2. PURPOSE
The purpose of this method statement is to define the fixing of the water stop in the sub structure concrete works
as per the manufacturer’s requirements and drawings, considering all the necessary safety and quality aspects of
the work activities.
3. SCOPE OF WORKS
This scope of works is for substructure concrete works in the project. (Basement with raft + UG water tank)

6. RESPONSIBILITIES
6.1. Project Manager
1. Ensure that the Project Works are carried out in accordance with Company policies & Project Quality Plan.
2. To ensure the full compliance of sub-contractors with the requirements of this Quality plan.
3. To ensure that all the required equipment to execute the works according to the construction program are
available, in good condition, and provide any additional equipment that might be required.
4. To co-ordinate with the Construction Manager, Project Engineer, Safety Engineer, Surveyor and Foreman for the
safe and proper execution of the works.

6.2.Construction Manager
1. Ensure the area is ready and safe to start the works.
2. Set up the required equipment and allocate required manpower through discussion with the Project Manager and
Project Engineer / Works Foreman.
3. Ensure the works are carried out according to the specification, quality plan, approved shop drawings and the
construction program.
4. Provide Risk Assessment for the works in hand.
5. Provide sufficient and safe access for operatives, trucks and pumps.
6. Ensure that all the works are carried out in accordance with approved procedures and drawings.

6.3.The Project Engineer


1. The Project Engineer shall carry out his duties in a manner that shall be coordinated by the Project Manager on a
daily basis with the relevant subcontractors.
2. Ensure proper distribution of workforce and equipment at required locations.
3. Ensure that the works are carried out according to the approved sequence and to inform the QC Engineer /
Inspector for the areas ready for inspection.

6.4. QA/QC Engineer / Inspector


1. Ensure that Consultant/ Client inspection requests are implemented.
2. Compilation of all necessary quality control check lists.
3. The control of work performance by means of checking the work before consultant’s inspection and issuing RFI’s,
punch lists and assisting consultant during the inspections.
4. Completion of documentation to verify the work performed.

5. Controlling all inspection activities on site in line with ITP’s.


6. Ensuring that all test equipment including surveying equipment is calibrated and suitable for use at site.

6.5. Surveyor
1. To establish bench marks from agreed reference points, provide required setting out and level markings and follow
up with regular checks.
2. Co-ordinate with Project Engineer and foreman to ensure the location of works carried out according to the
approved shop drawings/construction drawings.
3. Maintain survey details and report, periodically check the progressing works and notify the Project Manager if any
deviation from the drawings.

6.6. HSE Engineer/Officer


1. To ensure implementation of all safety measures related to the nature of works being carried out, and in
accordance with the Project Safety Plan.
2. To ensure all the persons involved in the works are aware of their responsibilities, and they have enough
understanding of the safety procedures.
3. The safety officer in coordination with Project Manager shall ensure that all the safety measures implemented are
effective enough to maintain safe working at site.
4. To maintain continuous inspection of site activities, advise and train persons on a daily basis to prevent accidents
and personal injury.
5. To ensure all the relevant safety sign boards for different works are in place, and to give special concern to
housekeeping, and ensure that the site is maintained clean & tidy.

6.7.Foremen/ Works Supervisor


1. Ensure the works are progressed in the sequence as agreed with the Project Manager.
2. Liaise with construction manager / project engineer for required plants/ materials and allocation of manpower.
3. Ensure with Project Engineer / QC Inspector the works are inspected and approved by Engineer prior to
proceeding with next stage of construction.

Note: Quantity of manpower, materials and equipment’s shall be submitted on the daily progress report.

8. PROCEDURE
8.1.General
Supercast Watafoil 250mm wide shall be used in raft at construction joints, in-fill strips, retaining walls, lift pits walls,
manhole to raft connections. All installation of Supercast PVC Water stop shall be in accordance to the manufacturer’s
recommendations attached.

8.2.Lift Pit
The lift pit consists of three lifts of concrete: the pile cap/lift pit bottom, the lift pit walls and the connection to the raft. The
waterbar shall be installed in each of the construction joints. 250mm Supercast Watafoil used in the wall lifts.

8.3.Manholes
Manhole shall be a precast element that shall be places in position, levelled, backfilled and ready for raft cast.250mm
Supercast Watafoil used in: the manhole base and wall between the wall and the raft. Note that in Stage 2 the wall ends
below the raft bottom level to accommodate the raft reinforcement steel.

8.4.Raft
The raft shall be cast in sections and pour strips. The following cases shall be encountered:

1. Raft shown above is cast in the centre of the building as in the case of. In such cases there are no retaining walls
or edges to consider the waterbar used is 250mm wide Supercast Rearguard R.

2. For in-fill strips 250mm wide Supercast Rearguard R shall be used as shown above.

8.5.The raft and the retaining wall.

Retaining walls shall have waterbar as shown above in figure. Supercast Rearguard R, 250mm wide shall be used in raft at
construction joints and in-fill strips. Note that in the water tank wall shown above waterbar is fixed at the top of the wall to be
cast into the basement slab.
The same shall be the case for the retaining wall if the external ground level is above the joint or there is a green
landscaped area above.

In retaining walls above Supercast Rearguard R shall also be used. Note that there is no water bar on top of the retaining
wall shown above.

8.6.Expansion Joints
The expansion bars shall begin at the retaining wall above the raft. However, the water bar must be embedded in the raft.
Before the cast of the raft concrete, retaining wall expansion joint locations shall be marked out by the surveyor and in these
locations Supercast Rearguard S shall be fixed to the raft shutter.

The expansion joint shall continue in to the Ground Floor slab where it shall be treated (details of which shall follow in a
separate submittal). In areas of the ground floor expansion joint no water bar shall be used. The expansion joint at this
location shall only be treated by joint sealer as per waterproofing subcontractor’s proposal (to be submitted soon).
