2. PURPOSE
The purpose of this Method Statement is to define the procedure for the preparation and construction of Cast in Place
Concrete Works for substructures in accordance with the requirements specified in the relevant specifications,
procedures and drawings, considering safety and quality of the work activities.

6. RESPONSIBILITIES
6.1.Project Manager
1. Ensuring that the project works in his zone are carried out in accordance with Company policies and in accordance
with the requirements of this Quality plan.
2. Ensuring the full compliance of subcontractors with Company Quality policies and with the requirements of this
method statement.
3. To ensure that all the equipment required to execute the works according to the construction programme are
available, in good condition, and provide any additional equipment that might be required.
4. To co-ordinate with the Construction Manager, Project Engineer, Safety Engineer, Foreman and Surveyor for a
safe and proper execution of the works.
5. To guide specific attention to all safety measures in co-ordination with the safety officer/engineer.

6.2.Construction Manager
1. Ensure area is ready and safe to start the works.
2. Set up required equipment and plant through discussion with the Project Manager and Project Engineer/Works
Supervisor.
3. Ensure the works are carried out according to the specification and approved shop drawings.
4. Liaise and co-ordinate with the Project Manager for the agreed sequence of works with respect to the construction
programme.
5. Allocation of required manpower through co-ordination with the Project Manager.
6. Provide the risk assessments for the works in hand.
7. Provide sufficient and safe access for operatives, trucks and pumps.
8. Take precautionary measures with regards to protecting works from hot weather, wind, rain and sun.

6.3. Project Engineer


1. The Engineer will carry out his duties in a manner that will be co-ordinated by the Project Manager on a daily basis,
and will ensure proper distribution of the workforce and equipment at required locations.
2. To be aware of test frequencies related to the formation level.
3. To control disposal of waste excavated material according to the instructions received from the Project Manager.
4. To co-ordinate with the Safety Officer to maintain safe working and proper housekeeping of the site. To comply
with the safety measures and ensure that all Safety Officer Teams are aware of the same to prevent accident and
loss.
5. To inform the QC Inspector of the areas ready for inspection.
6.4.QA/QC Engineer / Inspector
1. Ensuring that Consultant/Client inspection requests are implemented.
2. Compilation of all necessary quality control checklists
3. Assisting Consultants during the Inspections.
4. Coordinating with the third party lab regarding tests and results.
5. The control of work performance by means of checking the work before consultants’ inspection and issuing RFIs &
punch lists as necessary.
6. Completion of documentation to verify the work performed.
7. Controlling all inspection activities on-site in line with ITPs.
8. Ensuring that all test equipment including surveying equipment is calibrated and is suitable for use on-site.

6.5. Surveyor
1. To establish benchmarks from agreed reference points, provide required setting out and level markings and follow
up with regular checks.
2. Co-ordinate with the Project Engineer / Foreman and ensure the approved shop drawings/construction drawings
will be implemented properly.
3. Maintain survey details and reports, periodically check the progressing works and advise the Project Manager of
any deviation from the drawings.

6.6. HSE Engineer/Officer


1. To ensure implementation of all safety measures related to the nature of works being carried out, and in
accordance with the Project Safety Plan.
2. To ensure that all the persons involved in the works are aware of their responsibilities, and that they have enough
understanding of the safety procedures.
3. The Safety Officer in co-ordination with the Project Manager will ensure that all the implemented safety measures
are effective enough to maintain safe working on the site.
4. To maintain continuous inspections of the site activities, advise and train persons on a daily basis to prevent
accidents and personnel injury.
5. To give special concern to housekeeping, and ensure that the site is maintained clean and tidy.
6. To ensure all the relevant safety sign boards for different works are in place.

6.7.Foremen/ Works Supervisor


1. Ensure the works are progressed in the sequence as agreed with the Project Manager.
2. Ensure ready mix concrete ordered from the approved supplier is delivered on time and with sufficient quantity for
continuous casting of the planned pour.
3. Liaise with the Project / Site Manager for the allocation of the work force, ensuring adequate manpower is
available.
4. Liaise with the site manager to ensure all the required plant / materials are available to construct the works.
5. Full time supervision will be required to ensure the works are progressing to the latest approved for construction
drawings and specification.

8. PROCEDURE FOR CAST IN PLACE CONCRETE WORKS FOR SUBSTRUCTURES.


8.1.Concrete Pile Cap
All relevant activities should be carried out in accordance to the approved shop drawings and project specs. Section
033000.
1. Previous work activities completed prior to construct the pile cap.
2. The contractor responsible for any removal of unsuitable materials found on site and replaced with suitable
materials in accordance with the project specification section 2315. Please refer to the submitted method statement
for earthworks part 1 for sub-structures.
3. The Surveyor established the location, axis and elevation of blinding concrete. ITR sign-off and approved by
Contractor and Consultant prior to proceed for the next activities.
4. The termite control for blinding was completed, the ITR sign-off and approved. This section please refers to the
approved method statement and approved material for termite control.
5. Pouring of Concrete Blinding as per approved concrete mix design and casted according to approved drawings and
specifications. Curing for Blinding in accordance to specification section 033000. ITR approved and sign-off by the
Contractor and Consultant.
6. The water proofing and protection board was completed above the blinding and carried out in accordance to
manufacturer recommendation and approved material submittal with method statement. The ITR was sign-off and
approved. Please refer this section to approved material submittal and method statement for waterproofing
materials for pile cap and tie beams.
7. The pile head treatment was completed and carried out in accordance to the approved materials submittal and
manufacturer recommendation. Please refer to approved material submittal and manufacturer recommendation for
pile head treatment.

8.2. Preparation works prior to cast the concrete pile cap.


1. Setting –out - The Surveyor start markings and lay-out the pile cap location. Checked the level, axis/gridlines, and
dimensions and ensure that works are carried out in accordance to approved shop drawings.
2. Reinforcing Steel Bars- The contractor shall provide reinforcing steel with high grade deformed type with minimum
yield strength of 460N/mm² and the testing requirement for each diameter of rebar’s shall include tensile, bend,
rebend and chemical analysis. The Contractor and Consultant are witnessed the testing to ensure that the required
test are carried out as per project specs. Section 03300. The result will be submitted and approved by the
Consultant prior to install the rebar. The Contractor ensures that materials submittal for rebar should be approved
by the Consultant prior to deliver the rebar on site. For every delivery of rebar’s make sure that the mill certificates
were submitted to contractor together with the invoice of the materials. ITR for steel delivery should be submitted
to the consultant at least 24hrs prior the delivery time. The Contractor ensure that all rebar’s used on site are
passed on the required test. The Contractor checked the shop drawings for bar bending schedule and should be
approved by the Consultant prior to start the fabrication on site.
3. Fixing of Steel Rebar’s- Fix the pile cap reinforcement and column starter bars in accordance to the approved
shop drawings and project specification section 033000. Verify the quantity, bar splices, spacing, rebar sizes and
bending. Make sure that all rebar were fixed properly in the proper location. Side form spacers used in pile cap
shall be concrete block spacers and sizes vary as per concrete covering of steel. Tie manually the rebar’s using tie
wires and not allowed for any welding of the reinforcement.
4. Formworks - The contractor can use either vacuum cleaner /manual/ air compressor to clean the area and
removed the waste materials prior to fix the side formworks. Use the Poly release WB mould/shutter release agent
for formworks. Formworks materials are assorted wood and form plywood with min. thickness of 18mm (Phenolic
Board). Formworks materials may be reused during progress of the works provided they are completely cleaned,
reconditioned and capable to withstand pressure of the newly placed concrete considering the quality of concrete
finished works. Install/erect the formworks as per approved shop drawings and project specification section
033000. Before placing of concrete, the contractor ensure that the embedment’s, reinforcements, formworks are
rigid and safe, and other installed materials are based on the project specs, approved shop drawings and the ITR
approved by the consultant.
5. The contractor shall be responsible to conduct the trial mix when the design mix was approved by Consultant. The
Contractor and Consultant shall be present in the trial mix to ensure that mixing is carried out in accordance with
project specs. Section 3300 and approved design mix. The Contractor ensures that the trial mix official reports
were submitted and approved prior to use the concrete on site.

8.3.Pouring of Concrete to Pile Cap


1. The ACES lab. Tech. and Contractor were checked on site slump test, design mix and temperature of the concrete
prior to proceed on site works. The ACES lab. Technicians are responsible for the preparation and providing
materials cube samples with label, and testing as per project specs. Section 033000. Other detail procedures
please refer to the submitted Control Guidelines for ready mix concrete.
2. Pouring/ Depositing of concrete on the pile cap shall be done by Contractor competent Site Personnel and Workers
in accordance to the approved shop drawings and project specifications section 033000. Do not deposit any
concrete in the work which has partly hardened or which has been contaminated with foreign objects. Cast the pile
cap concrete using concrete pump in one operation with their full design depth and dimensions. Do not exceed
1.5m for vertical drop of concrete to prevent segregation of concrete. Apply vibrators systematically, sufficient
duration and intensity to compact the concrete thoroughly. Avoid over vibrate to prevent the concrete segregation.
Maintain / provide one spare vibrators for every three vibrators used for in case of breakdown. Use ready mix
concrete through-out and as per approved supplier and mixed design by the consultant.

8.4.For Hot Weather Concreting


Pouring of concrete shall not be allowed when the ambient air temperature exceeds 38 degrees centigrade. Take
suitable precautions to ensure that the temperature of fresh concrete as placed does not exceed to 32 degrees
centigrade. Transporting, placing and finishing of concrete shall be done as quickly as practicable. Elapsed time
between batching and placing of concrete using OPC shall be 45minutes unless approved by the consultant. The
accepted elapsed time between batching and placing of concrete using combination of GGBS and OPC is 75 minutes.

8.5.Curing
Curing and protection of concrete pile cap shall comply with the guidelines given in ACI 305R-91 and project specs.
Section 033000. Protect and cure concrete in such a manner as to prevent the evaporation of moisture from the
concrete and injury of the surface. Immediately after finishing of concrete surfaces, Curing shall commence in the form
of a complete covering of polyethylene sheets. As soon as the concrete has stiffened sufficiently after not more than
24hrs, the polyethylene sheet shall be removed and the surface covered by absorptive mats of fabric and keeps
continuously wet. Water used to keep the mats moist shall meet the requirements of BS 3148. Any curing compound
materials used for concrete curing is subject for approval of the consultant
8.6.Removal of Formworks
Removal of forms shall comply with the project specs. Section 033000. Striking/Removal of forms shall be carried out
carefully by Contractor competent Carpenters, Helpers and avoid to damage the concrete surface. The concrete shall
be thoroughly wetted as soon as the forms are first loosened and shall kept wet during the removal operation. Potable
water supply with hoses shall be available at each removal location.

8.7.Safety and quality


The Contractor shall provide enough competent workers to complete all these work activities in line with the company
policy in safety and quality. The contractor shall provide necessary equipment’s/machines/tools to execute the above
activities on time. This equipment’s are functional and ready to use on site.

8.8.Concrete Repair Works


After concreting works, for concrete works that is out of tolerances specified in the project specs. Section 3300.3.8 and for
the concrete with major unacceptable quality of works, the Contractor shall responsible to repair the concrete defects
immediately using the approved materials for concrete repairs.

8.9.Waterproofing works and protection board


Waterproofing works shall be started after the concrete works were completed and sufficient to receive the waterproofing
materials. Please refer this section to approved material submittal with method statement and manufacturer
recommendations.

8.10. Backfilling
Compaction works shall be started after the waterproofing works and protection board are ready to receive the backfilling
materials and approved by the Consultant. All backfilling / compaction works are carried out in accordance to project
specs section 02315. Please refer this section to method statement for earthworks part 1 for substructures.

8.11. Concrete Tie Beams / Footings


All relevant activities should be carried out in accordance to the approved shop drawings and project specs. Section
03300.

8.13. Pouring of Concrete to tie beams / footings

foreign objects. Pouring of concrete in the tie beams / footings using concrete pump. Do not exceed 1.5m for
vertical drop of concrete to prevent segregation of concrete. Apply vibrators systematically, sufficient duration and
intensity to compact the concrete thoroughly. Avoid over vibrate to prevent the concrete segregation. Maintain /
provide one spare vibrators for every three vibrators used for in case of breakdown. Use ready mix concrete
through-out and as per approved supplier and mixed design by the Consultant.

8.20. Concrete Ground Floor Slab


Floor Slab
1. The Contractor ensure that all backfilling works and compaction are carried –out in accordance to project
specification section 2315. This section please refers to the submitted method statement for earthworks part 1 for
sub-structures.
2. The Surveyor established the location, axis and elevation of blinding concrete. ITR sign-off and approved by
Contractor and Consultant prior to proceed for the next activities.
3. The termite control for blinding was completed and ITR sign-off and approved. Please refer this section to the
approved method statement and approved material for termite control.
4. Pouring of Concrete Blinding was carried out as per approved concrete mix design and casted according to
approved shop drawings and specifications. Curing for Blinding was completed in accordance to specification
section 3300. ITR approved and sign-off by the Contractor and Consultant.
5. The water proofing and protection board were completed above the blinding and carried out in accordance to
manufacturer recommendation and approved material submittal with method statement. The ITR was sign-off and
approved. Please refer this section to approved material submittal and method statement for waterproofing
materials for concrete blinding under the Ground Floor Slab.

8.21. Preparation works prior to cast the concrete for Ground Floor Slab
1. Setting –out - The Surveyor start markings and lay-out the Ground Floor Slab location. Checked the level,
axis/gridlines, and dimensions and ensure that works were carried out in accordance to approved shop drawings.
2. Reinforcing Steel Bars- The Contractor shall provide reinforcing steel with high grade deformed type with minimum
yield strength of 460N/mm² and the testing requirement for each diameter of rebar’s shall include tensile, bend,
rebend and chemical analysis. The Contractor and Consultant are witnessed the testing to ensure that the required
testing are carried out as per project specs. Section 3300.3.12. The result will be submitted and approved by the
Consultant prior to start the fabrication. The Contractor ensures that materials submittal for rebar should be
approved by the Consultant prior to deliver the rebar on site. For every delivery of rebar’s make sure that the mill
certificates are submitted to contractor together with the invoice of the materials. ITR for steel delivery should be
submitted to the consultant at least 24hrs prior the delivery time. The Contractor ensure that all rebar’s used on site
are passed on the required test. The Contractor checked the shop drawings for bar bending schedule and should
be approved by the Consultant prior to start the fabrication on site.
3. Fixing of Steel Rebar’s- Fix the Slab reinforcement bars in accordance to the approved shop drawings and project
specification section 3300. Verify the quantity, bar splices, spacing, rebar sizes and bending. Make sure that all
rebar were fixed properly in the proper location. Side form spacers used in Ground Floor Slab shall be concrete
block spacers and sizes vary as per concrete covering of steel. Provide enough bottom concrete spacers to
maintain the concrete cover of reinforcing bars. Tie manually the rebar’s using tie wires and not allowed for any
welding of the reinforcement. Provide enough chair bars to hold the top and bottom bars for the Ground Floor Slab.
4. MEP Sleeves & Embedded Items- The Contractor ensure that all MEP sleeves, block-outs and other embedded
items are properly installed in exact location and carried out in accordance with the approved shop drawings and
project specifications section 03300..
5. Formworks - The Contractor can use either vacuum cleaner /manual/ air compressor to clean the area and
removed the waste materials prior to fix the side formworks. Use the Poly release WB mould/shutter release agent
for formworks. Formwork materials are composed of assorted woods and form plywood’s with min. thickness of
18mm (Phenolic Board). Formworks materials may be reused during progress of the works provided they are
completely cleaned, reconditioned and capable to withstand pressure of the newly placed concrete considering the
quality of concrete finished works. Install/erect the formworks as per approved shop drawings and project
specification section 033000.Before placing of concrete, the contractor ensure that the embedment’s,
reinforcements, formworks are rigid and safe, and other installed materials are based on the project specs,
approved shop drawings and the ITR approved by the Consultant.
6. The Contractor shall be responsible to conduct the trial mix when the design mix was approved by Consultant. The
Contractor and Consultant shall be witnessed the trial mix to ensure that mixing are carried out in accordance with
project specs. Section 3300 and approved design mix. The Contractor ensures that trial mix official reports were
submitted and approved prior to use the ready mix concrete on site.
8.22. Pouring of Concrete to Ground Floor Slab
7. The ACES lab. Tech. and Contractor were checked on site the require slump test, design mix and temperature of
the fresh concrete prior to proceed on site. The ACES lab. Technicians are responsible for preparing and providing
materials cube samples with label, and testing as per project specs. Section 033000. Other detail procedures
please refer to the submitted Control Guidelines for ready mix concrete.
8. Pouring/ Depositing of concrete on the Ground Floor Slab shall be done by Contractor competent Site Personnel’s
and Workers in accordance to the approved shop drawings and project specifications section 033000. Do not
deposit any concrete in the work which has partly hardened or which has been contaminated with foreign objects.
Pouring of concrete in Ground Floor Slab using concrete pump. Do not exceed 1.5m for vertical drop of concrete
to prevent secretion of concrete. Apply vibrators systematically, sufficient duration and intensity to compact the
concrete thoroughly. Avoid over vibrate to prevent the concrete segregation. Maintain / provide one spare vibrators
for every three vibrators used for in case of breakdown. Use ready mix concrete through-out and as per approved
supplier and mixed design by the Consultant.
9. For Hot Weather Concreting – pouring of concrete shall not be allowed when the ambient air temperature exceeds
38 degrees centigrade. Take suitable precautions to ensure that the temp. Of fresh concrete as placed does not
exceed to 32 degrees centigrade. Transporting, placing and finishing of concrete shall be done as quickly as
practicable. Elapsed time between batching and placing of concrete using OPC shall be 45minutes unless
approved by the consultant. The accepted elapsed time between batching and placing of concrete using
combination of GGBS and OPC is 75 minutes.
10. The expansion joints indicated in the drawings (if any) shall comply in accordance to the project specs. Section
3300.2.9/33002.9.5. The contractor should submit the shop drawings indicating the installation details, types of
materials to be used and exact location of construction joints prior to start the work activities.
11. Curing - Curing and protection of concrete for Ground Floor Slab shall comply with the guidelines given in ACI
305R-91 and project specs. Section 033000. Protect and cure concrete in such a manner as to prevent the
evaporation of moisture from the concrete and injury of the surface. Immediately after finishing of concrete
surfaces, curing shall commence in the form of a complete covering of polyethylene sheets. As soon as the
concrete has stiffened sufficiently after not more than 24hrs, the polyethylene sheet shall be removed and the
surface covered by absorptive mats of fabric and keeps continuously wet. Water used to keep the mats moist shall
meet the requirements of BS 3148. Any curing compound materials used for concrete curing is subject for approval
of the consultant.
12. Removal of Formworks - Removal of forms shall comply with the project specs. Section 03300. Striking/Removal of
forms shall be carried out carefully by Contractor competent Carpenters, Helpers and avoid to damage the
concrete surface. The concrete shall be thoroughly wetted as soon as the forms are first loosened and shall kept
wet during the removal operation. Potable water supply with hoses shall be available at each removal location.
13. The Contractor shall provide enough competent workers to complete all these work activities in line with the
company policy in safety and quality. The contractor shall provide necessary equipment’s/machines/tools to
execute the above activities on time. This equipment’s are functional and ready to use on site.
14. Concrete Repair Works - After concreting works (fin. Products), for concrete works that is out of tolerances
specified in the project specs. Section 03300 and for the concrete with major unacceptable quality of works, the
Contractor shall responsible to repair the concrete defects immediately using the approved materials for concrete
repairs.
15. Note: Separate method statement for earth works (backfilling works including compaction works). Please refer to
