1.0 INTRODUCTION;
Tap-changer overhaul increases transformer life, reliability, and lower overall maintenance and
operating cost. The contact life and the frequency of operations or the time in service determine
the interval between overhauls. A counter records the number of operations run by the on-load
tap-changer. The registered number of operations should be noted at every inspection and
overhaul. The on-load tap-changer normally overhauled regularly at intervals of 1/5 of the
estimated contact life. The relevant information as stated on the rating plate
Experts from ABB carried out the tape changer overhaul of T1 and T2 at Tagamenda and some
experts from TANESCO were attached to ensure that everything was conducted as required.

After overhaul all tests was performed including operational test, Turns ratio test and transformer
oil tests and were observed to be Ok and hence the transformers were energized to normal
operation.
