Cultural and International Business Behavior

According to Deloitte, “CEOs and HR leaders now recognize that culture drives

people’s behavior, innovation, and customer service.” Culture is what a person is, where they

are from, how they react and behave, factors that all affect a company.

Practical Ideas for American Business Executives Traveling Abroad

As many as 60 million Americans travel abroad each year, having opportunities to

improve the negative impression that we have got at the moment. Studies show that ratings

for travels within America are declining all over the world.

A way of improving America’s image is by implementing some new suggestions to

the next time traveling abroad, such as a smile, showing pride, but the respect of others. Being

proud of your culture and your ways is not wrong, but thinking that is the only way is by

avoiding boasting about your country, you portray a better image.

In summary, being the best version of yourself means much more than just your

education, but most of the time, when being abroad, it can portray your country as a whole.

The most important thing when trying to better an impression is by listening as much

as you talk. Showing interest can better anyone’s impression about someone by slowing

down and taking time to talk about how great your country is, and appreciating the foreign

culture is vital, especially when talking about executives.

Practical Advice for Americans Traveling Abroad

When trying to better a personal image, simple things as smiling, listening, humility,

appreciating the local culture, being patient will help. Overall, by being a better person, the

view someone has of your country can be severely changed, either for better or worse. Being

kind is the best policy, after all.

Personally, the most challenging part of being foreign is becoming a student again.

Being abroad involves the introduction of many new things. Being able to learn while not

coming across as arrogant is a challenge.

Global Village

The most impressive thing overall is that on the “global village,” out of 100 people,

only 30 are the ones with enough to eat, while the majority are from Asia, and the minority,

with only 5, being from the United States. Moreover, the most impressive thing is that we

are “one person traveling that world.”

Adaptation to the Foreign Assignment Cycle

The adaptation process starts in the home country, with the expectations and training

followed by arriving in a foreign country. Once there, the arrival and adaptation to the cultural

shock are going to be experienced. “Cultural shock” is defined by the Cambridge Dictionary

as the “feeling of confusion felt by someone visiting a country or a place that they do not

know.” Once the sock is passed, the settlement is met. Being settle comes and goes quickly.

Once they return to the home country, bring with it the new “shock.” Also defined as a

“roller-coaster,” the FAC, is hard to experience, but necessary at the same time.

In personal experiences, traveling to a foreign place comes with a vast majority of

benefits, such as the opportunity of bettering the image of your home country. On the other

hand, the adaptation process can be harsh at times. Being new comes with challenges, and

when most of them are figured out, and it starts to feel like home, you return to your real

home.

Being able to get information about the process and what to expect is necessary for

both personal and executive travels. Training your peers and employees is vital when it comes

to a journey. Various cultures clash, and being able to get past that and work without troubles

is vital.

In conclusion, being prepared is crucial. The traveling of people involves more than

packing and hopping into a plane, but it should also involve the preparation regarding a

cultural change. Culture varies around the world, and those changes are what make us unique.

Learning to appreciate and value those changes is what makes us human.
