IS 1893:2002 records the following formula for moment resisting RC frame building with no infill panel.
Ta = 0.075 h0.75
IS 1893:2002 records the following formula for moment resisting RC frame building with infill panel:
Ta = 0.09h/d0.5
d is base dimensions.
Ta = Ct h0.75
Ct = 0.75/Ac0.5
To make comparative study of period formula of different national and international codes. Time period
obtained from various code is plotted against height of the building.
To design RC frame model of various plans and height and observe their elastic time period by response
spectrum method.
Obtained time period is analysed and a period formula is evaluated from the study.
Fundamental period of the building depends on lateral stiffness and seismic mass of the building. Fundamental
period is the basis of the for calculation of bas shear of the building. Base shear is used for seimic design of
structure. Cutinha and Karanth(2018) found that column dimension and it's orientation also effects the time
period significantly. Velani and Ranancharla(2017) observed that the given empirical formula over estimate the
time period for tall building (>20storey). Hence, need in the modification of existing empirical formula is required.
Compression strut representing infill stiffness of solid infill panel is to placed concentrically across diagonal of the
frame, forming concentrically braved system. Thickness and elastic modules is same as the masonry infill. Effective
width is is given as follows according FEMA 356-
Design
Steps
The study is carried put with the help of SAP2000 software. RC frame model is analysed in three different stages.
2.Evaluation of time period of RC frame model with infill walls. Infill walls are modeled using equivalent strut
model method given in FEMA356.
3.Time period of a RC frame model with infill load but without using compression strut is evaluated.
