Questions 1 - 3 refer to the following article:
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE:
Studies say that the new e-reader model is easier on the arms.
Frankfurt, Germany - November 18, 2013. - The PPR120 is a revolutionary new e-
reader that experts say is easier and actually more beneficial for readers to hold than
previous models.
Lin Manufacturing has always manufactured a variety of electronic devices, but began
providing e-readers over the past few years.
According to a recent study conducted by graduates at the Humboldt University of
Berlin, the new e-reader positions the readers’ arms in such a way that it benefits the
spine.
This is in part due to the curvature of the device. “When readers hold the device in the
right place, it relaxes the deltoid muscles and lessens pressure on the upper spine,”
remarks Atish Jai, scientist and graduate of Humboldt University of Berlin.
There has been a recent surge in sales of the PPR120 over the past two months.
Customers have given 98% positive feedback on the popular review website:

To: Customer Services at Puddle Jumper Boots
From: gstar56@aol.com
Sent: March 18, 2014 at 8:00PM
Subject: Damaged Boots
To whom it may concern,
I recently bought a pair of your rain boots and they have been damaged after a very
short period of use. The boots were purchased in Shanghai, China at a store called In
Playground in the Huaihai shopping district. I checked your website for the products
information on the boots, which is as follows:
- Name: Helios Rain Boots
- Product ID number: 99998191A
- Color: Black
- Size: 35 women’s

There are four breaks in the seams of both boots that allow water to get inside. With
constantly soaked feet, I am concerned that I could get a skin infection. I would like a
full refund or replacement boots. I do not have a receipt, but I expect that something
can be done about the boots. I hope this not a problem because I did not think I had to
worry about my boots falling apart so rapidly after the point of purchase. I have only
heard good things about Puddle Jumper boots and I didn't think I would need to have
them replaced after such a short amount of time. I am really disappointed about this
and I would really like to solve this problem as soon as possible. Thank you for your
time. I hope you can stand behind your products.

Sincerely,
Tamicah Brandanowitz

Hi Tamicah,
It is with regret that we hear you have experienced difficulties with your boots. Please
could you send us some photos of the damaged boots, as they would be very helpful
for us to get a better understanding of the situation, and to provide you with better
assistance. Also, please provide the purchase certificate or receipt for validation
purposes to prove that you did actually purchase the boots from our store, instead of
any other unauthorized distributors, which are common in China. If you don't have the
receipt or purchase certificate, may I please suggest you get in touch with your credit
card company? If the purchase was made under your credit card, you should be able
to retrieve the record of the transaction, and that should suffice for verification. Again,
we are sorry for any inconveniences this may have caused, and thank you for your
support.
Best regards

against each other. Now, in Fight for Glory 2, the plot takes a darker turn when Akira
pits the fighters against each other in a series of fight-to-the-death battles for his own

Subject: Membership package

Dear Muddy Dog Outdoor Gear Customer Service,

I know this is rare to receive a letter like this in customer service (I know, because I
employed in the same industry), but that is how satisfied I am with being a member of
Muddy Dog Outdoor Gear. I have always been a huge fan of your brand. I love to
travel and do anything outside. Whether it is hiking, camping, climbing or rafting, I
am into it. I partake in these activities whenever I have a chance, but it can get terribly
expensive. That is why I choose your brand, because it is affordable and reliable. I
still have a Muddy Dog backpack from ten years ago that has been on numerous
backpacking trips and is still in great condition. So, when I found out that you had a
rewards program, I knew I had to jump on that bandwagon. I received my
membership package just three days after it had been shipped. Then, I received an
email with discount coupons and ideas to get rewards that I could use after becoming
a member. I have already used two of the coupons. I bought things that I needed for
camping trips. I will continue spreading the word about your brand to friends and
family. I have already posted many great things about your company in online product
discussion different forums. You’re a brand that I believe in and will continue to buy
from. Thank you so much for allowing me to be able to go on my adventures with
equipment I can depend on for a long time.

Questions 28 - 32 refer to the following article
Hello Jeremy,
This is Roberto Billington. I spoke to you on the phone previously about reserving the
date, January 22, 2014, for my birthday. Sorry that I missed your follow-up call last
week, and I haven't been able to get back to you sooner.
I have been busy and I have been traveling for business. Email is the best way to
contact me. I still would like to book Ernst Goes to Jazz for my birthday, but the price
is one thing I would like to negotiate. I am afraid that the highest I can go is $3,000. I
hope this will be sufficient, but I did notice that you represented other bands in the
Southeast.
In the event that Ernst Goes to Jazz feels that my offer is too low, I would love to hear
a few bands located closer to the Columbia area that fall within my budget, but still
have a comparable sound to Ernst Goes to Jazz. I understand if they can't go lower,
but if they can, how much? I will be able accommodate the band at a hotel, as well as
provide a meal for them before the party. I look forward to hearing from you soon.

Sincerely,
Roberto Billingtion
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Hi Roberto,
Thanks for your reply.
Here's what I need from you in order to help you find a suitable band for your
upcoming celebration:
Mailing address
Venue Address
Best phone number to be reached (this is for when it gets MUCH closer to the date)
Do you need them to provide their own sound system?
If you can answer these questions, I can give you a better idea of the actual cost for
your birthday. Since you are offering rooms and meals, this might be something that
could work and we can get the cost down for you. Let me run it by the band, and I'll
get back to you. There's always room to negotiate. If they can't budge too much on the
price, I will get a list together of bands near your area for you to listen to and decide if
you like. I can provide you with CDs by mail or links to YouTube videos, whatever
you prefer. If, on the other hand, Ernst Goes to Jazz is satisfied with your price, then
we will get a contract together for you to look over and sign.
Thanks, and looking forward to hearing back from you.

To the owner of Mojito Bob’s,

I did this survey not because I wanted to tell you that your food was bad. I am writing
you this because of what I witnessed at your restaurant. What I saw definitely affected
the experience that I had at your restaurant. Like I put above, your food was not bad
and my order was correct. As for some of your employees, they did some things that
disgusted me. These employees are the reasons that I have decided I will never
frequent your establishment again. They didn’t even try to hide it most of the time. I
saw one employee purposely place a piece of trash on a cooked meal. Another
employee dropped some food on the floor then picked it back up and put it on the
plate. Also, one of your employees was noticeably drunk and kept running into tables.
If this is what your employees are doing out in the open, I do not want to know what
is going on in the back of the house. I hope you will do something about this at once.

Subject: Evaluation Survey
Dear valued customer,
After reading your review of our restaurant, I am very surprised about what you saw.
Please accept my sincerest apologies on behalf of the restaurant staff at Mojito Bob’s.
I hope we can convince you to come to our restaurant again. We do not take these
surveys lightly. We always take into consideration what our customers think. That is
why I am very sad that you witnessed this in our restaurant. We always try to make
sure we hire people that will take our rules seriously, but this cannot always be
apparent when we are hiring. If you don’t mind, can you give us information about
these employees so we can question them? We don’t want to fire people that are
innocent. So, if you could please send a description of these people this would be
helpful. We want to do our best at remedying this situation, so it is of utmost
importance that the guilty workers be let go as soon as possible. I promise this is not
something we condone in our restaurant. We will do our best to correct this and
hopefully you will consider coming back to patronize our establishment. Thank you
for your feedback.

Sincerely,
Mia Stratford

Hi Kelly,
Sorry that you weren’t able to reach me on the phone number that I left with you. I
actually dropped my phone in the swimming pool on the first day of my holiday. I’m
using the hotel’s computer right now. If you need to get in touch with me regarding
any other emergencies this week, here is my hotel phone number:

+52 999 249 1110

room #341

If I’m not in the room, you can leave a callback number with the reception. Please
only call if it’s an emergency though. In regard to the incident you mentioned, I need
you to record everything that happened in a customer injury report form. You can find
this form in the following location on the computer in the back room: documents/in
store/report forms/customer injury report. Print off a copy and fill it in to the best of
your memory.
Do NOT give a copy to the customer as per their request. Do not even let them see the
report. Please inform him that all future procedures must be done through a lawyer. It
sounds like what happened was just an accident, but that will not be for us to decide,
and you followed all the correct procedures in handling the incident. Do not apologize
to the customer, because that could be used if they want to claim that we were at fault.
I’ll see you in four days. Thanks for your hard work.

Dear Marcus Simpson,

Pursuant to your request dated March 12, 2009, we have conducted an investigation to
determine whether you have a valid claim that could be asserted against “Java Jive” in
regard to the injury sustained on February 28, 2009.
The results of our investigation indicate that there is no enforceable legal basis for
maintaining an action against “Java Jive”. The coffee shop in question has analyzed
their video surveillance material from the date of your injury and has demonstrated
that after the purchase of your coffee, you proceeded to add cream and sugar to it and
the condiment stand. This evidence demonstrates that the establishment is not
responsible for your injury.
Therefore, we are unable to proceed on your behalf. We urge you contact another
lawyer if you wish to have a second opinion. Enclosed please find all the original
documents that you have submitted to us.

Omar Kassab (14:11)
Nurrah, have you made your decision yet about whom to nominate for the office
director position?
Nurrah Wasem (14:12)
I’ve narrowed it down to two people, but to be honest, I still have some doubts about
both of them.
Omar Kassab (14:15)
OK, well, I’m going to need to know by Friday at the latest.
Shahidah Ghanem (14:27)
Can I step in and offer a suggestion?
Nurrah Wasem (14:30)
I’m all ears.
Shahidah Ghanem (14:31)
I understand that you were set on hiring internally. But if nobody seems to meet your
expectations, have you considered recruiting Wurud Said from our partner branch, Oil
Arabia, in Jeddah? She would be perfect for the job, since it’s almost exactly what she
does over there, and I’ve heard nothing but good things about her.
Omar Kassab (14:35)
I’m afraid that if we did that, we would run the risk of sparking a conflict with our Oil
Arabia. They are too valuable a partner. We don’t want to jeopardize our relationship.
Shahidah Ghanem (14:37)
I understand that. But here is what you may not know: Wurud just gave in her notice
at Oil Arabia. She is quitting for personal reasons. I believe her family is moving to
Riyadh.
Omar Kassab (14:37)
How do you know this?
Shahidah Ghanem (14:38)
She’s actually my cousin.
Omar Kassab (14:40)
I had no idea. Nurrah, what do you think?
Nurrah Wasem (14:42)
If it’s OK with you, I’m willing to give her a chance. I’d like to meet her before
Friday if that’s possible.
Shahidah Ghanem (14:43)
She won’t be moving until next week. How about setting up a video interview?
Nurrah Wasem (14:48)
That could work. Are you sure she is even interested in the position?
Shahidah Ghanem (14:50)
Yes, it was actually her who inquired about it in the first place.

Question 51.
What is Nurrah Wasem's problem?
(A) She isn't satisfied with either of the applicants for the office director position.
(B) She hasn't received any applications for the office director position.
(C) She can't decide which two people to hire for the new positions.
(D) She isn't prepared to give up her position as office director.

Question 52.
What is Shahidah Ghanem's suggestion?
(A) To recruit her for the position.
(B) To seek a position at Oil Arabia.
(C) To move to Riyadh.
(D) To hire externally.
Question 53.
How can we infer Omar Kassab feels about this suggestion after Shahidah Ghanem
explains it in detail?
(A) He can accept it.
(B) He is opposed to it.
(C) He doesn't want to cooperate with Oil Arabia.
(D) He doesn't want a woman to be hired.

Question 54.
What do we know about Wurud Said?
(A) She wants to work at the speakers' company.
(B) She wants to live in Jeddah.
(C) She has already been nominated by Nurrah Wasem.
(D) She is not experienced enough for the position.
