Allen Smithee is the name of a film director who made his first film in 1969. Since then, the
director, whose first name is sometimes spelt A-l-a-n, has made a lot of films. His films, which
are usually bad, include western and science fiction fantasies. But Allen Smithee isn’t a real
person – the name’s a pseudonym, which is a name that someone uses instead of their real
name. In Hollywood, where directors often argue with producers and studios, the name is used
by film directors that don’t want their name to be associated with a film they’ve made. The
popular films we watch on daytime TV are often heavily edited, which explains why Allen
Smithee’s name sometimes appears as the director.

In ancient Greek, there was a King named Midas. He had a loving wife and daughter. He had
lots of money and everything he needed but still he was not satisfied with what he had. He
wanted to have more and more riches.
One day, Midas saw that a satyr names Silenus was drunk and passed out in his garden. Midas
knew that satyrs always bring good luck so he brought him in and let him rest in his palace.
Silenus is a friend of Dionysus (God of whine and celebration). When Dionysus got to know
about Midas kindness toward his friend Silenus, he decided to reward him.
He asked Midas to wish for something. Midas had everything but yet he wanted more riches.
So, he said, “I wish everything I touch turns to gold.”
SABAM CHRISTO 8
Although Dionysus knew it was not a great idea but still he granted his wish and left.
Midas touched a thing nearby and it immediately turned into gold. Midas was happy that his
wish was granted. He went around his palace touching random things and turning them all of
those things into gold.
After sometime, he got hungry and took an apple to eat but to his surprise before he could
bite, the apple turned into shiny gold apple. After that he tried to eat other things but
everything he touched turned into gold.
His daughter was standing nearby and got sad and worried, she came to his father. Midas
went and hugged his daughter, before he could realize, his daughter was turned into a lifeless
golden statue.
Midas loved his daughter more than anything in this world. Aghast, Midas ran back to the
garden and called for Dionysus. He begged him to take away his powers.
Midas begged Dionysus to save his daughter. Dionysus felt pity for him and told him that if he
got to nearby river barefoot and bring pot filled with water back 100 times and pour it on his
daughter only then his daughter could be saved and everything could be turned back to normal.
Midas did same as it was told and saved his daughter. Midas learned his lesson and lived rest

Biologists think pufferfish, also known as blowfish, developed their famous “inflatability”
because their slow, somewhat clumsy swimming style makes them vulnerable to predators. In
lieu of escape, pufferfish use their highly elastic stomachs and the ability to quickly ingest
huge amounts of water (and even air when necessary) to turn themselves into a virtually
inedible ball several times their normal size. Some species also have spines on their skin to
make them even less palatable.
A predator that manages to snag a puffer before it inflates won’t feel lucky for long. Almost
all pufferfish contain tetrodotoxin, a substance that makes them foul tasting and often lethal
to fish. To humans, tetrodotoxin is deadly, up to 1,200 times more poisonous than cyanide.
SABAM CHRISTO 11
There is enough toxin in one pufferfish to kill 30 adult humans, and there is no known
antidote.
Amazingly, the meat of some pufferfish is considered a delicacy. Called fugu in Japan, it is
extremely expensive and only prepared by trained, licensed chefs who know that one bad cut
means almost certain death for a customer. In fact, many such deaths occur annually.
There are more than 120 species of pufferfish worldwide. Most are found in tropical and
subtropical ocean waters, but some species live in brackish and even fresh water. They have
long, tapered bodies with bulbous heads. Some wear wild markings and colors to advertise
their toxicity, while others have more muted or cryptic coloring to blend in with their
environment.
They range in size from the 1-inch-long dwarf or pygmy puffer to the freshwater giant
puffer, which can grow to more than 2 feet in length. They are scaleless fish and usually have
rough to spiky skin. All have four teeth that are fused together into a beak-like form.
