Note: Quantity of manpower, materials and equipment’s shall be submitted on the daily progress report.
8. PROCEDURE
1. Layout of wall and columns the surveyor shall mark the layout of the element to be cast. Doors or windows in walls shall
be laid out and marked on the concrete slab. Distances from the grid lines shall be checked against the latest approved
shop drawings.
2. Water bars:-In the case of retaining walls and tank walls water bars shall be used at construction joints. Kickers will be
formed monolithically with the slab concrete. Horizontal water bars shall be cleaned and protected to ensure that no
damage occurs to them during the fixing of the steel. As the steel installation proceeds the vertical water bars shall be
welded and secured to the steel bars to prevent movement.
3. MEP Installations: - the starter bars shall be cleaned and if required straightened. As the steel installation progresses
MEP installations work will start. Junction and distribution box fixing, conduiting, pipes, sleeves and openings shall be
fixed and inspected.
4. Reinforcement Inspection:- A Work Inspection Request (WIR) shall be raised, prior to closing of shuttering, to inspect
the completed steel reinforcement, dimensions, cover blocks, column/ wall layout, MEP works, etc. (see checklists)
5. Form Work: - once the reinforcement is checked, approved and released, the closing of formwork shall proceed. Prior
to closing the formwork all debris shall be cleared away from inside the element. The reinforcement cage cover blocks
shall be secured to the steel to ensure that proper cover is maintained. The formwork shall be coated with the approved
form release agent and shall be closed Using clamps and/ or tie rods the column/ wall shutters shall be fixed to ensure

structure special type of tie rods shall be used.
6. Form Work Inspection:- During the formwork inspection the following shall be confirmed: alignment, plumb of the
formwork, the securing and supports, correct covers, cleanliness, etc. (see checklists)
7. Concrete Placement:-Concrete placement shall start only when the required pre-concreting QC checklist is prepared
and signed off in accordance to Inspection & Testing Requirements; and the work is released by the consultant. Prior to
starting the concrete climatic conditions shall be considered.

8. To avoid serration of the aggregates concrete placement shall be so that free fall concrete is less than 1.5m height. To
ensure proper compaction and vibration, concrete shall be placed in layers. Concrete will be properly vibrated to ensure
good compaction and prevent honeycombs in the concrete and will be finished to required level.
9. Once the concrete placement is completed the top level shall be rechecked. A final check of the plumb shall be done; if
any adjustments are required to be made they shall be made at this juncture.
10. Curing:-After de-shuttering the cast element shall be covered by hessian cloth and curing will be carried out as per
specification requirements.
11. Testing:-All necessary tests for concrete prior and after concreting work, i.e. temperature, slump test and test cubes, will
be done as per the specified requirement in Section 3300 and will be submitted to consultant for review and approval.
12. Retaining:-Walls
all tie rod holes shall be filled and the approved waterproofing membrane and protection board shall be applied to the
retaining walls. Back filling shall commence once the next level of the slab has been cast. Back filling shall be done in
200mm layers and compacted. Each layer shall be tested and must be 95% compaction. All debris and rocks shall be
removed from the back fill area.
