NARRATIVE REPORT ON READING PROGRAM

“BATA KA PA SA GITNA NG PANDEMYA
JANUARY 9, 2021

Introduction
Since its outbreak in late December 2019, COVID – 19 has wreaked
havoc across the world and like any critical sector, education has been hit hard.
Schools have been deeply impacted so as the teachers and the learners. Each
day, thousands of children do not go to school due to this present pandemic. The
outbreak has compounded the plight of learners and sadly, affected their reading
ability. We believed that despite this crisis, we should put a room to ensure the
right of each learner to education as it is vital to all.

Rationale
Reading is perhaps the most essential skill children learn in school,
failure to do it can lead to grade retention and might struggle throughout
schooling if not given the right attention. In line with the mission and vision of
the Department of Education, we conducted this “Bata Ka Pa sa Gitna Ng
Pandemya” program, where reading is very essential for the success of the
learning process in the type of modality we have these days.
So, we were glad that we conducted this Bata Ka Pa sa Gitna ng
Pandemya Program successfully with the help of the stakeholders residing at
Purok Lacturan, San Pedro District Pagadian City.
We started by identifying the children who are in need with our assistance
and contacted their parents. Our day spent with them was quite productive.
Indeed, all of us miss the actual classroom settings where children are taught
inside the classroom with their peers.
These are some photo opportunities we took during the conduct of our reading
program

Teaching simple words both English and Filipino after identifying letters and letter sounds.

We let the identified children, read individually so we will be guided and aware to the level they need
to learn.

Engaging parents in our activity so they will be given an insight on ways on how to teach reading to
their children at home.
Some of the screen captured video clips during the reading program. As teachers, it is a sort of reward
for us to have witnessed and experienced teaching these children at the comfort of their place.
