: LENIENCY IN INDULGING PUPILS WITH SMALL TALKS RESULTING IN INSUFFICIENT
Tajuk
TIME FOR LESSON

JURNAL
1. ISU YANG DIFOKUSKAN :
On 17th March 2021, I was not able to carry out thoroughly the second activity (Charades) that I have
planned. The lesson on that day was focusing on introducing present continuous tense to the pupils. The
first activity was successfully done. However, the pupils kept interjecting by sharing about their daily
activities or stories from home. This results in the time getting dragged until there was barely enough time
to do the Charades activity.

2. ANALISIS ISU YANG DIFOKUSKAN (PUNCA DAN KESAN ISU) :

It is obvious that the cause of such issue is my leniency with the pupils. It is commendable that the pupils
are very responsive and was highly participatory in the lesson but there should be a suitable limit to it.
Furthermore, it seems that the pupils have loosen up and grown accustomed to me, which probably
contributes to them seeking attention through sharing anecdotes about their daily live.

3. KAJIAN LAMPAU (LITERATURE REVIEW) TERHADAP ISU (PENGALAMAN ATAU KAJIAN LEPAS) :
Effective teachers have a clear strategy for Pupil management. A sense of order prevails in the classroom.
Pupils feel safe and secure. This pupil management strategy is a means to an end: allowing maximum time
for pupils to be focused on task, and thus maximising the learning opportunity. Effective teachers establish
and communicate clear boundaries for pupil behaviour. They exercise authority clearly and fairly from the
outset, and in their styles of presentation and engagement they hold the pupils’ attention. Inappropriate
behaviour is ‘nipped in the bud’ with immediate direct action from the teacher. They set clear expectations
of behaviour and for performance, and contract with pupils on these, setting clear boundaries for what is
acceptable. In this way they provide a clear framework, routines and security in which work can take place
(McBer, 2001).

4. CADANGAN DAN IDEA PENYELESAIAN MASALAH :

After much reflecting, I have come up with several possible solutions to this issue:
a) Being stricter with my instructions.
b) Once initiated with a conversation, I will try to keep the exchange short and direct the class to the
lesson at hand.
c) Set up a scenario wherein the pupils are only allowed a certain amount of time to talk or number of
miscellaneous questions when they want to ask or talk something aside from the things related to
the lesson.

5. TEMPOH MASA PENYELESAIAN :

1 Week

6. TINDAKAN SUSULAN :
In conjunction to this issue, I will work on being stricter with my pupils. There should be a clear line
between the pupils and the teacher because at the end of the day, the teacher is the one who control the
teaching and learning process, making sure the learning objectives to be achieved.

8. KEBERKESANAN LANGKAH YANG DICADANGKAN :

The intervention done had given a positive impact to the teaching and learning experience. This can be
seen by successfully achieving the learning objectives and the activities planned were able to be carried out
in its entirety. Admittedly, it is rather difficult to steer the conversation to an end once initiated. Therefore,
the more optimal solution is by setting a certain amount of time to talk or number of miscellaneous
questions when they want to ask or talk something aside from the things related to the lesson.

9. KESIMPULAN / REFLEKSI (KESAN TINDAKAN (PERLU) DAN HALANGAN (JIKA ADA) :

I feel satisfied that I was able to keep the pupils’ attention seeking at bay. I have consulted on this worry
beforehand to Madam Joanne and she was the one who gave the suggestion to only allow a certain
amount of time to talk or number of miscellaneous questions when they want to ask or talk something
aside from the things related to the lesson. It is good that the pupils are responsive to the lesson as well as
the teachers. However, they should know that seeing the teacher as a friend is not the ticket for them to
cross the line between a pupil and a teacher. There should be appropriate mutual respect between the
pupils and the teacher.
