing them
practically with the help of at your home.
