RAS AL HAMRA DEVELOPMENT PROJECT (RAHDP) Contract No.: NA
1. INTRODUCTION
Horizon Industrial Development Co. (HIDC) is hereby submitting the design basis
report with Rapidwall load-bearing panels for the client’s Ras Al Hamra Development
Project at Ras Al Hamra location.
The proposed development project is a G+2 structure and the design life expected is 50
years. There are total 80 buildings to be executed.
The proposed Ras Al Hamra Development Project has 5 different buildings with
different Sizes and Specifications.
The Following are the different types of buildings to be designed as per the Scope
Town house type TH3 (3BR) – 3 Bedroom – 14 units
Town house type TH3 (4BR) – 4 Bedroom – 14 units
Town house type TH4 (3BR) – 3 Bedroom – 14 units
Terrace house type TR (3BR) – 3 Bedroom – 20 units
Terrace house type TR (4BR) – 4 Bedroom – 18 units
Sub-contractor : Shall mean the Person, Firm, or entity to whom Order is issued
by CONTRACTOR to provide SUPPLIES and SERVICES,
and shall include its representatives, successors, assignees and
employees
Dead load : Permanent load due to material weights of all load bearing and
non-load bearing elements including walls, floors, roofs, fixed
partitions, finishes and services, equipment and all other
permanent construction
Live Load : Load assumed to be produced by the intended occupancy or
use, including weight of movable partitions, distributed,
concentrated, impact, inertia loads, but excluding
environmental loads such as Wind load, Snow load, Sand
load, Rain load, Earthquake load or Dead load.
Wind Load : Load due to the effect of wind pressure or suction on building.
structure and equipment.
Basic Wind Speed : The 3 second gust speed at 10 meter (33 feet) above ground
as per BS 6399 Part 2
Seismic Load : The load generated by horizontal movement of mass of
building, tall structure and heavy equipment due to the effect
of earthquake induced ground motion.
BS 6399-2:1997 Loadings for Buildings- Code of practice for imposed roof loads
CIRIA Report no 146 Specification for Swimming pools- Design & Construction
In case of conflict or differences in requirements of the codes & standards, the most
stringent of such codes & standards as defined by COMPANY shall apply.

SI units will be used in describing all parameters of structure and their details, forces,
soil pressures as follows:
The topography of the Site will be assessed from the area contour maps on the basis of
a topographical survey conducted for the plot/route and its adjoining areas.
5. LOADING DATA
The loads, which will be taken into account in the design of reinforced concrete and
structural steel works, are listed below:
a) Dead Loads
b) Live Loads
c) Wind Loads
d) Seismic Loads
e) Impact Loads (if any)
RAS AL HAMRA DEVELOPMENT PROJECT (RAHDP) Contract No.: NA
Dead loads will be estimated for the purpose of design using the actual weights of
material of construction and finishes on the basis of unit weights.
Following loads will form the parts of the dead load:
a) All structural materials, floors, stairs and various permanent elements forming
part of the structure/ building
b) Weight of soil above foundations
The self‐weight of structural elements will be calculated based on the member geometry
and material densities.
1. Floor Screed of 20 kN/m2.
2. Floor finishes 1.75 kN/m2.
3. Waterproofing of 0.25 kN/m2 for Roof.
4. Ceiling & Services 0.25 kN/m2
RAS AL HAMRA DEVELOPMENT PROJECT (RAHDP) Contract No.: NA
The Live Loads on floors will be the maximum loads likely to be produced by the
intended use or occupancy of buildings and other structures but will in no case be less
than the minimum uniformly distributed static loads (UDL) per square meter of plan
area specified in Table 5.2.1 below. Live Load reduction shall be applied in accordance
with BS 6399 Part 1 as applicable. Wherever concentrated loads are specified, they will
be considered to produce the worst effect.
1 Bath 2.00
2 Bed 2.00
3 Dinning 2.00
4 Electrical 2.00
5 Entrance Hall 3.00
6 Kitchen 5.00
7 Staircase 3.00
8 Service Duct 2.00
9 Parking 2.50
The Live Loads on roof (accessible & non-accessible) will be in no case less than the
minimum uniformly distributed static loads (UDL) measured per square meter of plan
area or the point load wherever specified, as given in Table 5.2.2 below.
RAS AL HAMRA DEVELOPMENT PROJECT (RAHDP) Contract No.: NA
The wind loads for each building shall be calculated in accordance with BS 6399 Part 2. Basic
Mean Hourly Wind Speed, V10 (m/s), at height of 10m, which shall be accounted for in the
design.
The design wind speed at any height z above the ground, Vz (m/s), is derived from the formula
below:
Vz=F*V10*(z/10)1/y*S3(m/s)
Where, Vz = The Design Wind Speed at height z.
V10 = the Basic Mean Hourly Wind Speed
F = Gust Duration Factor (For general engineering calculation, Gust Duration Factor
corresponding to 3 sec gust may be considered. For towers, stacks and in general, smaller
protruding parts (e.g. ladders, cantilevers etc.) for which a 3-second gust shall be used in the
design.

Although 3-second gust speeds, are sometimes quoted and certainly of great importance
when dealing with wind forces on structures, the above formula takes this into account.
The values of S3 are shown in the table above Values of Gust Duration Factor and shall
be used for the various category of structure as described in the table below Values for
S3 for Wind Loading.
